Well, someone might need to help me here, but - I believe I see a big old boiler in the background, with a steam pipe going up. It comes down to this engine, into the box on top which houses a cylinder with a piston. There's some valving that regulates the steam going in. That drives the piston rod going to the spindle at the base (the rotating part). There's the painted flywheel at one end, and the small drive wheel at the other. At your farm or your shop, you would put a belt on that, and you could drive all sorts of machinery. That's 4 hp and a LOT of torque 😊

Thumbs up for staying period correct with the LT block. Word of advice is throw out the chrome valve covers. Yes they look cool but chrome holds in heat. The goal is to remove heat from the oil to cool the valve train. You’ll never see NASCAR running chrome valve covers. Go with aluminum covers if you want to maintain the looks.

Easy part of the job is taking the case & trans out. You’ll invent new cuss words lifting that transfer case up into place if you don’t have 3 men & a boy to help lift it.
