Puffing Billy Railway (4K)
One of Australia's finest heritage railways, the Puffing Billy Railway is a 2'6" narrow gauge railway that runs from Belgrave to Gembrook at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne, Victoria. I traveled to the railway on two seperate days and caught a range of trains operating. Victorian Railways NA class no.12A ran a double header to Menzies Creek with regauged South African Garratt NG129 and then the two locomotives ran seperate trips throughout the day. On the second day, NA class no.7A was running and had been pushed into service early following an overhaul, hence the locomotive's unpainted state.

    now we need them all over the country

    • @danieleyre8913
      @danieleyre8913 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes nothing all over the country needs more than locomotives that can only run on the main trunk line between longburn and te rapa. All that extra work on the motors of the diesel-electric locomotives and more fuel expended dragging more dead weight.

      That’s because they’re about 40-45 years old and the concrete is stained and depleted. They were light grey and stuck out when they were newer.

  • @henkmagnetic3103
    @henkmagnetic3103 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Absolutely brilliant. No idea this line was electrified. As I was viewing this video, a shiver went through me, about electric locomotion disappearing because of the cyclic nature of what government is in power each three years. The destruction of a previous government's infrastructure plans by the next government is incredulous, for whatever reason and is keeping us in the previous millennium. Also, I'm thinking of the Cook Strait ferries. If it has been signed off, review, amend but do not cancel. What project does not run over budget and schedule. I'm looking forward to more 2nd hand ferry breakdowns and possibly another propeller heading for the seabed.

    • @danieleyre8913
      @danieleyre8913 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m assuming that “incredulous” was a spell checker fail and you meant to type “incredible”. This is the longest electrification in the country and on most of the North Island main trunk, so I don’t mean to be rude but if you weren’t aware that it is electrified and has been for almost 40 years: You can’t know much about railways. Neither the national party nor Labour have been pro-railways since the 1960s and both are guilty for the degrading of the infrastructure and services. And neither are very pro railways now. The Green Party like to think that they are but they have a lot of not-researched dingbat ideas that would probably do more harm to Kiwirail and the remnants of the infrastructure than aid it. I hate to say it but the most pro-railways party is dodgy old NZ first.

      @@danieleyre8913 Thank you for your informative comments. I've got to watch my use of the big words as they stand out like a NZ native tree in the Sahara Desert, I'll go with incredible. Correct, my knowledge of New Zealand's railway is not fantastic but for some reason I've always been interested. I can remember a family outing when I was a child, from the former Auckland Railway Station to Helensville, and back. You are a very knowledgeable person and again I'll express my appreciation for your comments. It is about NZ railways and also the history, as you have written. We see with our eyes but listening to a person who knows what is not seen adds another dimension to the story. My memory/storage is a floppy disk, so it is taking time to remember but I think it is, and nearly a past tense, a 25 kV line from somewhere south of Auckland to somewhere north of Wellington. I do like your comment on NZ First but here I show myself lacking again as I did not know of their stance about the railways; maybe regarding to the Northland region. The landscape in the TH-cam videos I have seen of New Zealand railways are stunning. As I live in Christchurch, I am looking forward to the new locomotives for the South Island. Where I worked for 30 years backed on to the Middleton yards. As I worked half the time evenings, I would try to time a break to coincide with the TranzAlpine heading back into Christchurch. If any passengers/tourists were looking from the right-hand side, I'd give them a wave.
