Hello,
My name is David and I launched this TH-cam Channel in 2023. I took an early retirement at the end of 2020 and begin getting serious about my woodworking and restorations. In the beginning, most of my work had been for personal use, family and friends. I started taking commissions in late 2021 and started as an actual business in 2023. This is my passion and I'm very lucky that I have the support to spend the time I do in the shop. Hopefully this channel and my videos will keep you entertained and I would be grateful if you subscribe and join me on this journey.

Proto Adjustable Wrench Restoration
I little bit of goofiness in this one! Also an update on the drill press restoration. This is an awesome wrench I found buried in a booth at an antique store, made an offer and they took it. Will proudly hang on my tool wall for sure. Hope you enjoy!

I got this at an estate sale was just going to set it up and use it. Then I decided to take it all apart because the quill had no tension and would not auto return. I still haven't figured that out completely, but I will. This is part 2, the rest of the restoration or cleanup, reassembly and testing. How do you like my AI thumbnail? Just playing around and trying to learn some new stuff! This is part one of my drill press restoration. I didn't mean to go as deep into this as I did. Got this at an estate sale was just going to set it up and use it. Then I decided to take it all apart because the quill had no tension and would not auto return. I still haven't figured that out completely, but ...
Watch what I do to my shop!

I've had this idea for a few years and have been terrible about putting things on the wall for display in my shop. Just had these old blank walls forever and got tired of it. I also have some ideas for storage for the tools I use on a regular basis, down the road. I used 3/8" barn wood and nailed it to the wall with 1-1/4" 16ga braid nails. I hit the studs on 90% of the boards so these stuff is...
A Classic Blackhawk Tool Chest Resto
มุมมอง 1.7Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome back for another tool chest cleanup/restoration. I picked this Blackhawk box up at auction for only $14. I was prepared to pay a lot more, luckily the other buyers just didn't show up! I have an ever growing collection of Blackhawk Tools and I thought this would be a great place to keep some. Enjoy the video, thank you for coming. #toolbox #toolboxrestoration #blackhawktool #craftsmanto...
Garden Bench Refresh. Gave me more trouble than expected!
มุมมอง 7022 หลายเดือนก่อน
This week's project is an old garden bench. A neighbor asked if I would refresh this bench for her. It's old and needed a lot! All of the wood was rotten and needed replacing. The end brackets are cast iron and not cast aluminum like the newer versions. It was her mothers and she has made a memory garden in her yard and it was fitting to freshen up the bench and place it in the garden. She pick...
Craftsman Tool Chest Full Restoration
มุมมอง 45K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is another project that I had to stop in the middle and put off for a few months due to some hand surgery. I found this box at an online estate sale auction, it came packed full of the 60’s and 70’s vintage Craftsman Tools. I really wanted to save the paint, but drawers were pretty rough and I knew if I had to repaint them, the box needed it as well. It is a well made, really nice box now ...
Snap-On Tool Kit 9/32" Show and Tell
มุมมอง 5992 หลายเดือนก่อน
I found this in a lot with other tools last year at an estate sale auction. I'm not a collector of Snap-On tools, so I just put it off to the side for a long time. Cleaning some stuff up the other day I ran across it and did some digging. This is a really cool 9/32" drive kit from the 1930's and I believe the M70 flat ratchet makes it more rare, but don't really know. Not restoring or do anythi...
Workbench Refresh - How to maintain

A short video on cleaning up and maintaining my wood worker’s bench. In the past I’ve used BRIWAX as a finish, but it just doesn’t last long. So I thought I would try a new finish, a hard oil wax. Hope you enjoy the video. Disclaimer: By clicking on this video, you acknowledge you have read and understand the following statements. This video is intended for entertainment purposes only. Herbrand Ratchet Restoration. Saved from a Rust Bucket!
มุมมอง 6813 หลายเดือนก่อน
I found these two Herbrand ratchets a few weeks back at an estate sale. Both are from the same era, but not exactly alike. I’m guessing 40’s to mid-50’s? One looked pretty good, the other not so much. I did the best I could to clean them up and give them a shine. Both are in perfect working order now. Had a little fun with the paint. I really enjoy bringing these vintage tools back to life. Not...
Revival of an Eagle Gas Can
มุมมอง 4263 หลายเดือนก่อน
Thanks for watching! I bought 4 gas cans at an estate sale as a lot for $4.50. The two Eagles in the video and 2 more a little newer, but still vintage, that are 2-gallon cans. I just wiped them down and put them on FB Marketplace. I don’t know the age of these, but guessing at least 50 years old. Had some fun cleaning them up. I have more Petroliana items to clean up for display and will event...
Unnecessary and Over Restored!
มุมมอง 6713 หลายเดือนก่อน
Bought this Craftsman parallel wood clamp a few weeks back at auction for $8. It was nasty and so I thought I would clean them up and show you how nice they could look. It took me a while to get them back together, these right hand/left hand double screws took a minute to figure out. You have to get them almost exactly even in order for the clamp to work properly, but I got it. The process I fo...
A Simple - Simplex Vise Restoration
มุมมอง 5924 หลายเดือนก่อน
Thanks for watching! This is a cool old Simplex vise. Key feature for them on this model is the steel slide. Since it is steel, I thought I would spend a little extra time to sand and polish it up. Pretty happy with the result. Pretty straight forward restoration and a nice example of the Simplex vise. I found a catalog page from 1936 showing the 41P model on the Internet Archive website. Shutter Restoration
มุมมอง 4374 หลายเดือนก่อน
Thanks for watching! These shutters were probably made somewhere between 1926 and 1928. They are constructed of Douglas Fir and are very well made. They were in need of some wood rot repair and definitely a paint job. In addition, many of the mortise and tenon joints had become loose and the shutters would not hang straight on the house any longer. They were repainted about 10 years ago and the...
Proto Tool Chest - Restore or Not?
มุมมอง 10K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
Earlier in the Spring I found two Proto rolling tool chests at an estate sale auction. They were dirty and difficult to get to, but I won them along with the tools that came in them. These are similar to Craftsman, but much heavier duty. IDK maybe it’s just me but the drawers seemed to be heavier, the large drawers have two slides versus one on the Craftsman, the handles are certainly nicer and...

Turned out great! I need to find some of that wrench spray!
LOL. Thanks for watching and the kind comment
Terrific.I have the same rollaway purchased in 1983ish. Doing garage makeover the toolbox restoration is on the list.
Great to hear, you've got a real classic there! Good luck with the garage makeover and the tool chest restoration. Thanks for watching!
Awesomeness
Thanks!
I just bought this toolbox from a lady. I wasn't sure what it was until now. I have the top chest and bottom. It's extremely dirty, and I am currently taking it apart and cleaning it to restore this beautiful toolbox.
That's great! Very cool to find the matching set together. Good luck with the cleanup and enjoy it!
That is a really cool wrench. It did turn out nice. Do you think that spray works on everything? If so, I will have to find some 😅. Glad you got the spring set up on your drill press.
Thanks Ryan, boy don't I wish on the spray. I'm impressed with the community here that all the comments left that alone or were very clean! 😁😂🤣 Thanks for watching brother!
Holy smokes Dave! You have amassed quite the collection of awesomeness in your workshop over the years! You panned around the shop and my eyes kept spotting new things! That shop is certainly something to be proud of. What make is that wooden tool chest - Gerstner? Oh, and love the Blackhawk displays! "Somehow it's still level"... lol!
Thanks Matt, I have so much stuff to put up on these walls, but committed to be patient (i have to much to do!), but slowly will be adding some restored tools as we go. Not sure on the chest, I bought that quite a few years ago and it was a mess, did a total resto on it including veneer repairs and reflocked everything, B4 TH-cam.... I have moved the Blackhawk upstairs and one of these days I'll get around to a good shop tour. Thanks for being here.
Thank you for your content! Great job on that restore and you motivated me to restore one as well!
Hi Doug, thanks for checking out the video, I'm glad I inspired you to restore one! Good luck on it.
That wrench looks fantastic David. It's a perfect job. thanks for the shout out and I will be getting some of those plastic bag. Great video David.
Thanks Dale. Here's a tip. Hide the bags from the wife, mine already grabbed some and claimed them for herself! 🤣🤣🤣
@@westhighlandsshop Thanks for the tip Dave. I can see that could be a problem.
Great restore Dave! That's a deep rabbit hole that keeps snagging everyone - how far do I take it?! You are right too - sanding, polishing etc. & getting the hands dirty is therapeutic!
Thanks for stopping by and for the kind comment, it can be a slippery slope but it can definitely be therapeutic!
Love your comment about going further than you had intended. As you also stated, it’s therapeutic. That’s why we do what we do. Another great video. Thanks! (Thanks for the drill press update, as well).
Thanks Douglas, and most everything in the shop at this point in my life is therapeutic! If I don’t enjoy it, I just simply don’t do it! Thanks for watching.
That turned out wonderfully. I have some large pipe wrenches, but I don’t think I have anything that size in an adjustable wrench. Thank you so much for sharing and hope you have a great week.
Its the biggest one I have fore sure! Now on to collect a full set of the big boys! Thanks for watching.
That's called a "Freddie" wrench. One summer I was working mostly steel stud and drywall and there was an old laborer/cleanup guy named Freddie. One of the other guys told me years earlier Freddie had worked at Ford on an assembly line and the foreman was always pushing these guys, Freddie snapped and bashed him in the head with a huge wrench almost killing him. I guess the other guys hated the foreman too so they would drop off a few bucks and food for Freddie until he could get a new job. Today I think Freddie might do time for something like that.
I can't imagine being wacked in the head with this thing and walking away! Thanks for watching and sharing.
David, wrench came out looking nice! I have his brother Proto 718
That's cool! George @uwannawatch has the third brother the 720 so between us we have a set of the big ones! Thanks for watching Rodney.
Beautiful bench. The coating does look good. Thanks for sharing your expertise
Thanks Michael! It's been on about 3 months now and so far, so good. It's not going to be a long term finish but it's holding up okay at this point. Thanks for watching.
Wow! Looks great Dave! Nicely done sir
Thanks Ivan! It was a fun little project for sure.
Awesome job David!
Appreciate you stopping by the channel and dropping a kind comment!
Too nice now to use on an old greasy piece of equipment, you might scratch it! It's a wall hanging now, I suspect. 😁
Definitely a wall hanger. Not sure I even want to work on anything at this point in my life that would require the beast! Thanks Dave.
Super jealous that's the one I'm missing. Came out fantastic!
Thanks George, and brother we will find yours one day!
Make a display case and hang it on a wall.
Thanks! It's actually on the wall already, but the display case is a great idea too! Thanks for watching
Great restoration really appreciate getting to watch
Thank you Michael, glad you stopped by and enjoyed the video!
The wrench turned out great! Almost too nice to use. I have one question. My wife wants to know of your magic spray only works on metal. 😄
Thanks Kevin, appreciate you watching, and tell the wife sorry...........🤣🤣
Excellent work! That was a hefty piece of equipment to wield around on the sander and buffer. Nicely done! 😀👍
Thank you and you are correct. 10 lbs doesn't sound heavy but try t hold it up, keep turning and moving, sure seems a lot heavier! 😂 One of the reasons I ended up hand finishing a lot of it. Thanks for watching.
thanks for the drill press update . the wrench came out great . Thanks David
Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Was very relieved the drill spring was so easy!
That thing is beautiful David. Super nice job! I wish I had your patience - your work is always inspirational.
Thanks Bill, appreciate you being here. Funny you say that about my patience, I try and edit out all of my non-patience moments.😁
You've got that absolute monster looking great! Without question you are definitely ready to change the spark plugs on a US Navy destroyer with that thing!
Thanks! As I was cleaning it up, I wondered what someone would use such a large adjustable for....Well now I know, plug wrench for a destroyer! 😁😂😎 Thanks for watching.
Incredible. Great video as usual.
Instructions? Real Men don't read those😅 fantastic job on the proto...igoing to dig thru that box ya sent for my bottle of .magic spray...I have always wanted a bigger tool 😳😅😳😅😳 kidding aside...thank ya for your kindness your awesome Brother Dave!!
Thank you Vic! Sorry, but the spray was a one off 😎😆 Glad you came along and you are most welcome my friend.
Fantastic job om the proto wrench i have a bunch of wrenches to do the same too right now i am working on a 60s craftsman box i am restoring at the moment,
Awesome! Good luck on yours and appreciate you taking the time to stop by the channel!
That big wrench was a big job! You shoulda polished her up when she was small and then hit her with the grow spray!
I was waiting on that comment! 😁🤣 Thanks for watching Magdad!
That dale is one F@RT smeller, I MEAN, Smart feller!!!!!!
Agreed! Thanks for watching Andy
Nice cleanup, looks real nice! 👍
Thanks Frank, I was pretty happy with the outcome. Appreciate you being here.
Nice job on the wrench - probably one of the largest I have seen.
Thank you very much. I have seen a 20", don't own one, but I will next time I see it. This was the first 24" I had seen out in the wild!
Wonderful David.
Thank you Tammy, appreciate you stopping by!
The quality of your work is incredible
Wow Mike, what a kind comment, thank you! Appreciate you stopping by the channel.
Great job on the wrench, it looks fantastic! I’m a fan of the older S-K tools but I definitely like Proto as well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those either. Glad you got the drill press squared away, that thing is beautiful!
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it, that drill press is my new favorite toy.
LOVE this one, David. I had the same model, inherited by me from my great uncle who died in 1983 and it never failed me. My great uncle is who taught me about tools and I'd been using that drill press since I was about 7 years old. Finally gave it to my oldest son who has room for it and it serves him well. Recently I found a bench-top drill press on Craigslist for $25, so I purchased and restored (refreshed?) it, as you did with your floor-model. Sometimes you just need a drill press and, like you, it was a blast to take something and make it better and put it into service. It does everything I need it to do at this stage of my life. Very happy you kept this one for yourself. And, please, post a video of how you fixed the spring. I think we'd like to see that. Isn't the TH-cam community great, how we can help each other out like that?
Hi Douglas, and yes, the community is the best! I think that is so cool you've passed your 150 on and now it's in it's 3 generation. That's the way its supposed to happen! Thanks for watching and sharing. Oh, check out Friday's video this week for the spring update (at the end).
I love Craftsman classic equipment. The window cleaner done a great job and left a nice finish. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience.
Thanks for watching! Those old Craftsman tools are great!
Great restoration and clean up on a classic drill press. Thanks for sharing your expertise. Now on to part 2
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful restoration! I can't believe how nice of condition that table was. Usually those tables are filled with old drill holes. Great, great job and very entertaining.
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the table as well. I don't think this one had much use. The original belt was still on it and had no wear on it either.
Beautiful work! I wish I could find one exactly like that to restore. That is the year I was born! 1971
Thank you very much. They are still out there you will run across on some day! Thanks for watching.
Very nice. I am a fan of Barnwood. Thanks so much for sharing and have a good one.
Thanks for watching! Gives the shop a whole different feel for sure!
i have that same tool box. Always called it the "shoebox" chest. One of the only things I inherited from my dad!! GREAT restoration. Plan on doing that to mine now. What color paint did you end up using for the drawers and box? Would really like to get it back to original condition someday.
Thanks for watching and really cool you have your Dad's old box. I used Rustoleum paints, hammered gray on the box and regal red on the drawers. Comes out pretty close to the original.
Turned out great! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the kind words, I'm happy with how it came out!
David, great job with this 150. Parts 1 and 2 were great videos.
Thanks! I really enjoyed doing this one, was a fun project.
Hello David, that 150 came out great. I enjoyed your video and I am glad you got the feed return spring tension sorted out. Keep up the great work.
Thanks to you, LOL. I appreciate you watching and the positive comments.
Another Great Job
Thank you, I appreciate you watching!
This Is A Great Job
Thanks for the comment and watching the channel!
Looks fantastic. As I was watching the assembly I thought about my visit to my storage last week. I had the impression that my shop tools are aging due to the humidity. None of them are restored and I try to keep them washed in oil. From where I'm sitting, your work really stands out as perfect. tHanks for the video
Thanks for the awesome comment. I’m lucky that my shop is climate controlled and don’t have to worry to much an about humidity rust.
UPDATE! THE SPRING IS FIXED! Thanks to several that referred me over to @jeffsshop He posted a video explaining how to tension the spring on the same series drill press. So easy! check his channel out, he has some awesome presses and videos!
It looks great David! All your hard work paid off! I hope you figure out that return spring!
Thanks Magdad. The spring is fixed, once I saw how to do it, took 2 minutes. Learned it from @jeffsshop
