Bass fishing with lures! Choosing the right lure for rough and calmer conditions!
I this video I was fishing in Portugal on a 10 day summer holiday and had a mixture of calmer conditions and some very rough summer seas.
I had good success in the small surf with the 15g mini candle and 6cm 25g Shad compact mini. When it got rough the heavier lure like the Samson Shads and Enticer minnow were the best choice.

I dropped lure fishing in Portugal, switched some years ago to fishing with Surf casting Rods, sinker/buldo and the classic red gills in 11cm. For some weeks ago I am totally into shore slow jigging. But I am realy surprised you have such good results on lures. I hated the fact that I lost every fishing at least one of them. Also I am totally surprised you catch on those fat/bulky lures. For me they never worked, just slim ones . But well its good to see that it works :) keep up the good work man
Exillerating, extreme fishing grant as per 👌🏻👌🏻 , fishing on unsteady / uneven ground aint my cup of tea but you deserve every silver you have landed 👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks, looking forward to getting out again when I can get over 🤙
I love these videos, Grant! So much knowledge! I don't know if you guys were in Hungary for the trade fair recently? I have spoken a few times with our local shop Mister Fish here in Malta to check out and start stocking your lures and lines so thought maybe Dan would have found you at the fair. Tight lines brother!
unfortunately I wasnt! Yes tell them to contact me directly and we canwork something out! Soon we will have Samsonfishing Europe meaning no import duties.
@@lurefishingfromtheshore-gr8270 will do! I really want to get my hands on the new line when it is time to change on the Saragosa.
Best bass fishing channel on TH-cam 👍 Much respect from a fellow Fisher man from Ireland 🇮🇪 👏 🙌 👍
Wow, thanks, really appreciate that, hope to get away a few times this winter to bass fish im really missing it!
@lurefishingfromtheshore-gr8270 looking forward to seeing your Pollock adventure in Ireland video! Love the Pollock fishing here at home! Nothing like fighting some fiesty fish watching the sunrise 🌅
@@cwera8866 yes agree with that. I did all my bass fishing in Portugal and would love to have Pollock hitting the lure from time to time!
@lurefishingfromtheshore-gr8270 as long as your fishing 🎣 😉 I love the Pollock bashing if your ever back in Ireland would be cool to do a session with ya im on the east coast. I'll be ordering some winter lures from you off the website. Bigger the Swell the bigger the Lures!! My kinda fishing 🎣
@@cwera8866 Hopefully in a couple of month we will have many of the products in Europe at a european website avoiding import taxes in Europe!! Yes would be great to get over to Ireland again, I love it there
What size penn reel is that ?
its a 3500 slammer
Thanks for that great video!
Glad you you enjoyed it!
Hello, I have been following you for a while, but I have not seen anything new from you.
this was fishing in Portugal, I travel also to other countries to fish. Buit its always lure fishing and testing new equipment
What made you switch to a Penn reel?
Ive had so many reels siezing up from salt water from swimming to rocks etc, that I dont need to worry about that. Mind you that reel sounded like I needed an oil.
@@lurefishingfromtheshore-gr8270 It's the line roller. Not the bearing itself, but the other components salting up. Worth taking it apart and cleaning every once in a while otherwise you'll eventually need to buy the replacement kit. It's very easy. I've had more expensive reels that have been allergic to water. The Penns are good value and bulletproof.
You’ve sure wetted my appetite again , must book for the canaries 😂
Good luck!! Nothing like a winter fishing trip
Hello! In mediterranean we use jigs for amberjacks, how come you have not used any jigs? Thank you!
I was mainly fishing marks not so deep and I also enjoy more fishing topwater. I have caught quite a few amber jack off the top, an amazing fight similar to the Kingfish
Make sure to blur the marks We might all fly to Portugal, and find them 😂🤦🏻♂️
yes I try to keep the spots not too obvious
The Real Deal..............
I love your content , I live in Portugal close to the ocean and I would definitely love to try this fishing style , do you have any advice as a beginner?
YEs you should start in swells less than 1 meter for safety to get used to the effects of the waves and buiöld up your experience . I would recommend long casting lures and long rods which you can find at samsonfishing. In around 2 months there will also be a European outlet avoiding import fees
Great catch. Comp
Cheers mate
Welcome in moroccan sea ,her Big seabass🎉
Witch country is this?:0000
Fantastic videos look forward to more of the same, which of the Samson rods are you using here.
Great video, which island was that ? Assumed it was in the Azores ?
What are you doing with the big Bass’s that you cought in Portugal?
the 18lber and next double both went back. But I have no issue with keeping bass to eat when I want one. I was travelling back that day. Most trips around the world I keep what I need to eat fish every day and release the other 90%
@@lurefishingfromtheshore-gr8270 good. Thank you for your attention 🙏🏼😎
Hello! I’m Portuguese and I love saltwater fishing, spinning or surfcasting. I usually fish in Torreira, Furadouro or S. Jacinto, in sandy beaches. I did not know Samson gear and I’m fascinated. I’m curious about the travel rod “Todos” and those amasing lures. I’d love to see some videos of sandy beaches expeditions so I could learn which is the best choices for those terrains. Didn’t you ever tried this kind of beaches in Portugal? Thank for sharing! Pedro
I have caught bass many bass over the years from beaches and there is some footage on one or two videos. Spinning from the beach can be very good. I generally prefer the rocks! The best lure for the beaches is probably the Enticer Minnow! You need long casting lures and the Enticer Minnow and Todos are a great combo! Good luck!
Beautiful fish. What lure was that on ? And did the lure you used have the original factory shop hooks ? Or did you swap them for BKK hooks or similar? Catch of a lifetime ...
Amazing 🎉🎉
Nice
Great vid and a lovely Bluefish - shame about the seals. What leader knot are you using to cope with a pull like that?
Thanks, I was using a palomar knot leader to my clip
18:00 that's a false albacore. they generally fight harder than the bonito. some of the fast inshore fish in the world, though mostly they're caught offshore and further south. around the world they're called "macktuna" and i think they're the same species. in warmer water they get fairly big. you tell them apart by the patterns, bonito have lines and albies have dots and swirls. the bonito also have teeth.
thats very interesting thanks! I knew albies were a possibility, as people were hoping to catch one! I wasnt sure of the differences so thanks for that! yes they certainly fight hard
Hi grant awesome fishing 🎣, what model and size Penn real were you using, looked well balanced with the rod
cheers! Was a 4000 slammer! Yes really went well with the travel rods!
hey bud. target the bass through dawn. start out slower and subsurface and once the sun produces light move over to topwater. i use spooks and pencils but you have a lot of plugs in your offering that would work. enticer, bomb, and shad would al work very well. might not be totally optimal for filming but you can get some good light if there aren't many clouds, and the fish of a lifetime if you get some luck. unfortunately the best fishing for bass in the daytime will be the conditions which are the worst for filming. heavy rain and wind in your face. new england is famous this time of year for multiple bait offerings at once. the spearing or silversides and juvenile sandeels, bay anchovies and otherwise smaller baits will be pressed up and hiding in the structure based on wind direction. they're truly at the whim of the wind and tide. larger baits have some autonomy regarding where htey end up in the wind and usually school tighter in balls off of the structure, feeding on the tiny aforementioned bait. the big gamefish stage under the groups of larger bait, adult bunker, mackerel, adult herring, and adult sandeels, being the big four that you see most often. herring run into the rivers in the spring, bunker and mackerel enter the rivers after that, and sandeels are born there. you can run your lightest tackle once hte sun comes up and burn in tins on the surface and have the time of your life on those bonito, and our favorite "albies" or false albacore. 40 mph runs from shore, getting damn near spooled by a 5 lb fish, nothing like it. another option is to move to groundfishing when the sun comes up. the gamefish generally will stop blitzing around mid morning and that's when i put on a jig or a live crab and fish the bottom. most of the bottom fish are sustainable and taste good. tautog, black seabass, scup, etc. great for catch and cook. blues are kind of bleh eating and stripers are too pressured to be taking home to the table this year in my opinion. good luck be safe, welcome to new england, and have some fun my friend. edit: those are what we call "chub macks." member of the mackerel family. good eating, decent fight on light tackle. giant blues will be on schools of those mackerel. they'll bite the tails off and the big bass will swallow the head if they're still feeding during the day.
thanks, I did fish at night and caught some striper. I was at the same area a few years back and had over 200 striper in a few days, was really fun fishing. I had some friends there I fished with this trip and it was quiet for Striper, after i left was a big storm and then they had some great Striper fishing! Shame I missed that but next time hopefully!
Great video, although those seals are a nightmare! In part one you said you took the final prototype of the Expanse Travel, just curious to know how you got on with it? Did it cope well with the blues and bonito? Looking at it for my holidays to the Canaries targeting bonito and barracudas, so hoping it will fit the bill.
Thanks! It would certainly cope withe the blues and Bonito as we deadlifted 3 kilo with it which is a lot for a light 12ft rod. It wouldnt have coped with the seal like the todos did! Ideal for casting lighter lures. I was casting 70g Enticer Minnows for much of the time to cover ground so ended up using the Todos which was brilliant! Will be using the Expanse travel a lot this summer!
And what line diameter do you use to cast 120m?😮
.23mm 20lb Samson 36 strong braid
Hey bro love your video! Where you can catch the tuna from shore?
So im just playing a seal at the moment lol ffs. If that's not testament to a decent rod i don't know what is ,amazing. That travel rod chucks a lure 100 meters like its nothing I can't wait to move to portugal and pull the trigger on some of this kit.
Ha! I locked fully down on that seal, amazing the rod held up!
@@lurefishingfromtheshore-gr8270 Brilliant Grant. On a side note when you get a chance grab a mike that cuts down on wind noise. keep the vids rollin Mr.
Wonder what seal tastes like....😁
you're in their home and should act accordingly. big female grey seals are 3-400 lbs. the males are 6-800 lbs and we should all be thankful they don't put us on the menu. even the harbor seals can be 300++ lbs. anyway, they won't stick around at a spot like that. there's current and jetties are designed so seals cannot use them as spots to haul out and rest. they generally use natural rocky bars and poorly designed manmade structures. around those spots you'll find very little respite from seals and you should move. if there are multiple individuals in the area like he's fishing now you'll need to move. otherwise just wait a spell and they will be gone. again, this is their home, they are hunting for food and we're doing it for sport, and they've got teeth bigger than your dog and they're friendly with us. we should be humble, share the ocean, and get good.
Yes! Still dont like seals 😉
