Ill always love the old games coz back then it was only for fun win or lose it didnt matter i do miss the 80,s 90,s gaming, i only play my ps2 over 80 games im happy with it, ps3 for a few games not much but modern games can go to hell there more of a cash grab than anything else

I use OPL loading games from a shared network folder. It works great on the PS2 Slim, better than using USB.

You're missing a very huge point : We had actual friends ! Coming at home, or going to their to play together. A community of real people with which we shared games, programming tips (had an Amiga) and just had fun playing and sharing the SAME screen.. Yeah sure look weird by today's standard when everybody has 5 thousand virtual friends they never met. The worst is about ownership. I could afford like 2 games a years : paid twice, owned 2 games. Nowaday, you pay monthly and don't own shit, no movie dvd, no music cd and no games. Litterally subscribing to the void.

Games got worse because we failed to gatekeep. Games were produced by gamers to gamers. Now they're produced by corpos to wider audiences. Everything mainstream sucks, especially in the woke era.

I agree with SM64 being one of the best, most important games ever made. I too had that sensation of "This is going to change everything" when I first played it. Even today, the atmosphere of it is pure magic, and the core mechanics still hold up to this day. Another honorable mention on that front would be Daytona USA.

Remembering the bit wars had pushed devs to make games that pushed the limits of a console but still had them thinking of the fun factor and creative aspect of the games... for the most part. LJN pushed out a lot of shiz back in the day. several smaller dev teams started out with them and became big names in the 90s. Grew up in the late 80s through the 90s and i sm still playing my SNES, Sega and PS1. My Daughter is 7 now and she loves playing Donkey Kong Country 2 and Diddy Kong Raceing with me. Current gaming is just boiled down to $$ grabs worse than Atari pumping out any and everything possible to make a buck. I stopped playing COD after Blackops 3 due to nothing but loot box cash grabs to get PTW weapons

The risen trilogy comes to mind as criminally underrated b games.

i come from saturn that was my first console and i have to say that games are still very good especially on pc switch ps5 and xbox are slow but baldurs gate 3 was a blast i really don't know where this bs comes from the quality that comes on new hardware is good bloodborne is one of my all time favorite games and was a ps4 title the witcer 3 i could go on and on

Older games were better because we were experiencing things for the first time, and witnessing the evolution as it happened... now a days we have seen it all, so there is nothing exciting left in games, movies or music.

I’m 44 and started on a Radio Shack keyboard computer that had basic Pinball and Breakout type games. From there it was C64 followed by Amiga and after that, literally everything else. I don’t necessarily think that older games are better, I think the way we play games is worse. Game companies want to lock you into their franchises as tightly as possible, especially online games like GTAO. I recently started playing games like they are console cartridges swapping between games throughout the session instead of pouring my time into one or two games only. I now have a healthy collection of physical titles, a PS3 and PS5 under the TV and 58 platinums.

I never liked the gamecube version something just seemed off about it.

Retro games are wonderful. I do love modern games but not as much as the last 8th generation. The modern 9th generation isn't so amazing and unfortunately it's fll of greed and laziness. Cool video. ^_^

Another benefit of modern emulation is the ability to use some truly great CRT shaders to simulate many aspects of using old displays. Sure, you do get retro collections which might have a CRT filter or two, but they tend to be primitive and inflexible compared to what you can do with RetroArch, and especially when you install shaders not already included. Emulation can open the doors for so many great options, and my goodness does it save on space and money!

so how would i connect a ps2 to it? do i connect my ps2 component cables to the retrotink and than an hdmi cable to the retrotink thats connects to my lg cx oled tv?

The title should be 'Why old games _are_ better'.

I've said this many times but for me it is microtransactions and games as a live service have killed most modern games, sure there are the exeptions like BG3 but on the whole it is just slop.

Older stuff had more "blessings" to them, it's that simple.

I'm old now, but l feel today is the best cuz you can play everything, from arcade, retro console, pc, vr... Kids are spoiled but it takes a Dad to show them all this stuff. If the only buy them s switch or ps5 they miss out.

Wave Race 64 is my favourite video game full stop. An jaw-dropping masterpiece that has the best gameplay ever.

Nice Video , because except from opinion or experiences , these things are right. For example , Old game or old movies or old music are just easy to love over new. But this video points out the bads in the modern games. I love new games but they're bombarded with big flaws like bugs , broken game at launch. unfinished games , DLC and microtransaction that is horrible ( some make good DLC and it's okay , infact old games didn't got DLC but new ones can enjoy more content ) Speaking from not taking sides because there are ups to modern games but it's not enough. Like MODERN gaming = Indie or choose carefully. You can't buy the next " AAA " game anymore , without drilling all the info and reviews. Older games were made for fun ( some were not ) , and they got money. Now it's made for money in mind , modern games are bad when a 2015/6 game is better looking than a 2024 game , because they go all shortcuts in it to make it look good but not enough. SOme modern games are awesome and best to look at but they rob you of lots of money with nasty microtransactions. Free stuffs being removed and coming back as paid . etc

I did basically everything like this i even changed the beta version and still nothing is working i couldnt see it appear in the models even i was able to enabled it like activate but its still not shwoing

The real reason is because you only remember the good parts. Broken, unfinished games have existed since the Atari 2600. 20 years from now, people will only remember the Elden Rings and Baldur Gate 3s of this generation and talk about how great of an era it was while all the crappy looter shooter live services will be lost to time.

Also a thing to consider was hardware constraints. Nowadays you dump a game On System x and adjust the settings until it somewhat runs. Systems back then were so limited that limitations often bred creativity!! 🎉

This Early Access phenomenon has also risen where paying customers are used as game testers. You might believe that this way the customer would also have a say in the development of the game and the appointed environment to discuss game related subjects is Discord in general but many times you will be attacked by an army of fanboys if you have the slightest critique about their games and get scolded for it.
