Scouting for Fall Napa River Stripers…Big Shticks!
A quick session to see if the fall stripers have arrived on the Napa River. The action is decent with the right presentation & tidal movement. The evening king tides & subsequent minus tides have heavily stained the water. There is a bite to be found on lures. But it is by no means is in full swing. As the morning & evenings get cooler I surmise the bite will turn on & become more steady.

As someone who BBQ’s. Cooking large quantities or “big meats” is something we do all too often. More often than not, we’re stuck with a large amount of leftovers. Once the thrill of conquering said meats is over & the desire for it has waned. What do you do to not let all that hard work, time, money & your BBQ perfection not go to waste? For me, I refer to this as the BBQ’ers hangover. Sometime...

I’m BACK & I’m Reviewing TLA’s Lingcod recipe…Sorta!

#LINGCOD #RECIPE #BIGSHTICKS I needed a fresh & new recipe for lingcod. I came across TLA’s video & decided I’d try my hand at it & give it a shot. To be fair I didn’t make it using the exact ingredients. It turned out pretty good, not great, but it has potential. For that reason I will be trying different variations of this recipe to see if I can nail down a go to version.

I missed that pg&e tower i wonder if the forbidden gate still open for public 😂
@@chocotoynk2931 😂 it was never truly open to the public…all the Lolo’s kept cutting it open. The fence up now is undefeated!
@BigShticks i love all the lolo's there as they always drink while fishing. Can you still launch your kayak in that spot?
@@chocotoynk2931 I still launch there all the time.
@BigShticks nice! One day i wanted to launch there i just got my cheap kayak and wanted to try that area for kayak fishing going to wetlands. Do you think an anchor is needed in that area current wise?
@@chocotoynk2931 If you’re out on the main river & want to stay stationary I’d say yes. However, I’ve only ever used an anchor while fishing sturgeon on the kayak. Because my kayaks are pedal powered. I do have the ability to stay appropriately positioned in slow to medium current when casting for striper with lures. Or I’ll move to an area with little to no current that is adjacent to swift moving current. This allows me to fish for prolonged periods of time without needing to constantly reposition.
I know this is kinda old video but can you still launch a kayak on where this vid is nowadays? I missed this place where i can go passed that forbidden gate! 😉
@@chocotoynk2931 I still do without issue
Absolutely 👍🏻 loved 🥰 this video… just wish I had a grinder …
@@sb9442 Electric grinders are widely available for relatively cheap. Don’t be swayed into buying a super expensive one meant for industrial or commercial use. You simply won’t be using it in that facet. There’s also some cheap manual countertop crank models that can do the same work with a little elbow grease if you’re grinding small quantities of meats. It’s hard go wrong with either option though. Or throw it out there as a Christmas gift suggestion.
if you are cooking a big london broil like that one in the sous vide, DO IT FOR 12 HOURS! you're welcome. i made one at 130 degrees for 12 hours and it was crazy. quarter stick of butter, garlic powder salt and worchestershire sauce in the bag while cooking and brown on scalding hot cast iron griddle pan with the raised lines before serving.

Why can't u use spare ribs
@@rodneybrockington8514 They have a lot of tough muscle & collagen which take an eternity to cook. This makes them less than ideal for frying. In fact they are simply better suited being cooked in a low and slow manner. Too long in any oil bath is not a good thing. They over brown, the exterior becomes to overcooked & dry, plus the center still remains a very tough bite. Thanks for asking!

It’s beyond me why they just don’t bring them carts out already modified like that they’d sell a hell of a lot more
@@pitchkapizda8355 I do share the same sentiment. But I can also see how from a business & product design perspective how making their products fully modifiable with the purchase of additional components is beneficial to their bottom line. But it also allows for the end user to get creative & find fulfillment in making custom modifications that suit their needs specifically. I do believe however, that when you pay as much as folks do for a Hobie & other Hobie specific products, you do so only looking at the issue you’re trying to address. Not knowing that while the product you purchased addressed an issue, but it also created another small inconvenience you now are forced to deal with. It’s a vicious circle to be sure.
How do you like the Compass for ocean fishing? Would you recommend it, or would you recommend a different kayak?
@@MarcGaudette-q7g The compass is a very capable kayak at a great price. It doesn’t have all the bells & whistles that an Outback has. But it also doesn’t carry the price tag or the additional 40lbs of hull weight. Which was also a huge factor in my decision to purchase.
This came out so good. I added paprika and chili powder.
@@ericknickerbocker7476 sounds delicious
Dope !

If you want more char and caramelization a little sprinkle of sugar will bring it up. If you don’t like the extra cleanup on the grill, just hit the meat with a flambé torch. Compromises of indoor “grilling”…
My chicken never looked that horrible using the pit barrel. That chicken is raw!!🤔🤔
How long do you cook it for?
@@tammyvasquez96 20-23 mins
Wow $1.97 a pound only 3 years ago!?!? Today on "sale" it's $4.98 per pound. Inflation is killing us!!! Thanks Joe 😡
@@darkl3ad3r Totally agree
sounds and look more hard than crispy
Well there are very few pork belly’s that are actually crispy & they require a seriously long & steady low temperature cook that allows the skin to puff. But given it’s an air fried pork belly the results are similar to a boiled & deep fried rendition minus all the oil. In fact it tastes better than fried & I don’t say that lightly. Sure it’s more crunchy than crispy. But that’s what every Asian culture is looking to achieve when making a pork belly.
You’re a genius.. thanks for
Glad it helped

Medium high on one of those pans? It's better if you use a pan that holds more heat like a cast iron pan and put it as high as it could possibly go. Much better sear and faster. Also I've never heard anybody smashing down a London broil steak to make it look flatter. I'm a butcher and all my slices are flat. Also if you sous-vide it you don't have to let it rest.
Very helpful. Thank you
The fries were cooked too long! Spray with some Olive Oil, very lightly! Add a teaspoon of baking soda with your flour and see how crispy your wings get!
I love mine
Thanks for sharing. May I ask...as I have the standard hard wheel cart, will this pad eye fits? Thanks in advance. Louis
Yes it most certainly will. It fits all Hobie carts except those in the itrek series
@@BigShticks Thank you so much. Louis
Wouldn’t it be healthier to cut the fat out
Are you suggesting that I don’t? It really depends on what my intent for that grind is. If I’m just grinding for general purpose I go 75/25 - 80/20. If it needs to have more fat (sausage making/burgers) I leave it in. If it needs to be leaner (chili/ lasagna/ taco meat, I take it out. Honestly, no animal fats are inherently bad for you. It’s the only fats your body can process. It’s the synthetic fats (vegetable, canola, corn, shortening) that are the worst for you.
I have a scenario base question for you if you don't mind giving me your thoughts. I have a ladder racker wide enough to fit 4 hobies on it, but they will be secured on their sides using a T Slot J-Style Kayak Carrier. Do you think these things are gonna crack being on their side while driving down the highway? I mean they're gonna be secured and padded with foam... Just wondering if they can handle slight stress mounted on the side.
I have a few buddies that have trailers with similar set ups. None have experienced any stress fractures, warped hulls or damage to my knowledge.
@@BigShticks Awesome, thank you for the quick reply
I just bought this grill and I’m looking forward to using it.
So it's fine if the grease falls on the heat thingy ???
For the most part it doesn’t contact the heating element. The element sits inside of grooved slots in the grill/griddle plates that are shaped like the element. Fat falls through holes that are outside of those grooves and drips down to the drip plate below the element.
