Great review what do you think about the kick that you get when you go in first gear.. it was quite a push forward.. I have got a v7 850 and it doesn’t do that at all.. I was surprised by the]at quirk
Apparently all V100's and presumably the Stelvio also, do it. It does make me wince sometimes. The bike doesn't seem any the worse for it, I'm pleased to say. Thank you for your comment.
I'm in Ontario Canada our new bike show is in February. I'll be ordering a 2025 trident. I bought my first bike in July 1976 it was a 74 Kawasaki H1 definitely not a starter bike I had to learn fast.
Hi Bob, wow an H1. I'll bet you wished you still had it!
Yessir my third bike when I was 19 was a Kawasaki z1r turbo
Try ZX1 in the engine oil and fuel tank.
Thanks I'll take a look.
I have a '23 V7 Stone Special Edition, and a '24 V100 Mandello Aviazione Navale (my sixth and seventh Guzzis over the last 40 years). Riding these bikes back-to-back is like night and day. The V7 has a smoother transmission, and yes, my V100 "clunks" going into first gear from a stop. I have the big-bore Agostini headers, y-pipe (no cat), and Mistral muffler with the dB killer still in it on the V100. I haven't noticed any "hunting" like you mentioned, but I've only put 300 miles on my V100 over the last five months. Here in the States, I think there are less than 30 Guzzi dealers for the whole country, so it's not a bike you're likely to see another one of riding around. Luckily for me, I have a Guzzi dealer about an hour away, so that's a definite plus. Guzzis are certainly niche bikes, and won't win any comparison tests on paper with competitors from Japan, Italy, UK, or Germany. But if you want a bike that oozes character, has "soul", and will make you smile every time you ride it, I'd highly recommend a Guzzi. I would absolutely buy either one of my Guzzis again!
I’ve been ironing one of these bikes to add to my collection because they look so stunning. Thank you for your in-depth review.
You're welcome.
Mine is great! ❤
I've had an RC24, 2x 36, 2x 46, an early vtech and now the RC79 800F (not to mention Pan 11 and 13). Fi was the best and regret selling both ! The 2016 800F is clearly more modern, brakes are a huge improvement, it has some electronics and refined vtech, but its still just an Fi revisited. Power is subjective to say the least, there is nothing gutless about any of them and not having huge torque allows decent control in poor conditions without needing any fancy electronics. Overall, the reason most people ride a VFR of any era is not from comparing it to other bikes, it's purely the experience of a fine piece of engineering and a glorious engine. Any bike is relevant if you enjoy it.
Had a GS1200, this is a feather in comparison…. and my gears shifts as smooth as butter, first and neutral included, but I have had it since 2019 and treated my gears shifting with care….
The gear change is good, other than into and out of neutral. I had the old (and I think best) air/oil cooled gs' and the low c of g for me, makes them superior to the V85 interms of all forms and speeds of handling.
Great bike, btw how tall you are?
5 '8" /172cm so this bike is right on the cusp for me. However, it is fairly light.
@@ailijase8 hi im 5 10 so should be ok
Makes me feel better I bought one just from the videos 😎 thanks so much
Well I think you've made a very good choice Chris.
It looks like an italian VFR. I want one.
A fair comparison
This will probably be my next bike if I fit on it. The more I see the more I like! I've got a Rocket right now but I think the Trident will be a great addition. These modern Triumphs are hitting it out of the park.
Great review, I've owned a few fireblades over the years including the 919, but never owned a VFR, I've found one on marketplace and I'm seriously considering buying it, thanks for the well thought out and informative information.
You're welcome Ghosty. Classic 90s VFRs are ridiculously undervalued.
I’ve had the S version for 1 year too. It was in the shop for 1 month to replace a coolant pipe that had a pinhole leak in it. Otherwise, I haven’t experienced any other problems with the motorcycle. I really like it and I don’t have any buyers remorse. It’s a joy to ride! It’s my left calf that cooks a little on very hot days and I’m working on something to help with that. I agree that the fuel range indicator shouldn’t be relied upon. I refuel every 180-200 miles. The lurch forward when engaging 1st gear is just a Guzzi character trait lol. The Ohlins suspension delivers a superb ride! I have 7,800 miles on the bike. I did have to install a California Scientific large windscreen to make it suitable for all day trips. My average fuel economy is 50 miles per US gallon.
Hi Larry, thanks for your comment. So far (and I'm tempting fate here) mine has been major trouble free, fingers crossed 🤞 it stays that way.
On-bike audio too muffled.
Yes I'm trying to improve it.
@@blueyondermoto good luck. Beautiful bike.
Nice review! I am a 60 year old owner of a 23' Trident. I started out on minibikes as a 7 year old and have been riding ever since. I've owned scores of bikes, and there are not many bikes I haven't at the least, taken a spin on. As an off the shelf bike, in my opinion, the Trident is as good as it gets. Sure, you can always find little things that could be tweaked on any bike... but as top tier daily rider/back road carver, the Trident is hard to beat. I will echo the sentiment that the quick shift/auto blipper is a must have option; aside from that, the bike is as close to perfect as an all arounder gets. The bike loves to be ridden with purpose. It absolutely shines when you keep it above 4k rpm. You paid for 10k revs so use them. When I hear reviewers complaining about throttle response; well, that just tells me that they don't know how to ride and shift a triple. Do not baby the 3 cylinder, because that is not how they work. One thing that you forgot to mention? Triumph included a slipper clutch to protect you from botched shifts and allow you to aggressively downshift with ease. The TC is basic and not too obtrusive. It does its job and keeps things tidy while allowing a good rider to push the bike without noticeable interference. You can certainly turn it off, but you are taking away from the overall capability of bike. MotoGP rides TC and so should you. Don't even get me started on anyone who claims that 80 hp in this trim is not enough. The Trident is not a track bike, that is not what it was designed for. The Trident is what a naked bike is supposed to be. The Trident is also not really a beginner bike as I have seen some reviews claim. I would suggest that someone should spend time on a much more tame (forgiving) machine as their first road bike. This motorcycle allows a less, but still, experienced rider to have an enjoyable, confidence inspiring ride while offering an experienced rider a highly capable machine that can be pushed hard. The bike is weaponized fun.
I love that, "weaponised fun". 😃. Thanks for your great comment.
Or sure when the satin/matt paint started but I don’t like anything about it
It's takes some looking after.
Best bike out there. I'd love one.
There are some bargains to be had at the moment.
I am jumping from a 2012 speedmaster which i love but has become to heavy for me now Great video BTW
If you're jumping to a Trident you will notice a big difference.
Its a shame about the lable "beginnerbike"it sets the bike in the category 18-25 years old riders that put it in high insurance class with high accsident frequency, not good for a experiensed older riders that want this bike
A good point!
I love the way it looks and I kinda want a smaller bike (not getting rid of the Rocket though) but I haven't seen one in person. Would it be an ok fit for taller riders?
Difficult to say. It feels fairly roomy to me. You need to ho and sit on one .
I've already read the "5 Things I Hate About My Fireblade" and now back to this video. Mine is 97 cbr900rr. I would tell you about the "uncomfortable" when you feel on your body with riding your 900rr. My point is that "Uncomfortable" roots from "lack of PROPER knee grip" Try it 😄
I'll bear that in mind 😉
Thinking about buying one 1500$ 10 k miles
If it's sound, that's a bargain.
Omg new riders are spoilled for choice these days with these cheap low capacity machines 😊
They are Miles. This looks a square on competitor to the Royal Enfield HNTR.
@@blueyondermoto far far better than re hunter .... thsi same motorbike launched in india 2 year ago ... both cb350 & re hunter long time review are present ... and cb350rs beat hunter in every scenario
@hobbyist_bharatsuthar430 that's really interesting, thanks. The GB350S does look good. The Honda staff on the stand did confirm that it's made in the Japanese factories.
Excellent, balanced, mature review. Thanks friend.
Thank you Jeff, glad you liked it.
I had a 2021 V85TT. Agree with all your observations accept I didn't find the bike to be particularly top-heavy. Totally agree on the windscreen. I tried the aftermarket but never really found a screen that worked. Spoiled everything for me.
Hi Joe, what bike did you replace it with?
I replaced it with a Kawasaki Vaquero.
@@joe2479 I shall have to look up what that is called over here.
Hello! I advise you to lock the white balance on your camera, this to avoid the constant shifts in color temperature
Thanks I'll check. I think it's more Insta 360 vs GoPro.
@@blueyondermoto Ohh, could be! But you could still lock them both to maybe 5800K (or higher, I like warmth in footage haha). But ye, that should give them both the same color temperature.
There's a trick to first gear selection, pull in the clutch start to select first slightly letting the clutch lever out, not quite to bite point and bobs your uncle, I've owned two guzzis, both clunked into first,, I kept one, Breva 1100, for 17 years, only recently sold it,,
Good tip Michael 👍
Great viideo review and I agree entirely I bought one new in May 2024 after a few years not riding bikes other than 100cc honda runabouts and after having various sports bikes ie. Gsxr suzuki and I find it excellent and different . I live in Catalonia Northern Spain and the climate and roads here are great for bikes ( hardly any potholes ! ) . I recomend it highly , take no notice of some of the STUPID comparisons to 1100 cc super bikes is like comparing a car to a bus get real .
In fact I'm going for a run on it now !
Thanks and enjoy the ride. I might take mine out shortly.
Just bought one best bike I’ve ridden and I’ve had a fair few bikes in my 32 years of riding
Just keep an eye on the Regulator Rectifier.
It takes a little effort to get the V85 into neutral; but so what? The bike shifts beautifully compared to most of the bikes I've owned. I know better from experience than to depend on neutral lights. For me it's automatic to check whether the bike really is in neutral or still in gear. Even with the bikes like my Honda CB500F with close to perfect shifting it was still not 100%. It's just common sense.
Thanks for that lesson David 👍
Why didn't you choose for the original travel screen if you want a good windscreen?
In hindsight I probably should have, however, there seems to be mixed reports on the Travel screen too.
@blueyondermoto I was totally fine with it.
Interesting review. I have a 2023 V100s. Pluses: I would add braking a a plus as well. Seat and riding position is comfortable for long rides. Excellent looking , functional and easy to mount luggage Cons:; Front fender allows road debris to coat the motor. No tail rack. I had an Aprilia Futura that had a high rev at idle and a clunk when shifting from N-1st. My thoughts are that the clutch plates clearance is minimal. Add transmission fluid viscosity and you get a drag on the clutch. Viscosity is slightly higher especially when it is cold. The clunk is more pronounced. The hgih revs maybe so that the motor doesnt stall. Just my thoughts. I love this bike. I added crash guards, tail rack, pyramid frnt fender extender, heli bar risers. GPS mount, Laminar lip, I also acquired from Guzzitech a compact wheel hub nut tool that works on front and rear wheels. I am in the process of decating . Agostini big bore headers and I will upmap.
Wow you've been busy!
I have a 2020 leftover. They do take a while to run in. Mine has gotten much nicer after 5k miles. I did add a spoiler to the screen and made a great difference. I also had it lowered 1 inch with a Hyper pro suspension kit. Handles fine, i have Metzlers on it.
So many professional reviewers said the V7 is "characterful". Journalistic shorthand for "quirky" or "odd" which might be seen as a negative review risking advertising revenue. As a word Characterful has no meaning. After all "bland" and "boring" is also a character traight. Having two 850 V7s I can say there is nothing ordinary about the V7, but the same is true of almost every other bike that is not a Japanese four ( nothing wrong with those but they all feel the same). Everything you say about the V7 is true including the starter delay which my bikes have. Yes there are some odd things about it and it is unlike any other bike I have owned in the past 60 years. However once you understand how it works and how to ride it, it is a complete joy.
The clunk into first gear has never bothered me, I upgraded from a Harley Davidson which has a more worse first gear clunk! I suspect the high idle speed is to minimise vibrations from that v-twin
Yes it's all about perspective and where you've come from on other bikes.
Great video with some really good insights on this bike. I have a V85TT that I'm a bit frustrated with! I find it gutless above 70mph and not great for overtaking at all, more similar to a small car than the performance of other bikes I've owned, because of this I rarely take it on the motorway. Also my displayed mpg is far lower than yours! I'm wondering if you have some mods that have made a difference or is there something wrong with my bike! 🤔
I have been gentle with it Niall so possibly why it's so good on fuel. However, at 70 (ish) on the motorway it drops dramatically. I almost mentioned in the video about the mismatch of range to empty with the low fuel light. Ive had 90 miles range shown but the low fuel light on. Which do you believe? Like you I've had a couple of instances where I haven't had enough acceleration to be comfortable with an occasional overtake. It's noticeably slower (significantly) to pick up than either the V100 or the Trident 660 (which is a little rocket). Thanks for your comment! 👍
Looks great, I wondering to buy it as third bike in my garage.
It's the 3rd in my garage and it's fantastic fun to ride. Ignore the nonsense about soft throttle, it's ideal for the road (I don't ride on track and I don't rideon road like I'm on track) I prefer to say its Smooth! Perfect mapping, no snatching on and off throttle and she goes like a stabbed rat! I saw a video which declared that at high revs over 100 mph it runs out of go. Well I can't remember the last time I rode at over 100mph? At the speeds the vast majority ride at its plenty quick enough.
....and if you do get one, get the TAS quickshifter fitted. If you find one without, get your Triumph dealer to fit one, £300 for an official Triumph accessory is a bargain.
Bought my 95 in Oct 2021, it had 30,391 miles on it so upgraded the exhaust for stainless system, did the vfrness & rectifier upgrade, replaced the rear shock & front suspension before adding a wingrack & panniers on it, she has ( touch wood ) ran without issue since .. 👌 oh noticed the backlight for the clock has burnt out but thats it ! Now has 33,206 miles New bikes, no thanks 😆 ..
My clock never worked properly. It always resets to 1.00 when the ignition is off!
@@blueyondermoto ahh 😯 mine doesn’t .. from what the forum says it could be one of 4 things ranging from a bad battery, stator, voltage rectifier or even a loose ground wire somewhere 🤔
I own one of this since two years and drove more than 12000 km on it. The heat of the engine is less then it was on my ktm 1290 gt I drove before. The screen is so bad. You have to change it for a bigger one. For changing gears you have to switch with concentration then it works well. The handling and the appearance is very stilish and like an old fashion bike with new new features. I love it and would never sell it again. Thank you very much for your video. I apologize for my bad english😊
Klaus, your English is just fine 👏
I very nearly bought one a couple of months ago, but in the end opted for the Honda 750 Hornet having had test rides on both. I notice that the new 2025 spec for the Trident is even better value, so can thoroughly recommend trying one out.
The Trident feels a bit bigger and more substantial, the Hornet is a great bike too, very quick, and handles beautifully. I had a short test ride on one too, loved it but got a stonking deal on my nearly new Triumph, hence why I bought that rather than the Hornet. You can't go wrong with either.
Very good video
Thank you 😊
I’ve had my outgoing EUR 5 model since June absolutely love it I’m 6ft and find it incredibly comfortable, I find the gearbox doesn’t like to be rushed, and I make sure I change down properly as neutral can sometimes be difficult to find. Was pleasantly surprised with the handling as it loves the country lanes far better than I thought it would had,had a slight issue with a brake alarm came on whilst running in which was quickly resolved by the dealership Mototechniques in Stowmarket who have been a pleasure to deal with, hopefully that’ll be the first and last issue, nothing to be put off by as my last bike which I got from new which was a Suzuki had a issue earlier on in ownership, great video.
Thanks Barry.
Thanks for the great and really interesting review. You got a beautiful looking bike there - keep her! I wanted the same color, but MG doesn't offer this particular style any longer. From my experience, I can confirm most things you have said and I have come to be very fond of my V85, but -alike some of the commentators below- I am a bit confused about the issue of top heaviness. You seem to be a quite experienced rider and to know what you are talking about, so I assume it is something you are not only "feeling". So far, I haven't noticed my V85 to be particularly top heavy. Yet, I daresay that I owned nimbler bikes with the same mass. But they were typical road bikes and the center of gravity is naturally a bit higher on an adventure bike. Have you compared the V85 to other "adventure style" machines that size? The discussion below your video seems to imply that other competing bikes are way top heavier. It is interesting thought, that this is never "scientifically" tested in any reviews (much different than with sailing boats for example, where mathematicians calculate exactly when a vessel will tip over). So, in a nutshell, how do you actually determine, if a bike is on the top heavy side? It can't be just subjectivity, right?
Absolutely right, how a bike feels is an extremely subjective thing. The old Guzzi engine is quite heavy and is carried much higher than, say, my V100 road bike. Probably because I ride the V100 a lot, it's more noticeable to me.
Very underrated bike 31k mls on mine no probs, first gen the best
I'd rather not have the VVT.
I have a EUR 4 model as yours, I have fitted it with tubeless rims from the EUR 5 model, so in that way it makes it quite the perfect bike for me, I have no trouble with the gearbox, basically I love the bike......... Except for one thing, poor dealer net and customer support i DK , I need a working bike everyday of the year, only two dealers in DK, 6 weeks waiting list for a computer update, and I don't dare guessing waiting list for spare parts? (If needed) ....... So I have a Honda NC750XD motorcycle standing next to it, as my everyday workhorse, and if I'm financially forced to choose between them, I'm afraid the Guzzi had to go. Not because the Guzzi has done anything wrong but it seems to be let down by its own creator which are said to be putting up high "standards" to become a dealer, more than the revenue can pay for. But as long as I can afford it, the Guzzi stays, beautiful bike to look at, and ride 👍😎
Hi Mikael, I know exactly what you mean about practicality vs desirability. Only 2 dealers in the whole Denmark? Wow that's incredible. Here the dealer network isn't great but we are not down to just 2. Standards of service at the dealerships vary. Hope you keep enjoying a Guzzi for years to come.
Love those bikes
Great review Alan, I've had quite a few bikes over the years but the V85TT is the most comfortable bike I've owned for all day everyday comfort, I'm 5'9". I travel to Aberdeen from Middlesbrough regularly in the summer time, its 300mile one way, sometimes on the way home I'll head out over to the West coast of Scotland on a 2-3-day road trip averaging 250 mile a day, the only gripe we had in common there was the wind noise and buffeting, yes ear plugs are a must. I nearly cooked the engine on a hot day (27°c) with the wife on the back, got stuck in heavy traffic due to a cycle race in the area, I has stuck behind a bus crawling up Saltburn bank, when the bus turned off I opened her up a little and got pre ignition knocking, I eased off and it went away, about 20 minutes after this I was on a duel carriageway heading home I opened her up again and the same knocking so took it easy all the way back, I was straight online and ordered some pipes (£125) and a power plug (£123), I cut the Cat off with an angle grinder changed the engine oil, installed the new pipes and plug, now the engine can breathe, it runs cooler and the torque is coming in a lot lower in the rev range. I already had a Zard End Can fitted, now she sounds great, not to loud though. I think you'll have a job replacing the V85TT, if I ever have to change my bike, I'd replace it with another V85TT one with Alloy Wheels, the Strada model. If I was using my head, I'd get a NC750X but one day I'd bump into someone on a V85 and regret everything.... Stick with the bike you love; the grass isn't always greener.
And number of people have commented about "cooking the engine" was the plug from mistral?
@@blueyondermoto yes, that's the one Alan, the Mistral plug is connected to the air box and the temperature sensor is along under the seat. Now I know the implications of doing this mod, (aftersales value and insurance implications) however, I have looked after the bike since I bought it second hand with only 300 miles on the clock and two month old, the bike had a service at about 600 miles by the dealer, the bike was vibey, checked the Valve Clearances and they were out of spec, I adjusted these myself and took my time over this and since then the bike has ran a lot smoother. All the maintenance is done by myself the access is so good and that’s another reason this bike is a keeper.
Nice details, looks fun. They added cruise control and the quick shifter standard for ‘25. I am finally interested in a Triumph again. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Some good new colours too.
