Hi there, I'm Paul, and I am a music producer / sound designer and live in Munich. Together with my friend Michael Miller who is a musician / media creative from Munich we write in-depth gear posts and create TH-cam videos.
A Gnarly Retro Lead Sound: Boss GE-7 into Benson Germanium Fuzz | Fender '57 Custom Champ
In this video I'm discussing a specific guitar lead sound you can hear on a lot of 60ies records across genre boundaries. "Taxman" by the Beatles is an example that comes to my mind. I set out to recreate "that" sound with the gear I have at my disposal.

Dual Amp Looper Setup Vol. I | Fender Jazz Tele | Suhr Hombre | Roland JC 40 Jazz Chorus

In this video, I'm having a little looper jam with a two amp setup. The dual amp setup allows for a bit more separation and clarity between the different parts. I'm playing my Fender Parallel Universe Jazz Tele. By switching between the different Pickup Positions and by using the Volume and Treble controls plus an EQ pedal I can carve a sonic niche for every loop, I'm using the Looper in the Bo...

This and tub screamer are my best allies!!❤❤❤
Solo reminds me of John Frusciante
They could throw that neck on anything and I’d be all for it!
Thank You for the great demo. I will update my pedalboard with DD-8, and Your demo helped a lot.
Hi, Thank you and happy new year, I hope you have fun making music with your new setup!
is there a knob that control the saturation, or is there only one setting?
HI, it's an on/ off setting. I think the bigger brother, the Re-202 has more in depth control.
I've got the same guitar and were thinking about getting the plumes Now, I definitely have to Thx ❤
Yes, they seem to go well together!
Why do you have the compressor on? I find that takes away all the dynamic of an envelope filter
Hi, yes, the compressor is on. With the filters, especially the Q-Tron going into a clean-ish amp, I find needs some dynamic control as it can get rather spiky. I don't know anymore why I put the compressor first in chain, but I it probably sounded better.
Mibbee it's years under sirens and exposure to gunshot and explosions , but I couldn't discern any difference between the 62 / 64 , the 52 was a bit more mellow . All 3 sound like a telecaster. No surprise there .
Do you have a special way to sync the slicer to the drum machine? I find with the SL2 you have to apply midi clock & then trigger it exactly at the moment of the down beat.
I perfer 64
I perfer 64
as always the life missing from Digital versions
These are both bad envelope filters.
I think envelope filters work best with guitars when you reamp them and have more dynamic control.
Sounds terrible. Wanted to buy this but maybe after watching this maybe not
When digital emulation started stuff always sounded good in a bad way. I had a Korg Pandora, which I could only use for practice. Nowadays digital stuff seems to sound bad in a good way. What I mean by that is, that if you listen to a lot of professionally recorded guitar sounds they actually often sound underwhelming and only come to life in a mix. That being said, I did sell the Ruby since I somehow didn't connect with it and I was looking for a portable holiday solution at the time. I think I should have gotten the Dream.
Crispy! 😋
I've been searching for a Magnatone vibrato pedal for some time. Tried some but none sounded good. Then I did some research and found an article explaining the original circuit. It was a phaser not a chorus... tried with my Lillian and ended up with the exact same setting as yours. 🙂
A pedal demo using my favorite guitar i own? Perfect, gotta get a plumes now
I like DS-1 into BD-2
DS-2 Mode Turbo vs DS-1W Mode Custom...?
Glad I've got my Topanga in front of all my gain pedals! 😊
Is this amp good for bedroom use? Does it get loud enough? Or is it really quiet? Don't know if i should get one, or a princeton for home use. I definitely want to be able to set it at the edge of breakup
Hi, that's a bit tough to answer. I'd say it's great for bedroom use in that you can turn it to 10 and sit next to it and play, without it blowing your ears off (at least I could). However, depending on what your living conditions are, this could still be to loud for your neighbours. On the other hand it's definitely not loud enough if you're rehearsing with a band. I love that you can turn it up to a point where it really starts to interact with your guitar and adds to the sustain f.e. without earbleed. I don't get that to this extend from my 57 Champ reissue (LOUD!) and my Suhr Hombre (LOUDER!!). The downside (which actually is more of a matter of taste) is, that it has that typical Silverface scoop. Unfortunately I don't have the Silverface Princeton that I used in some of my earlier videos around anymore, but with the Vibro Champ I don't really miss it. One great thing about it is, that once it warms up, it starts to smell of incense :) I guess it must have been to a lot of interesting sessions back in the late 70ies and the 80ies!
i love the look of these danelectro pedals
And they are built like tanks
sick jazzmaster
sweet tele and strap!
Thank you, I think its a D'Addario Strap.
Beautiful stack!
Thank you very much!
What’s that yellow thing above Lillian’s head?
That‘s a dried flower that somehow smuggled it‘s way into the picture😊
Has anyone compared the AV 1964 Telecaster to the Jimmy Page Mirror Telecaster regarding neck profile, pickups, etc.?
Thanks so much! This is such an elegant solution for MIDI gating. This is awesome.
The EHX is very harsh.
Yes, it kann get rather spiker, which is also why I put the compressor in there.
Best used when amp is already rawking
I use a marshall dsl 1 hr as my amplifier into a marshall 1960 a ...4 x 12 cab....with the back removed....for pedals I use a electro harmonix ripped speaker....being pushed by an electro harmonix hot wax pedal...for guitar I mainly use a squier sonic mustang...with single coils...I can easily get this tone...and many...many others...I think you would really like the ehx ripped speaker pedal...I can easily make my mustang sound like it has p90s in it
Hi! You have a nice setup going there. Yes, the ripped speaker sounds interesting, although I have to admit that prior to this video I was on the lookout for a satisfaction plus for potential inclusion. Couldn't get one at a decent price as they don't pop up very often here on eBay, reverb etc and decided to move on with the video :)
@PaulReno I plan on buying the satisfaction + pedal...as well....nice setup you you there....I enjoyed your video....have a good day
Surely it is the clipping diodes that make the difference. I built a clone of this and tried the Bat 46 schottky diode and then the 1n34a diode. Using it with 1n34a which i believed the original diodes used in earlier version, yeah the clone i built sounds identical. With the bat 46 diode it gave more distortion and less fizzy. And here is the more interesting finding. I swap the IC 741 with NE3432 and the circuit gave more bass. But, the mxr distortion+ was designed as fizzy and trebly as you increase the gain. The reason for this is any fizzy distortion would complement with any mid sounding pedal that you would put either before of after it such as Boss SD1 or TS9. This is the reason why the mxr distortion+ will work any JCM800 type of pedal. Another example of this why Steve Vai used Boss SD1 after the Boss DS1. DS1 has this high mid fizzy sound but when partnered with the mid rich sounding Boss SD1 sound good together. On the hand using two mid sounding dirt pedals will result bit nasal sound, while using two fizzy pedals together will result in transparent to maybe annoying trebly sound. Therefore it is a matter of complimenting or blending frequency of pedals.
Great tone!
Welp I know what I'm getting next
My little baby loves this song
Thank you, this must be the highest form of appreciation I received for my work so far!☺️
My little baby loves this song
Put the overdrive first and you will get a badass metal tone.
Hi, the overdrive is first. The chain runs from right to left.
MT-2 and ML-2 stack when!!
MT-2 and ML-2 stack when!!
Def got some Ratatat vibes from this chain. Great tones!
Thank you very much!
Sounds like 70s fuzz not modern high gain
Yes, I don‘t dig hi gain sounds.
for some reason, stacking these 2 pedals sound like shit. the ds1 doesn’t sound good with boosts in front of it
60% Stratocaster 30% Mustang 10% Jaguar = 😁
I don’t get why Suhr would make a brownface without harmonic trem. It’s the whole appeal of that era
It’s a 6g3 (Deluxe). They had the bias tremolo! That is also fantastic, although not as fancy as the harmonic trem. I have a 6g3 and have the tremolo on all the time. It is never in the way of the fundamental tones, but appears very musically when the notes ring out.
Flip the order. Create a chain of the fuzz running into the drive or the sound of an edge of break up amp,
Will try that👍🏽
@@PaulReno yeah you will like it. It’s the tone that produces babies lol. Rawk on!!
what the diffrences with footswitch
I‘m switching between the plumes and the ocd. Each pedals is inserted into a fx loop. With the Boss pedal I can switch between these loops.
There is a point in which you can make almost every overdrive pedal sound the same
Love this amp. Not only are the included chorus, vibrato, and reverb amazing, but it makes for an amazing pedal platform. Doesn’t seem to handle distortion or overdrive that well in my opinion. But any sort of modulation on crystal clean signals sounds amazing.
Yes, I agree. I sold a lot of the amps I featured in my early videos like the Career Felleretta, the silver Jubilee Marshall and my Fender Hot Rod. Couldn‘t part with the JC40.
Thanks for the video ! But I will add here the facts about the colour the so called clay dots. The real, colour is more of beige colour than orange brown , yes they can become darker with age and time.what fender uses today is close but nothing like the original.
Thank you very much for sharing!
Before sounds for days!
What is the purpose of using the synth as a guitar pedal. Like are you using it as delay or reverb or smthing
It‘s cheaper than most pedals and sounds great. There are loads of fx downloadable from a dedicated community. Not suitable for live, but if you are recording this is definitely an option.
@@PaulReno oh thanks for responding so fast 😀 I got it
You‘re welcome😀
