Kit Check - Mounted Samurai - Fireforge
First thing - yes I know I put the swords on upside down. There's almost no changing it, cutting them off to reposition them will ruin the parts. Oh well.
Second thing - this kit is awesome, great poses and some spare torsos so you can make more dismounted figures with the spare parts from those!

    Very well explained, like it a lot! Isn't it sometimes a bit frustrating not to be able to do "things"? Or do you get used to it? Seems to be a bit more like a role play and you either hate it or love...

    I have never built archers of what ever ilk. The question I have for you is, do you think it would be too finicky to give the bows a string? Also, do you think it strange that the bows themselves are not bent into a deeper curve on these models when they have clearly been drawn to loose the arrow?

    • @thelastbattalion3509
      @thelastbattalion3509 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I think it would be possible to model a bowstring but it would’ve fiddly. It’s not something I’ve ever tried. The shape of bows generally speaking is as you describe across manufacturers.

    The models look good and you presented well. But from a historical point of view, the swords are worn on the left side of the body not the back, usually held in place by the waist band they wear. This is so the sword can be drawn quickly by the right hand in one movement. Just saying.

    • @thelastbattalion3509
      @thelastbattalion3509 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They just say better slightly further around to the rear due to the sculpts in this case, plus the stances on many of them might suggest that in the current pose the waist position might have shifted slightly. It also serves a gaming function of not having them protrude too much and thus be more vulnerable to damage. However yes they could be more accurately placed (they are also the wrong way up).

    Would you consider doing a how to paint white but with the whole marching soldier or the jackets? The jackets have more layers and separation between them so it's interesting to see how its achieved. Trousers being one piece is more straight forward certainly but lacks the complexion of the tunics.

    • @thelastbattalion3509
      @thelastbattalion3509 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I certainly could, but it would be finding the time at the moment. The waistcoat/lapels/straps layered as they are get painted using many of the same colours and techniques, I just leave a soft grey in the extreme recesses. Additionally, the straps etc. have a slightly different tone of white and associated highlight in order to distinguish them from the trousers. I'll see what I can do!

    New boy question. Where do you measure from to determine size? From the base of the stand or from the foot of the figure?

    • @thelastbattalion3509
      @thelastbattalion3509 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That depends on both manufacturer and individual point of view. Some measure from the bottom of the feet, some from the plinth that they come cast on, it depends. Like all the other scales, you then get 'big' and 'small' versions within a scale too as people interpret aesthetics differently. Then you have scale creep over the years too. It's complicated!

    Thoughtful review, thanks. But I find they are not able to actually use katanas, without a deal of fiddling. Again, not a deal breaker, but I do think Fireforge could have easily packed a few extra pieces in. Those trousers are called "chausses" they are single legs that are worn over the brayes. Braysare over sized boxer linen shorts with no fly. Chausses are attached to a cloth belt worn high on the waist nearly under the ribs called a lendel. Some times Chausses attached directly to the Gambeson. Particularly if you are expecting to ride a lot.

    • @thelastbattalion3509
      @thelastbattalion3509 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Very kind of you and welcome to the hobby! My main advice when choosing colours is probably to pick shades that are brighter than they are in real life in order to help them stand out on such small models. Also to begin with, don't try and paint too much detail or worry about extra highlights until you start to get a feel for painting at that scale - this will also depend on the manufacturer as you will need to get used to how they have sculpted the miniatures. Have fun!
