    Man this video was just what I was looking for!! Thank you so much for your time in this, that is no small task. I just traded for a 1999 Freightliner MT45 (step van) 5.9l ISB with a Allison 542 i was told that is the same as 545 but smaller pan. But i just found a Allison 2000 that is mated to a ISB out of a bus with 86k miles on it. The seller wants $425.00 and is 150miles from me. I want to build this van as a highway rig and i am told the 542 is a city driving trans. My question is, will this be a transmission that will work good in a medium duty application? I am not certain what horsepower I have but was thinking it is 175 hp. The stepvan has 14,500 GVWR. Hope you see this and thanks for your help or advice

      That is an awesome price. Those combos usually sell north of $3k. I actually have a ISB/MD3060 frame cut listed at $7k The Allison 2000 series is great. Perfect for highway driving, i hope he saved the wiring harness with it.

    Hi, I hope you see this! I am looking to buy a school bus for my own skoolie conversion. You said you lived on a bus yard. Is that somewhere that sells them? If so can you tell me the business name? And if not do you know of any good places to look for them? Thank you much in advance! Great video BTW, very informative.

    Lagneauxs is for lunch a place for older folks. I’m 71 and wasn’t impressed. There are much better places to eat in Lafayette and surroundings and I’m sorry you have a big rig. Who cares ? Good restaurants hate busses.

Our page is a skoolie page, we attempted to consider parking in our review even tho we visited all these places in a passenger vehicle. Didn’t expect a negative comment from a Coonass, but WHATTAKNOW. I encourage you to drop your local favorites, as we want any one watching to have options!

    My first time doing that. I didn't know it was supposed to be wet. It makes sense. And I gave those metal zip ties to a friend. I used bailing wire. Much easier to work with and I tied one about every 3". I think it'll hold up. Even if it's put on dry. Or should i remove it and start over???

    Can you share info on where you got the parts and part numbers? I can't thank you enough for all your videos!!! I was stranded in the middle of nowhere when my trans blew(545). Your trans info saved my life! I would've never been able to get out of there without my bus. I live full time on my bus, so that would've left me homeless and destitute. I'm a retired smokejumper, fixed income, as well as a widow with 5 grown children. I don't have much wiggle room or resources when transmission blows. This time, it's a cracked steering tire. I'm heat vulcanizing the tire and putting it back in myself. When I took the wheel off, I noticed the cracked and warped rotor. Thanks to you two and your video, I'll be back on the road soon. 🎉

      Unfortunately I do not still have P/N’s for this job. I had to call a bluebird dealer and have them run my VIN as I was quite inexperienced with buses at the time. Thanks for watching, appreciate the kind words. I would start with Bluebird/International/thomas dealers! They should be able to give you the part number then you can order online or fleetpride to save some money

    Just got a 93 flat nose 11 window buss that a church used. Looks very well taken care of. Replaced the batteries and it fired right up. Brake air lines had some trouble with leaking and that’s where I’m at with it presently. It has a 6 cylinder Cat motor. How do you open the front bifold door when it’s closed all the way. I’m currently going through the back emergency door then opening the bifold door from the inside.

    • @parishskoolie
      @parishskoolie หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately there is no other way to open the front door from the outside once closed completely. We added a lock on our front door to be able to secure it. Other people opt to replacing in with a house door.

    I have a question. How did you adapt the speed sensor going from an automatic to your manual transmission? I have a international 3800 and swapped the Allison AT545 for a Spicer manual. The speedometer is cable driven on the spicer so a installed a VRS speed sensor. I just can't figure out, or have found any information on the wiring. Thanks

    • @parishskoolie
      @parishskoolie หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry for the delay, My speed sensor didn’t give me any issues. My speedometer was not cable driven, since I harvested my parts from the identical bus there was not many discrepancies with wires. Hope you have been able to figure it out since commenting.

      Check your fluid, if it smells and dark transmission is probably bad. If it’s too low, it won’t move. If it looks fine, look under the bus while you are in drive. If the driveshaft is spinning and the bus isn’t moving you snapped an axle. Likely scenario on Panama roads.

So, lets go safe we think, its our home. My questions is you talked about puting an other cooler, you say go big, do you have a link of this better cooler you would go for it? South carolina had plenty mid size flat nose rear engine buses rhey just took off road. I see a lot of fs65 at some district lots rotting away. Maybe they will sale them before they scrap them. But south carolina has recently updated they fleet so its a lot of busses they just parked. My favorite is the 88 international bluebird . Yes we were still using them 2020😂. They just won't stop and easy to fix

      Wow! Very cool to hear, it’s been over a year since this video was put out and we have still yet to see a mid size pusher! Bummer they are just sitting, we have already gotten to the point here in Texas where no school districts are running first or second generation internationals. FS65’s are nearly all retired here as well. Very soon we will be seeing a shortage of these pre emissions buses😢 I love the first gen internationals! Very hard to stop them from running. These newer buses these days aren’t even seeing their full life expectancy :(

    I enjoyed a lot of the info you gave out. I've been doing my research for the past several years to prepare me for the leap I'll be making within the next year. Your below the snow line for rust free buses confused me a bit. The entire Coastal Georgia area is above that line. We rarely see snow & if we do, it either doesn't stick or melts in an hour. Our buses aren't rusty.

    So... i have a 400hp MONSTER size turbo diesel in a 40' Mainship 25k#. I am getting ZERO boost. The old guy i got it from replaced the 160hp engine. This engine came with dry exhaust manifolds. He put on wet manifolds. My knowledge of engine physics tells me he is sucking all of the heat out of the exhaust charge and the turbo (while spinning freely) isnt spooling up. The marine "rules" say you must have a wet exhaust manifold. My solution is to use the double wall (wet manifild with no water) and wrap it to achive roughly the same thermal result.... and finally get some power and fuel economy. I will probably use mig wire tails as extra ties when i run out of the 10 included with the 50' of wrap. Any thoughts anybody?

      Albert, did you watch this video? It should have cleared up some things if so. This is a preference question, you’ll have to decide which you want from the characteristics of each transmission.

    if you have a holesaw the size of the flasherholes you could add a fillerpiece on top of the flasher deletes mounted in the back with one or two rivits and some sealant and have the sheetmetal level with the rest makes them a little more invisable when the bus is repainted for verry little extra effort (drilling out the 4 round pieces out of sheetmetal with a holesaw and stick them in the holes )

    Two hours and thirteen minutes for a ten minute video. I am now unsubscribing, probably like thousands before me. You guys just don't get it. No one wants to spend that much time on so little with so much repetition. Learn about editing.

      Hey John! Unfortunately you still don’t get it, these are live videos. What you are watching is in real time. Live CANNOT BE EDITED. You commented yesterday saying the same thing. Sad to see you go.

    Did you need insurance when you drive it from where you purchased it?

      Normally there is a slight grace period when driving the vehicle home immediately after purchase. However after 24 hrs I believe you’ll need insurance to put it on the road again

    Playback speed can be adjusted for this live to 2x for a quicker video! ❤

    I like what you guys do. You would have a many more subscribers if you improved your editing. You have about 10 minutes of content spread over a forty five minute video.

      We appreciate the feedback! These are live replays so they are posted directly by TH-cam after ending. Once this project is complete we will snip all these lives together for a more entertaining video 💙
