Ty bro so helpful
How did you get the casting off, with a pulley or press or through bolts ?
Pulley, was far from easy I’d say.
Subbed thank YOU thank YOu sir this is what I needed
Great pointers. ❤😊Appreciate youu!
Hello guys how u doin its been long time sence u guys posted a video r u guys done with youtube
Thanks for the concerns, we are doing very well. We both are working full time at DieselCore, a large core supplier. Learning lots, missing TH-cam. Hopefully next time you see us on here we will be much more knowledgeable!
Well done video with good information and editing. Great job
Perfectly explained - thank you
Unnecessary stupid annoying music
Hi there, At the first of the year I'm going to buy a dog nose bus with an international motor and allusion trans 2010 or newer. I was wondering what tools I should carry on the bus, like impact diver, battery charger, grease gun .... are buses SAE and metric?
were do i go to get a bus
Great information!
The only good thing about the AT545 is the sound of the first three gears whining.
What did the rpm’s look like on highest and what’s your top speed
I use hose clamps to hold the ends down.
I believe you are mistaken sir, dehydrating will decrease volume. Therefore the zip tie won’t be as tight. Plus, the friction will be decreased due to the increase in available space for the wrap to expand. Although, I imagine the total decrease is negligible and the effects are unnoticed, hence your belief that it tightens instead of loosens.
“I believe” “I Imagine” Sounds to me like you’re speculating and have no hands on experience with exhaust wrap? Going in 4 years, still in excellent shape. Just as tight as the day it was installed, so I guess you are correct. It is Negligible.
so much good in fo i didnt know about.. i currently live ina camper full time with 2 dogs. little 26 foot 2003 coleman c26qb. the thing is a roach. water damage absolutely everywhere because i had no idea what to look for when buying it and i had no idea how to maintain it or notice signs thats theres problems starting.. n ow i live in a wet rotting wooden box with soft walls everywhere and soft floors in the corners.. rsather than dump 10 grand into it rebuilding the whole shell and all floors and ceilings, sinde id be gutting the camper, ripping the shell apart down to the aluminum frame, then rebuilding the shell and rebuilding the interior, it would be less work and cheaper and give me a better final product if i just gut thge camper and use the components like furnace and fridge and ac unit and what not and build it into a school bus that i insulate super well. busses are built to last and built to be abused.. driven hard and long and keep running for 20 years.. I'm looking at a 2008 international dog nose tomorrow for $3k. Ive been watching a shit load of videos like this because im not a mechanic. i know literally nothing about school busses besides that theyre yellow.. last thing i wanna do is clear out my bank accounts to buy a roach that immediately is gonna cost me thousands to get it usable or even worse have some hidden damage that makes it NOT usable, like the rust on the bottom where you said.. more info is always better. awesome vid.
Heck yes man! Glad you liked the video 😊 check out our other videos as we also gutted a rotten RV for parts for our skoolie build. We’ve got plenty of videos on bus maintenance too!
Hello I’m Steve (68yrs), a French Canadian living in Manitoba. Planning a 2 week car camping road trip down thru Kansas City, Shreveport to Lafayette, along LA coast over to Texas and then north back home. I really liked this video, seems as food tastes are the same, I love seafood. Looking for best eats and things to see recommendations beyond Lafayette. Cheers Steve Ste Anne, Manitoba
Hey Steve, thanks for watching! Lafayette and surrounding areas have tons of festivals during the fall that we highly recommend. Vermillionville village is also wonderful during the holidays. Finally, we recommend taking a swamp tour or checking out Avery island!
Thanks so much for quick and helpful recommendations Ill check them out! Steve
I noticed the cutoff for the “newer” buses to be able to easily swap to an Allison 2000 was 2002. Why is that? I have a 2003 international that I am considering swapping, and would really appreciate some advice on how feasible this is. Thanks in advance.
the hood looks nice tho
Kool stacks! You were wearing a long sleeve shirt for protection, yet shorts & sandals? Did any fibers make their way to your lower extremities? Gravity would make loose fibers eventually float downward, no?
Thanks! Exhaust wrap is actually immune to gravity.
This happened to us. Now it’s sitting in storage in California and we’re in Louisiana. Can you recommend a mechanic
I do not know any mechanics in California.
@@parishskooliewhat about in Louisiana? I’m in Slidell now. I’m working on getting it towed
@@roshanikasworld4310 I may be willing to take on the project in Houston if you are getting it towed. Email parishskoolie@gmail.com
This is phenomenaL thank you 🎉
Thanks for watching!
Did you not refill the gear oil in the wheel assembly? I can't find it anywhere in your video, I'm trying to find where to refill it on mine and I'm hoping you didn't forget to do yours.
We did refill it! Thanks for your concern thanks 🙏🏼 It’s not in this one, but we show where to refill it in our How To Maintenance Your School Bus video 🚌
I’m a truck driver…. I’m getting my next phase of life plan in to action which is bus life. I will be buying a bus for myself in April 2025 as my birthday present to myself. I want to travel around the country attending wrestling events… Indy and professional doing my wrestling podcast on the road with my woman. I plan to take a year to build my bus… I have been watching many videos on converting and buying a bus. This is the best channel I have come across. I have always wanted to do this … being a truck driver for years has allowed me to see how beautiful the country truly is I just never get to enjoy it. I want to enjoy it. I’m ready to leave the truck driving industry and enjoy my life. I also want to build my bus from scratch and build something I have more respect for and love even more. I want it to be WWE themed inside and out Your videos actually show the full process and not just the finished product with a Timelapse of the process which I love and been searching for. Thank you it’s not just inspiring but very helpful ✅👍🏾💯🔥
Thanks for watching & thanks for the compliments! It’s a life changing decision, I wish you all the best in your adventures! Being a truck driver will definitely give you the upper hand navigating America in a big ol bus! 💛💚💜
Fantastic video! We are getting a 1996 international school bus 7.3
Wahoo!! Best of luck. Solid engine, has a huge fan base.
I tore my miniscus jumping in and out of my Isuzu NPR for a year or so till I installed a scissors step. I take flax seed oil to keep is from haunting me. Looks like you are building busses for a living now! Thats cool
Wow! Funny enough we accepted this job to pay for my meniscus surgery🤣 It was a long time injury that I was finally able to get repaired since I have good insurance now. I work full time these days with a W2 job so no bus building.
I see so many van builds that are finished polished and spit shined to a degree that is impressive to look at, but not necessary or even attainable for many of us out here struggling to live out on the road. So refreshing to see examples like yours where you are doing it as you go the best you can. Thank you for sharing this in a real way! That is encouraging for others who need to know that it doesnt have to please anyone but YOU.
Thanks for watching David! This time period surely wasn’t the funnest but it got us where we are today. Bus still isn’t finished, it will never be! Always improvements & repairs to be made.
Man this video was just what I was looking for!! Thank you so much for your time in this, that is no small task. I just traded for a 1999 Freightliner MT45 (step van) 5.9l ISB with a Allison 542 i was told that is the same as 545 but smaller pan. But i just found a Allison 2000 that is mated to a ISB out of a bus with 86k miles on it. The seller wants $425.00 and is 150miles from me. I want to build this van as a highway rig and i am told the 542 is a city driving trans. My question is, will this be a transmission that will work good in a medium duty application? I am not certain what horsepower I have but was thinking it is 175 hp. The stepvan has 14,500 GVWR. Hope you see this and thanks for your help or advice
That is an awesome price. Those combos usually sell north of $3k. I actually have a ISB/MD3060 frame cut listed at $7k The Allison 2000 series is great. Perfect for highway driving, i hope he saved the wiring harness with it.
Thanks for the help explaining to me how to wrap my pipe... 😉🤣
Glad to help!
I rode in a flatnose school bus that had a manual in it. That was back in the 70s. Detroit 2 stroke with what I believe was a 4 speed manual
In the years since this video, I still have not seen one in person. But have seen many videos of flat nose stick shifts! I have also acquired some linkage to make the connection. Pretty cool stuff.
Hi, I hope you see this! I am looking to buy a school bus for my own skoolie conversion. You said you lived on a bus yard. Is that somewhere that sells them? If so can you tell me the business name? And if not do you know of any good places to look for them? Thank you much in advance! Great video BTW, very informative.
ParishSkoolie@gmail.com We have moved on from this yard, but now live on another. I have two buses for sale currently
Lagneauxs is for lunch a place for older folks. I’m 71 and wasn’t impressed. There are much better places to eat in Lafayette and surroundings and I’m sorry you have a big rig. Who cares ? Good restaurants hate busses.
Restaurants reviews & ranks are subjective…this is a family favorite of ours and very biased. Our page is a skoolie page, we attempted to consider parking in our review even tho we visited all these places in a passenger vehicle. Didn’t expect a negative comment from a Coonass, but WHATTAKNOW. I encourage you to drop your local favorites, as we want any one watching to have options!
Can someone tell me what bus would be good for mountain riding?
If you want a bus that can handle mountains, we would suggest focusing on what transmission it has. Find a bus with a MD3060 and you’ll be golden 🙂
What model eaton is that?
FS5205
My first time doing that. I didn't know it was supposed to be wet. It makes sense. And I gave those metal zip ties to a friend. I used bailing wire. Much easier to work with and I tied one about every 3". I think it'll hold up. Even if it's put on dry. Or should i remove it and start over???
Can you share info on where you got the parts and part numbers? I can't thank you enough for all your videos!!! I was stranded in the middle of nowhere when my trans blew(545). Your trans info saved my life! I would've never been able to get out of there without my bus. I live full time on my bus, so that would've left me homeless and destitute. I'm a retired smokejumper, fixed income, as well as a widow with 5 grown children. I don't have much wiggle room or resources when transmission blows. This time, it's a cracked steering tire. I'm heat vulcanizing the tire and putting it back in myself. When I took the wheel off, I noticed the cracked and warped rotor. Thanks to you two and your video, I'll be back on the road soon. 🎉
Unfortunately I do not still have P/N’s for this job. I had to call a bluebird dealer and have them run my VIN as I was quite inexperienced with buses at the time. Thanks for watching, appreciate the kind words. I would start with Bluebird/International/thomas dealers! They should be able to give you the part number then you can order online or fleetpride to save some money
bleeders upside down bro, gonna be hard to get the air out that way. need to swap the calipers from side to side
Thanks for the multiple comments! Others have pointed that out over the years. You are correct, but we’ve done 10k miles like this now with no issues. Even bled the whole system 3k miles ago with fresh fluid, no issues. Hope it doesn’t start now🤞🏼
lol bleeder screw is on the bottom of the caliper, gonna have a hard time getting all the air out my friend
Uhhhh, what if I forgot to soak it in water/ damp it.. ? I already sprayed it two coats now I’m waiting for it to dry/ looking up vids in general again and now I see you had to damp it- I didn’t..
I understand now- I’m at 3:33 in the vid. I should have to keep it tighter. Well we’ll see when it sets I guess lol
You’ll be alright!
Thank you sir!!
Thank you!!
I feel your pain! My genset had a stuck intake valve, bent pushrod. Fixed that then the starter gave out and a piece entered the squirrel cage and shorted out the rotor! Had that thing in and out, assembled and disassembled so many times I’m an expert onan mechanic now lol. Good job!
Just got a 93 flat nose 11 window buss that a church used. Looks very well taken care of. Replaced the batteries and it fired right up. Brake air lines had some trouble with leaking and that’s where I’m at with it presently. It has a 6 cylinder Cat motor. How do you open the front bifold door when it’s closed all the way. I’m currently going through the back emergency door then opening the bifold door from the inside.
Unfortunately there is no other way to open the front door from the outside once closed completely. We added a lock on our front door to be able to secure it. Other people opt to replacing in with a house door.
Thank you, you save me very much money !
We are glad you’ve found value in our video! Thanks for watching Levak 😊
Rust is like a cancer for vehicles, it keeps growing if you don't treat it
We couldn’t agree more!
Amigo soy de panama me.gustaría poder preguntarme muchas cosas , tengo una transmisión allison 545 y no avanza al acelerar ayúdame amigo que podrá ser
Check your fluid, if it smells and dark transmission is probably bad. If it’s too low, it won’t move. If it looks fine, look under the bus while you are in drive. If the driveshaft is spinning and the bus isn’t moving you snapped an axle. Likely scenario on Panama roads.
Where are you guys located I am very interested in buying a bus for you guys bus yard
We are in Houston, no longer at this yard but working for another supplier. Reach out at parishskoolie@gmail.com
Ok you guys are funny for this, ill go ahead and sub..
Thanks mate! Appreciate the support 😄
Love the video
Thanks Caleb! We’re glad you enjoyed the video 😊
