16:12 I believe it’s that you have to land on two wheels, hold it for a whole section of track between jumps, and then land the next jump successfully. At least that’s what I did and I was on a shorter section than you were. Didn’t even know landing on two wheels was possible until this year after years of playing as a kid. Actually harder than driving backwards.

Probably out of all the hotwheels games i had in my childhood that weren't random flash games on their website, this one's aged the worst it seems. This one has really noticible slow/fast rubberbanding on top of generally being a slower, stiffer racing game. They went a little to far to make it feel like controlling toy cars than actual ones. The points stuff really doesnt compensate for the lack of movement/stunts you could do in other hw games, and goals bringing points to the forefront just makes it annoying.

Oh dear the memeories of grinding points are coming back. I can't remember if the ds version also had goals, unlike other mobile ports of hot wheels games this one is actually pretty similar to the home console one, since it stayed 3d.

This game was really fun to play with a friend, especially the battle mode with the arenas which can have a lotta verticality. I forgot how much padding it has tho damn. I had it on my wii and it did have those moments of lag, it didnt bother me too much then somehow

A cheat code being an actual unlockable makes me nostalgic. I remember beating NSMB on the ds and being given a cheat code after beating the game that lets you play as luigi

This game is so oddly divorced from the highway 35 movie in a lot of ways. Still nice as its own thing, if rather padded, but tbh i would've expected this play kinda like that speed racer game i played on wii, racing with combat in the mix using some gadgets like what we see in H35 movie. I did get a Mach 6 and one or 2 other speed racer cars and a track as hot wheels toys way back then that were all based on that speed racer film, so how much of a stretch from hotwheels games is it to suggest trying that speed racer film licensed game? Lol, it does make you kinda replay tracks at higher leagues/classes also tho, maybe if you somehow run out of hotwheels games to go through

I didnt even realize until halfway through this ep that the mini-wheels of power things were literally called "pickups" on the game's loading screen and thats why you called them that. Huh. Also, man the amount of shortcut keys in one track can get wacky.

Its so odd seeing there was a world race game and no voicelines or anything. This game seems to share some dna with stunt track challenge which i did play, mainly some sound effects and a couple mechanics

The rare stuff that keeps happening on streams is so cool. Especially the ai doing surprisingly cool stuff, makes it feel more intense like the intro cutscene

Played the demo version of this back in the day, and somehow got a version of it to run on Windows 10. There was a "Mechanixsw" in the file folder, running that instead of the "MECHANIX" one worked. It has some graphical issues, and the game minimizes for a few seconds while loading at the beginning and ending of races. Probably not good if you're trying to record it, but at least it's an option for anyone wanting to play it without a virtual OS.

from the looks of it, speedruns of this game do look cool. a lot of fun routing and shortcuts all over the place

HWVX, HWWR and HWSTC definitely took inspiration from this game. The Asteroid Belt level looks very similar to Zero Gravity Zone in HWSTC. Also, the X in "Mechanix" looks similar to the X in Velocity X. The game also uses an arrow and the select screen has a light blue background similar to HWVX. And you can drive through water just like in HWVX. Some of the levels in Mechanix also look similar to Monument City and Turbine Sands. This game looks pretty decent. Not the most interesting HW game I've ever seen because it's so short and it lacks characters and a storyline, but I like it. Also, Amy Boylan in the Mechanix credits is mentioned in the HWWR credits as well. The names for the HWWR drivers Toni Berry (Seared Tuner) and Jerry Boylan (Greased Lightning) were inspired by Toni DeBerry and Amy Boylan.
