17:55 speaking of niche hot wheels games, there's this one hotwheels game i remember having that was sort of a "toys-to-life" thing. The game came with this blue controller you had to plug into your computer's usb and on the controller was a slot to insert a car with a connector underneath. It had a grey starter car included but there was only i think 5 or 6 other cars the game could even work with that you had to buy seperate.
It's hilarious how obvious it was that they want you to buy the other cars cuz aside from the first track, each track had a unique short cut only the corresponding car could use, and ignoring that was hard cuz there was always a cpu with the right car that was in the lead because of the shortcut. I think there was some kind of upgrading system for cars cuz winning a track let you unlock the ability for the shortcut you can put on any car. But it was still very annoying, on top of the game being really basic.
I wish i could remember the name, it was kind of a neat novelty that the physical cars still worked on real life hotwheels tracks

For some reason, TH-cam is automatically setting the game title to "Hot Wheels Micro Racers" as you can see. Is TH-cam recognizing that I said that once in the video and setting that as the game? Or is TH-cam using visual AI to identify the gameplay incorrectly? I can't change it, because Hot Wheels: Mechanix doesn't show up on TH-cam as an existing game title.

I’m glad you checked this game out it definitely goes under the radar. Have you played hotwheels bash arena? It would make a great series

Here's a fun fact about this game. If you use paint on a car that is used for a level, like in the credits or on the stage overview, the paint job will actually be shown on the car there. Always loved that detail as a kid. Also that first race photo finish was INSANE

Hot Wheels had a lot of Flash games on their website. If they're archived, maybe you could do a series where you play some of them!

I'll definitely do that in the future. There are quite a few I remember playing. Some were actually pretty decent and they do seem to all be playable with the Wayback Machine.

Also, the Twitter account I currently use was accidentally created because of a Hot Wheels flash game lol. That's why my Twitter account is more than 10 years old, even older than my TH-cam channel.

Part of the issue is these games took a million years to install from even a multispeed cd drive that you had to read the instruction book…

Played the demo version of this back in the day, and somehow got a version of it to run on Windows 10. There was a "Mechanixsw" in the file folder, running that instead of the "MECHANIX" one worked. It has some graphical issues, and the game minimizes for a few seconds while loading at the beginning and ending of races. Probably not good if you're trying to record it, but at least it's an option for anyone wanting to play it without a virtual OS.

HWVX, HWWR and HWSTC definitely took inspiration from this game. The Asteroid Belt level looks very similar to Zero Gravity Zone in HWSTC. Also, the X in "Mechanix" looks similar to the X in Velocity X.
The game also uses an arrow and the select screen has a light blue background similar to HWVX. And you can drive through water just like in HWVX.
Some of the levels in Mechanix also look similar to Monument City and Turbine Sands.
This game looks pretty decent. Not the most interesting HW game I've ever seen because it's so short and it lacks characters and a storyline, but I like it.
Also, Amy Boylan in the Mechanix credits is mentioned in the HWWR credits as well. The names for the HWWR drivers Toni Berry (Seared Tuner) and Jerry Boylan (Greased Lightning) were inspired by Toni DeBerry and Amy Boylan.

Just because it ends with an "X" doesn't mean I'll like it!
I don't think I'm an "RPG Guy"... But a trash Hot Wheels game? Absolutely.
