    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It might not be impossible in a huge vivarium, but I wouldn't recommend it, due to their different temperature and humidity requirement. You'd need to make room for both microclimates There are some cases where small Phelsumas have successfully cohabitated with dart frogs but it's not as safe as widely tried and tested as dart frogs with mourning geckos. In general, there's a saying that "if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't mix species" which probably applies

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Nevermind, I just saw that you wrote thumbnail dart frogs (I was imagining some medium-large dart frog species). I would absolutely not try or recommend that, since the size difference would very likely lead to an incident (the geckos attempting to eat the frogs)

    In the very near future, it's finally time to do another Vivarium Review Livestream, where I'll be reviewing your vivariums! I did this a year ago (the livestream was also edited into two videos, which you can find on my channel) and I'm planning to continue doing it as a New Year's tradition. I haven't decided on what day I'll do the livestream, but most likely around the new year (maybe Dec 30th or Jan 1st). HOW TO PARTICIPATE: - Send some picture of your vivarium(s) to contact.tropical.tutorials@gmail.com - Max 3 pictures in total per person (could be multiple shots of the same tank, or different tanks, maybe also an overview of your frog room). - Mention in the email what species you're keeping in there/will keep in there. - I'm expecting mostly dart frog vivariums, but other animal species are allowed too. - You can expect constructive criticism. - If there is time, I might also take in submissions during the livestream, but your chance of being featured is significantly higher if you submit your pictures in advance. - If I get too many submissions, I can't guarantee that I'll have time to go through all of them.

    If you are from Sweden how do you keep the temperature in your vivarium within the limits? I starting a vivarium myself for the first time but when we are not home the temp is around 16 degrees celius. That would be a problem for my vivarium

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials หลายเดือนก่อน

      My room basically never drops below 19 degrees, and usually stays around 22-26 during the day depending on the time of the year. The vivariums get a tiny bit of spill heat from the lighting (and they also contain some slightly cooler, more humid micro climates in them). 16 degrees seems unusually cold unless you're keeping them in a basement or something. I generally think heating the room is better than heating the individual tank, both because the temperature will be less prone to fluctuations and because you won't get as much condensation on the glass as you would if the outside of the tank is colder than the inside. That said, if you just have to raise it a few degrees, you can use a heat pad or something (but make sure it doesn't overheat; a little too cold is better than a little too hot)

    • @BattleLev
      @BattleLev หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Tropical_Tutorials Thank you for your reply 👍 We heat the house with a fuel oil stove. It is only turned on when we are at home of course so the temp fluctuates quiet a bit. Heating were I live has become very expensive so we are getting solar panels and heat pumps to get a better solid temp in the house at the moment now so hopefully this will give the vivarium a better climate because this is holding me back to start a vivarium.

    • @Tropical_Tutorials

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials หลายเดือนก่อน

      You're totally right. This is an old video, worded quite poorly, and I'm planning to remake it in the near future, but what I usually say (and I said something like that in this video too) is that you should avoid substrate mixes that consist of large portions of sphagnum moss (and/or coco fiber). A bit of it mixed into your substrate can be fine, and it releases some nutrients when it starts breaking down, but if you use a substrate that consists of 50% sphagnum and/or coco fiber, it probably won't be too successful.

    Would be factible to have ranitomeya amazonica and auratus highland bronce together?

    • @Tropical_Tutorials
      @Tropical_Tutorials หลายเดือนก่อน

      It sounds reasonable in a large vivarium. However, I recently kept a holdback leucomelas female with my breeding group of Ranitomeya variabilis (I probably incorrectly call them amazonica in this video, but since 2022 the populations from French Guiana and eastern Brazil belong to variabilis) for about 6 months or so. During that time, I got no viable eggs at all from the variabilis, as they were presumably eaten or destroyed by the leucomelas female (they are notorious egg eaters, which seems to expand to different species eggs as well). I even found some remains of eggs that had been destroyed. As soon as I removed and sold the leucomelas about 2 months ago, I started getting clutches again. I don't think I'll try this combination again for this reason.

      Jag kör mina i 30x30x30 typ första halvåret som jag visar mot slutet av videon. I början kan det räcka med ännu mindre, exempelvis när de är helt nyuppstigna räcker en godislåda eller liknande första veckan, och de kan bo ganska tätbefolkat som små, men sen tycker jag att man behöver mer plats åt dem (minst ca 30-kub de första 6-9 månaderna och sedan gärna större)
