Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide book | The movie bible
Before the Internet, if you wanted to have a quick look at a movie plot/synopsis, with a review and bits of other information, you went to Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide book. That was it. I miss those days.

The Howling - Laserdisc Review | The best werewolf movie ever made
The Howling from 1981. A horror movie Directed by Joe Dante and with effects from a very young (but awesome) Rob Bottin. To me this is the ultimate werewolf movie and it's been a guilty pleasure since I first saw it in the 80s.
Retrotink 4K & Commodore 64 | Scanlines and masks
As a casual retro gamer I'm not religious in my attempts to find masks and scanlines that are 100% authentic to any particular CRT monitor. If I can find a setting that mimics the CRT experience in a satisfying way, to me, that's enough. I got the Retrotink 4K mainly as a scaler for my Laserdisc collection and in that regards it's been a success. It's worked out well for my C64 collection of ga...

Laserdisc, VHS, Beta on a 4K projector with Retrotink 4K. Scanlines, cropping and CRT emulation. How does it work? Let's find out!
The best Peter Pan movie? Hook - Laserdisc review
Hook (1991) by Steven Spielberg, released on Laserdisc in 1992. US version 70606 - Japan version SRLP-5026~7. Both widescreen letterboxed versions with Dolby Surround digital audio as well as an analog CX encoded stereo sound. To me this is the ultimate Peter Pan movie.
Burning DVDs from VHS | DVD is very much alive, even in 2023
In the late 90s and early 2000s we did burn DVDs from VHS. 25 years ago VHS was still used by a lot of people and many had home videos they wanted to watch on DVD. DVD is still the most popular video format and very much alive.
Laserdiscs bought in Japan
During the 80s and 90s you could often get Laserdisc releases in Japan which were unavailable elsewhere. These can command a lot of money, even in 2023. Do you still buy them today?

I bought 40 laserdiscs in a box, unseen - Did I find something nice?
Buying a box of laserdiscs without knowing for sure what you're gonna get, is risky. Maybe not in the US where you can buy laserdiscs quite cheap, but in Norway (Europe) where laserdisc never hit it big, it can be risky. Luckily I found some discs that made it worth my while, and money.
Arcade 1up - is this a big mistake if you really want a real vintage arcade cabinet?
A real vintage Arcade cabinet costs a lot. At least where I live. Not many to choose from either. So I went for one the Arcade 1up cabinets, hoping this would cure the itch. Big mistake! Cheaper to buy yes, but also much cheaper the experience, fun and entertainment. Guess I'm back on the market. The song playing during the build is called "The Kung Fu Arcade" by Espen Kraft and can be found on...
How to get Stranger Things from Netflix to VHS and to a CRT screen - for the ultimate nostalgia
I love to watch VHS, even to this day. I've wanted to watch Stranger Things and other favourite TV-series on my Sony Trinitron, from VHS, for a long time. I'm using a cheap HDMI-to-Scart adapter to do this. It's PAL/NTSC compatible as well.
Will a 40 years old cassette game for the Commodore 64 load in 2023? It's never been opened.
40 years old. Still sealed. A new old stock (NOS) Commodore 64 game on cassette. Let's break it open for the first time ever, and see if it loads up. Fort Apocalypse for the C64, by Synapse. One of the first classic games.
Laserdisc | Still awesome!
Laserdisc really took off in the late 80s and early 90s. Superseded by DVD around 1997, Laserdisc died a few years later. Seemingly. To fans of the format it never really died and Laserdiscs are still spinning strong! The Danish video store where I bought my first player is still going strong. Check it out here: laserdisken.dk/ 00:00 Intro - How I got interested in Laserdisc 01:29 Widescreen - ...
Donkey Kong | Game and Watch from 1982
In 1982 Nintendo released Donkey Kong for the Game & Watch handheld devices. A 2-screen device that was the early version of GameBoy and Nintendo DS. Donkey Kong is also the first time we see Super Mario. It was immensely popular and through hype, just like on TikTok, it became a status thing to have. And.... will a 2023 12-year old kid like and master it today?
Comics - why I still read them
Comics that were read to shreds in the 70s and 80s. Comics lost in time. I recently re-bought a pile of comics I had, and read, 40 years ago. Now it's unboxing day! Batman, Spider-man, Superman, Spirit, Tales from the crypt, the Phantom, Modesty Blaise etc. What are your favourite comic books/magazines from your childhood? 00:00 Intro/history 00:58 The unboxing 01:15 Batman 02:26 The Phantom 03...
