    Wow that's a good deal. $150 for 40 discs means $4 each. Not too bad. These are antiques now and will go up in value. These movies are all good and I paid to see them in theaters back in the day.

    Very nice haul. I need to get some more Laser Discs. One thing I picked up on LD as a nocelty item is a XXX adult film. People think of VHS as the old school format for adult movies. But they were on LD too.
    If your LD player can play CDs you should get some CD video discs. Techmoan has a video on those. They were an attempt to breath new life into LD. But they make no mention of LD or Laser Vision. But the video is LD with CD audio. I have a CD sized CD Video disc with the music video for Living in a Prayer by Bon Jovi. It also has some audio only Bon Jovi songs. It works grat in my Pioneer CLD-D604.

      I did have a nice collection of CD video discs back in the day. Sold them all. In fact I just recently passed on a stack of these. I don't have any interest of music videos on either CD videodiscs or Laserdisc. Movies only. I've come to a point where I have specific interests and I'm not hoarding for the sake of hoarding. ;-) Cheers

    Your question at 10:38 is tautological. I literally never met someone who has seen The Goonies and dislikes it, regardless of his/her age. I think that, despite it hasn't much cult, dedicated fan following as Star Wars (for example), The Goonies beats even that saga as for sheer number of people (not fans) who love it. At least, in my country.
    As for us children of the 80s it will always hold a special place in our hearts. It inspired me a tune, which will be released in my coming EP "A night at the movies" (working title). Thanks for your videos, cheers!

    I own the same LD Cliffhanger which was released by Criterium in CAV format. The audio is fantastic even if we are talking about a Dolby Surround. The CAV format image looks amazing on my Barco Cine 9 CRT. Thank you for your reviews.

I'm sure they could also do 1:1 audio files. It would be ironic if a new type of laser disc was invented for this purpose. Keep it up, and have a nice day!

    There is nothing better than buying a whole box of disc sfrom an old and trustful guy in person. I did this multiple times and besides good talks about the good old LD days, the quality and price is the best I ever got. The single discsI bought from ebay in the last decade are mostly overpriced and never had the quality of an old LD enthusiast from back in the day.

    the Abyss was (I believe) the first THX-certified Laserdisc box set, followed by Aliens and Alien, with extended editions all available for the first time. Sadly we will never see a blu-ray or 4K version of the Abyss thanks to Disney, because of one scene - the rat being submerged in the breathing solution, which it did survive (meanwhile, Ed Harris had to hold his breath in colored water in his diving helmet, so who suffered more, honestly?).

    • @5minutesofretro
      @5minutesofretro  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The UK 4K release is cancelled, but not the US release, so still ways to see this on 4K. Cameron did good to stand up to tyranny, however he's tampered a lot with the colour grade and the release looks very "upscaled" to me and it looks quite artificial.

      @5minutesofretro  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are not "regions" like on a DVD on Laserdiscs, but they come in either PAL or NTSC versions. I have both NTSC players as well as PAL players. PAL versions goes too fast (if it's a US/Jap made movie) so most collectors stay away from them for that. Some PAL titles are cool to collect regardless though as it might have some extra material, uncut versions etc, so I have some for that.

      @@5minutesofretro There is a difference between what is actually needed even though expensive and what is not needed. Vinyal is still the best format when it comes to 2 channel audio specially the analog version. Laser dics are not required as we have reached Atmos and 4k. Not the best format. But yet you do whatever pleases you . That is nostalgic. Expensive or not is not the point .

      Sure, I'm not in it for the money. I'm in it for the nostalgia. Watching movies on laserdisc, on my CRT tv, is the most home-video-fun I know of. It takes me right back to the late 80s and early 90s and all the memories of that time.

    theatrical mixes , so unless you like blu 4k atmos near field mixes with half the dynamic range been tampered with and thrown out the window , i keep those laserdiscs otherwise i can sell mine like die hard AC-3 at £1million i think its worth it , but that will be sheer greedy and that isn't me , others sell laserdiscs at greedy prices so they can buy those worthless dvd blu 4k near field mixes , actually some early dvd had theatrical mixes it wasn't till some maybe rich people moaning there too loud , or they had rubbish speakers that can't reproduce theatrical mixes
    seriously i'd keep them and get some ex used JBL cinema vintage 4673A LCR , you'd be watching laserdisc and buying it for vintage titles , that have those theatrical mixes

    I understand the nostalgia and only this . But, times are changing.... The picture quality of a LD is not muching the 2023 requirements (even against the simple dvd format). As a person having over 100 LD and over of a 1000 dvds, Bds etc, and many many cds & vinyl , my opinion and choice is to stick with the edge of the picture & sound technology modern times offering. Are simpler to use and more reliable . All this vintage stuff …. I don’t know - it seems as trying to give a 2nd commercial life (and an expensive one) to obsolete things. The same is happening with the synths , with the audio Hi-Fi etc. Some times I am looking at my collections (synths included) and feeling skeptical if all these are really worthy the invested time and money . My 25 year old daughter owns nothing but streaming and is very very happy with this. And every time we are watching a movie or hearing music from their streaming devices to my 110‘’ screen or stereo system, we are always exited and pleased, despite the format. I say it again, is not the mean but the content, the mood and the good company.

      I could take the almost new 2022 Volvo to the store (I live at the countryside) to pick up some milk and bread. It'll take me 20 minutes. A pretty non-eventful ride. I could also take the '69 Ford Mustang. It'll take me the same amount of time. It'll make great noise, you'd hear and feel the road and it would use much more gas (electric cars are a disease) and in total time the ride would be a little longer. Which ride would you guess I'd enjoy the most? Sometimes it's not about what's "better". Sometimes it's about the enjoyment, nostalgia and thrill of doing it as it once was.

    • @user-ks5rc5cz4p
      @user-ks5rc5cz4p 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with you. But, things are mooving forward , as we are. A ride into the open with a good car and company is a totaly different thing and experiance , no doubt. I say it again, I understand the nostalgia and the love for anything impressed us in our first youth, mayby were mythival to our younger eyes and mind, because we can not affort them, and now we are very happy having the possibility to hand some of these "mythical" items.... we are filling the gap....! Personaly, looking backwards, I am very pleased that I was a part of this astonishing technology evolution , happening since the 80s and then, bringing us possibilities that was unimaginable and SF for us back then.
