I have been making and designing bobbin lace since 1993 and have been teaching regularly since the the early 2000s.
I learnt to make lace under the tutelage of the internationally renowned lace maker and teacher Pat Read MBE.
My lace specialism is Modern Milanese which is based on traditional Milanese lace braids and techniques but with added Withof and other techniques used and developed to suit my own particular style in this kind of lace.
I hope that you enjoy and find my videos useful. I try to explain and teach through my videos and rather than just demonstrate the techniques I try to explain the mechanics of what I am doing and why as much as possible.
There is no substitute I feel for in person teaching and learning but I hope that my content here will help to bridge the gap where there are no in person classes available.
I am working to add more content to the site so do let me know if there is anything you would like me to add to my list of videos and I will do my best.

Cupcake Part One - Cherry
This video shows how I worked the cherry for my cupcake design. In it I will show you how to start with a false footing, add pairs across the braid, work a scroll turn, working a rolled edge and a tapered roll as well as working sewings.

Thread Twists and Winding Bobbins
มุมมอง 1.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A short video to discuss different thread twists and how the way you wind your lace bobbins and handle the thread affects the twist on your lacemaking threads. I deliberately haven't recommended which direction to wind bobbins as I feel this is personal preference. However I, and I believe the majority of people wind their bobbins clockwise, if you hold the head of the bobbin towards you.

Beautiful work
I love watching bobbin lace videos, but it has never made sense what they were doing, watching your video I GET IT! Granted, I can't DO it, but you are an amazing teacher! I love it! Thank you! 😍😍😍
How much thread do you need on each bobbin?
I appreciate your explanation and demonstration, you’re the first channel I’ve found to do so thoroughly.
Podia traducir al catellano
Crystal clear explanation on the proper mounting of the colors and usage of the ingenious no-color-change edge stich to keep the colors in their proper positions. Utterly insightfull, thank you for sharing your tricks and techniques!
Es ist auf einmal alles so einfach 🥰
das hast du toll erklärt und ich möchte es unbedingt nacharbeiten. Leider funktioniert die Zahlung mit PayPal nicht. Sehr schade:(
If you send me an email to claire@bonitocrafts.co.uk I can send you a paypal invoice that should work for you.
This is amazing.
Thank you for such a great tutorial! I mentioned your site today on my channel. I gave them the link in the description below my video. Thank you!! Hugs, Deb
I am brand new to this, I have been crocheting for 45 years and thought I give this a try, how would I go about getting the pattern, I went to your web page but did not see it, and I am in USA so money is different too. Do you have an Etsy shop by chance?
Hi. Drop me an email at claire@bonitocrafts.co.uk and I can send you details of how to buy from me direct.
I would love to see more videos like this! What kind of lace is this piece?
Hi. This is Hinojosa lace. It’s a Spanish lace.
The patterns don’t make any sense to me, but I love watching and hearing the bobbins as they move around.
I have become fascinated by bobbin lace and I've watched a lot of videos. Yours is so clear and explained so well. I don't know if I'll ever have a chance to actually try this, but I'm subscribing so I know where to find some good information. Thanks!
You mentioned the half stitch spider in the last part of the last video here, but, you skipped it in the last video.. Did you cover it somewhere else, i dont think ive seen a half stitch spider
Hi. I cover half stitch spiders in the small squares 2 of 4 video. Thank you for your question.
We dident hear him sing
Que perfecto , yo tengo que aprender MUCHOOÓO 😂🎉😊❤
Gracias , gracias x enseñarnos . Profesora te seguiré siempre 🎉😊😅.
Good morning, I would like to know where I can buy this kind of tweezers. Thank you for your fantastic explanations Rosario
Hi where can I find the pattern please
This is from the Idrija ‘Bits of lace 2’ book that is available from www.roseground.com in the UK I believe.
That way was so easy!!!!!
Thank you for this video. It has made making this seagull a lot easier. This is my first Maltese/whithof piece so I have learnt a lot! 😂
Outstanding!
You are a very good teacher. Excellent explanations and so easy to follow. Thank you for making these patterns fun to do.
😂😂 the crowley glasses 🎉🎉
You have a beautiful voice and you really explain well! You made lace making seem reachable. Thank you for sharing your diy!
Grazie Mille per queto bellissimo video , molto interessante 🙏🧡
How can I Get the pattern??
This is from the Idrija ‘Bits of lace 2’ book that is available from www.roseground.com in the UK I believe.
This is mesmerizing. It also gives perspective to the amount of skill and artistry that goes into making lace. (I thought of Mr Bennet in Pride and Prejudice scolding Mrs Bennett about talking about lace on someones dress.)
ooooh this is so useful! thank you so much!
I have made square pieces of lace in the past but have always found the sewings very difficult so of late have tended not to do them. I have found your videos so helpful I feel confident enough to try again. I cannot thank you enough for your clear explanations and your useful tips, I have never seen anyone using a 'magic' thread before, I shall certainly be employing this technique. Thank you once again.
I think the older ways handmade lace is extremely beautiful ❤️ anywho y'all have a blessed day and night ❤️.
Idk why the ASMR community didn’t pick up on these video. I like listening to the bobbins 😂. Maby if you title them asmr and just make a video of you making these, maby it will get more exposure. I hope this art never goes extinct.
Because this actually takes talent and skill and would require they learn how to do something other than obnoxiously chew a fake ear on camera or tapping their nails 10k times too much… The only other option are for the videos to be eaten up by the unintentional asmr channels that just repost shit and steal views.
J adore ❤
Hello, wonderful work, I am very interested in buying the pattern, please tell me where can I pay for it? My email is madelcarmen.arcega@gmail.com
Beautiful
I want to learn Milanes!e but I can’t find any videos that are in English and slow enough so I can follow. I learn better from watching and not reading. I just found your video. It looks easy enough but my hearing isn’t the greatest. Is there videos or a book that can help me learn? I have several years of lace under my belt but I would love to learn Milanese and Honiton. I do however have on book “An introduction to Milanese Lace”by Pat Read. Is that a good beginner book? I hope I can find the rest of your videos on the angel. My teacher had to give up teaching and there is no one around me to teach. The closest is about75 miles away. So far I’m loving your video.
Hi there. The Pat Read Introduction booklet is very good and pretty clear. Also. If you struggle to hear the videos I’m not sure if you know that you can turn on subtitles for the videos. There is a little symbol with CC on it for closed captions. If you click or tap on that then it will bring up subtitles for you.
I just watched your video on the dragon fly and I’d like to order it but I don’t know how to pay for it because of the rate exchange from US dollars to £’s or the shipping from England to the USA. The dragonfly is beautiful by the way. Could you please explain because if I can afford it I would like to buy others besides the dragonfly
@jackiesnowflake2255 hi. Drop me an email to claire@bonitocrafts.co.uk and I can send you all the information you need to buy direct from me. Alternatively. All my designs can be purchased from www.roseground.com and they shop worldwide. Find my pattern packs in the patterns and kits section on their website in the Claire Bonito Milanese and More section. Thank you for your interest in my work.

Thankyou for this tutorial, I found it easy to follow.
Thankyou for taking time to explain how to select the worker pair of bobbin.Bu as I understood , the workers change after one complete row.Am I right?❤
The worker will stay the same for the whole shape in cloth stitch and the leading thread of the worker will stay the same throughout a shape in half stitch.
Just curious, what do you do with all those bobbin full of thread
I tend to wind my bobbins full as I am usually making multiple pieces with the same thread so for the next piece I will just wind some off the full bobbins to second empty ones to make new pairs.
Your work is very interesting. I am from Malta and our work is a bit different from your work. I would like to do this motives petterns.
Most of my work is different to this piece. This is Idrija Lace from Slovenia. If you search for the Idrija Lace school you will find they sell Books and patterns.
Fascinating. Friend in Germany showed me the basics and my finished bookmark is loopy but I love it. That was in 2010...and I never used my bobbins since Germany. But I'm proud that I finally did a bit of bobbin lace, with the patience of dear friend Jutta. Thank you for making these videos and the roller one. Love!
