The actual comic series that followed this went off in a dark direction that I wasn't really into. I would have loved more stuff where it feels like an episode but you can do more with it and get artists with some real punch and style for it. I can easily imagine an 80s themed line that's J. Scott on Thundercats, Ed Mcguinness on He-Man, and maybe I don't know, Joe Mad on Voltron? Granted the schedules for these books would probably be terrible but man they'd look cool when they finally hit the stands.

Sign me up for that Thundercats series! When did this whole “Cover Artist” eve become a thing? I’m so sick of them not doing any interior work… I remember Artist in the 90’s did everything besides print the damn book!

Regardless of how he dos the art, it's just boring. It reminds me of AI comics, its just a bunch of stiff bodies, or mostly just head shots and busts. People just standing/laying around. Zero energy, Boring AF.

Did you see the He-Man / Thundrecats crossover book? It felt like it was scripted based directly on the shows. Very well done.

At one point back in 1986 I had every episode of Thundercats to that point recorded on Betamax tapes...lol. He sure does make Cheetara and Mumm-Ra look cool. I have a few of the new Thundercats series on digital and I hate how they make Tigra look much older with the "mutton chops". All in all I still like your Masters End Lion-O version better!

I have had this book since it came out and I love it, just as you say the combination of Campbell's art and the coloring is perfect, every time I read it or look at it it's like I'm watching the animated series.

Nah, I like J Scott Campbell as much as the next guy, and I ❤️ Thundercats. But I ain't feeling this. As Randy from American Idol would say "that's a no from me dawg."

Little off topic but have you ever read deadworld? The original issues illustrated by vincent locke have some really good black and white art. The series seems to have lost his way a bit after he left but I think the concept is still cool and I haven’t read all of the new stuff yet so I can’t completely say but those early issues were pretty cool.

It's too bad J Scott Campbell found a nice spot in just doing covers for the majority of his career, I would have loved seeing him do more full books.

I love squirrel girl, funnily enough learning about her is what got me reading comics although I was very disappointed when I learned that she wasn't much of a reoccurring character lol

I recently discovered that Ditko did some Go Bots storybooks that I had from when I was a kid. Crazy.

"I never was into DC comics." That automatically disqualifies you from having any ground to stand on when judging their books. Sorry dude.

Thanks for this, I had this as apart of my doomed to be sold without my permission first collection and I understood the history of Ditko but I thought it was mostly lip service looking at his work. I only picked it up because of the Larsen Wolverine, yes I got a couple issues from 2016 squirrel girl in a large lot I bought recently. We’re the same age incidentally.

the new Glory was a pretty incredible run, issue 33 is one of my all-time favorite comic covers, it's super dope

My favorite period of Steve Ditko's work spans from about 1958 -1973 or so. Anything past the late 70s starts to get a little "iffy" in quality both in terms of concept and execution.

I'm impressed with the way Ditko's inked Iron Man on this story. It's much more of a slick, Bob Layton sort of look than we normally would get from him. I also think the layouts are really pretty good considering how much story content they're trying to cram into so few pages. It's just too bad the story and that character are so unbelievably dumb.

I remember that Lee/Portacio comment in Wizard, it was madness. My first Uncanny X-Men was by Portacio, I've never mistaken anyone's art for his, or his for anyone's. I like the visual of Beast, like George Perez and Rob Liefeld's Beasts had a baby at Art Adams' house. I don't mind that Larsen says his piece, but you don't have to own everything someone thinks to be objective about art anyway. Beast is my favorite superhero, so sorry for the lack of citation, but I am going from memory, and would characterize Beast and Spider-Man's relationship roughly as follows for anyone interested enough to search: Spidey and Beast met first during the original X-Men run in an issue guest starring Spider-Man that was openly confrontational but irons out, and Beast was the guest sometimes in Spider-Man's Marvel Team Up issues, I think they fought Professor Power on the same occasion Hank 'came out' as a mutant to his parents. They don't hang out a ton, the friendship is mostly implied, but the acquaintance is not totally superficial. The original X-Men fight Professor Power with Spider-Man in the 90s by Buscema, it is beautiful, in a sequel to that. There was a Spider-Man/Beast newspaper comic strip entitled 'Mutant Agenda', possibly as a nod to the issue reviewed here, that was adapted with the addition of the rest of the X-Men for the 90s Spider-Man cartoon. They both vibe, and then are like 'Why don't we hang out more?' is the usual dynamic. Eternal Gripe: Given that each has unique advantages, Beast having an edge in ridiculous supergenius, and Spidey having near-unbreakable webs and precog reflexes, power-scale wise, their strength and agility should be all but equal depending on what the editors are up to that day. The webs are the major edge, being even smarter than brilliant Peter isn't going to sway most slugfests, and Spidey's danger sense would be rendered almost negligible by Beast's also superhuman reflexes. Beast has prehensile feet, Spider-Man sticks to walls. Beast has animal senses, Spidey has special lenses and lights. These two are ridiculously even. I can't see these two characters facing the same opponent in a random encounter ending very differently in most cases. Yet Beast got curb stomped a lot here. A lot. A lawt. He beat up Frenzy, (50 ton class, bulletproof) and destroyed a street with the shockwaves of one punch just to show off, at the power level he was allegedly at in this Spider-Man issue, in X-Factor v1 #33. I could go on, but at least I can chalk up the fact that he shook off being beaten unconscious several times as a writer remembering his healing factor that predates Wolverine. Despite this being Pete's title, Hank got old school Worfed. Still a great ish overall.

Bro, you have no idea what you are talking about. Panel one of the right page at 16:10 is THREE POINT PERSPECTIVE. Read "How to Draw Comics The Marvel Way" by Stan Lee and John Buscema. Try making one whole amateur comic yourself before vomiting up nonsense.

I don't have these issues, but I think I spied a collected edition a few years back. I've been a fan of female bodybuilders since the late '70s, so women like this don't bother me. I'm not so forgiving of the tremendous changes to the storyline, though. That sword of hers is very cool.
