    I agree with what y'all are saying. As much as I love both the Nolan movies and the Matt Reaves stuff, I am ready to see the full DC universe characters and their interactions. After watching the animated stuff like the DCAMU or Young Justice, there is a massive library of characters we have never seen in live action movies.

    Thanks to Adam, Hector and Agustin! 🐧 As far as grounded takes on superheroes... not everything is for everyone. I appreciate both the fantastic as well as the realistic. If THE BATMAN (2022) and THE PENGUIN (2024) aren't for you, that's fine. But understand it does fill a niche. Many will adore it. 🔸 Since y'all mentioned James Earl Jones... if anyone hasn't seen him in FIELD OF DREAMS (1989), make a point of doing so. While many nerds wrote it off as a sports movie, it's not really. Baseball is a backdrop, but it's about people and has a strong fantasy element that most respond to. Watch it to commemorate Mr. Jones. ✨

    These type of topics always remind me of watching Superman Returns with Brandon Routh, in theaters. When the bullet shatters as it hits Superman’s eye, the stranger next to me said “yeah right”. So a humanoid alien with super powers is believable…. But bullet in the eye??? Let’s pump the breaks. 😂😂😂

    Agree with Agustin. The sincerity and effort Matt Reeves puts in is all that matters. The worst thing to happen to Comic Book movies has been directors for hire imo. If directors have vision and sincerity, then that's what I want to see as opposed to just "faithful" adaptations.

    The first two episodes of Agatha All Along is how you elevate comic book stories right. I don’t know if Agatha will stick the landing, but the debut is one of the craziest things that Marvel has done and it’s basically more of an witch story than a Marvel one that I’m absolute stunned Jac Schaeffer pulled it off. I’m open to The Penguin, but I cannot stand grounded takes of superheroes either. FWIW, I’m giving The Penguin a shot, but I will never watch Joker 2 just like I don’t see Sony’s Spider-Man villain films.

    You've kinda missed the point of Batman if you say "I'm tired of the grounded takes on superheroes" ... Sure, maybe with other superheroes, but Batman was designed in response to Superman to make a grounded superhero. That's what sets him apart. That's why he doesn't have any powers. So comparing it to the Infinity Saga like you did is silly because Batman isn't supposed to be like those characters. The whole point of him is that he is a more grounded superhero. That's why he's so successful, is that people can buy it and relate to it. Also, the very act of taking a comic book and adapting it to live action is inherently trying to take a drawing and make it real. And I'm sorry, but if you compare The Batman and Infinity War, one is actually a great movie, and the other is just a bunch of gobbledygook for children. Guys flying around and fighting each other with their magical powers is just noise and it's boring. I don't care about Thanos because I can't take a big purple alien that looks that stupid seriously. But when you have this broken character that you ground in a detective story about having to take the law into your own hands because of corruption, and get into real looking fights that have a sense of danger and weight, I can buy into that and engage with that. Zack Snyder gave you your fantasy Batman and it sucked, I'm sorry.

      I don’t agree with bashing the Infinity Saga but I do think there is a place for grounded takes. That’s why James Gunn will have a fun in-universe Batman and Matt Reeves will have his own separate take.

    • @GurinderJohal
      @GurinderJohal 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well he expressed his opinion, you expressed yours, I will say calling Infinity War gobbledygook is a bit weird. For you to elevate The Batman you have to bash and be negative about something else. For me I love Infinity War, I got to see tons of characters I grew up seeing in comics on a big screen. I also liked The Batman, but it’s very long movie and hence draining to continue to be engaged. There’s things that are great bout this version of Batman, but like Hector has said, it feels like Matt Reeves essentially took Batman and fit him into a movie he wanted to make which there’s nothing wrong with. However, like Hector, I want to see a GOOD Batman done where he faces these guys with random weird powers and interacts with the Justice League, Snyder Batman was an okay attempt at that but poorly done.

      @@GurinderJohal So basically you want an "Avenger" in a bat costume. I guess I just don't understand your tastes. I read some comics when I was a kid, but I wouldn't say I was ever a comic book geek. However, I am a movie guy, and I like comic book characters because I grew up watching Tim Burton's Batman, Richard Donner's Superman, and Raimi's Spider-Man. And I love those characters because those were great movies, which made me care about the characters. With a movie like "Infinity War," it works the opposite. All the love that film gets is for people who saw they love seeing characters from the comic on the big screen. But if you didn't read those comics, I couldn't see how you could enjoy it, because that's the only appeal. It's not like there's some masterful "Chinatown/Klute/All The Presidents Men" level story telling going on, like there is in the Batman. It's just a bunch of guys in different costumes shooting magic at each other for 3 hours. So I don't want to see Batman become that. I like that he's grounded in a world I relate to, and weirdly, that makes it even more fantastical because you're being taken into a fantasy world that is actually believable and serious. Like let's be real - Nolan and Reeves' takes on Batman are grounded in reality, but they are still fantasy. It's just believable fantasy, and appeals more to adults because telling a real story is the focus rather than on flying wizards and whatnot.

    I loved the characters and the acting in The Acolyte, but the "mystery" didn't really feel like a mystery at all - maybe my expectations were wrong as to what the series was going to be. But it's the first SW Disney+ show that I kind of forgot was going on - so instead of basically watching every episode the second they were released I was reminded every week and went "oh yeah, that show has a new episode out". Maybe I'm just not the target age, or there actually was something off with the writing and structure of the show. All that to say, it's a shame they didn't get a second season - because more Star Wars (even if it isn't for me) is a positive, since it's somebody's favorite Star Wars and what gets them into it.

    Some great points made here about The Acolyte, and I'm glad you all enjoyed the show, but I think you were too dismissive of the viewership it got and didn't actually check the numbers. It didn't do "just fine" or not much worse than other SW shows, it started out strong with the first few episodes...and then views took a nosedive to the point where it was never in the top 10 again until the finale, where it only got to #10. It's totally fine to like this show, I wish I did, and I'm glad that there are youtubers like you guys out there to push back against the "anti-woke" bigots that hate everything, but a lot of us just thought it was a poorly written show, and if so much of the audience felt that way enough to the point that they stopped watching, maybe its for the best if it doesn't continue. Maybe a second season could improve! But this isn't a $30 million show on cable in 2005, it's a $180 million show on streaming in 2024. For better or worse, todays model only gives you one shot to win over the audience.

Granted, I hated the Acolyte with every fiber of my being ($180 million dollar turd with unlikeable characters and randomly changing character motivations, horrendous dialogue and writing), but I am genuinely sorry for those that enjoyed the show. I gave it a chance, it had terrible plummeting viewership after the first few eps, guys. Not enough people watched the show overall to call it a success. Let’s not shield the show’s terrible execution of half-baked ideas by ranting about the racist minority of internet losers. This show failed because it wasn’t good and people bailed.

    I thoroughly enjoyed ALIEN: ROMULUS... It was TERRIFIC... and I say this a 1st generation ALIEN fan of 45 years... Producer Ridley Scott and co-writer/director Fede Alvarez have delivered a knock-out punch with ALIEN: ROMULUS, an unabashed love letter to the entire ALIEN fiim series, yet at the same time, a wholly satisfying stand-alone effort as well... It is a more than welcome addition to the lore of the ALIEN saga... I LOVED IT! ALIEN: ROMULUS is a very thrilling and engaging film... Director Alvarez (who I was totally unfamiliar with) was an excellent choice to helm this film.. His visual aesthetic fit hand-in-glove with the styles that Scott, Cameron, and Fincher brought to their films... The movie has more than its share of tense and exciting "soon-to-be classic" set-pieces... The dynamic character relationship between Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and Andy (David Jonsson) was a highlight, giving the film's narrative the emotional anchor that it needed to warrant my investment in the story... Both actors (who I had also never heard of before) are great, and you really care for their characters... The production design and cinematography is impeccable, and the music score is very effective as well... The practical effects are fantastic, as are the CGI elements (and unlike some, I thought that the SFX execution of Ian Holm as Rook was excellent, and a welcome addition to the plot)... And as a fan of the ALIEN Prequels, I was so thrilled to have this film connect to them. All in all, ALIEN: ROMULUS was a winner all the way, and it reminded me of EXACTLY why I love this series SO much. Here is my ranking of the 9 ALIEN films... The Top Tier (the Holy Grails of the series)... #1. ALIEN (10//10) #2. ALIENS (10/10) ALIEN and ALIENS are both true cinematic CLASSICS ... They will ALWAYS be the absolute best ALIEN films (I think ALL fans of this series believe that)... The first is the ULTIMATE Sci-fi "monster in a haunted house" movie, and the second is the ULTIMATE Sci-fi "war-action" movie... However, of the two, as good as Cameron's entry is, Ridley Scott's 1979 film ALIEN will ALWAYS take the #1 spot. ALIEN is simply one of the GREATEST movies EVER made. It is PERFECT...It is ICONIC... It's a MASTERPIECE. The Middle Tier. (and a very IMPRESSIVE Middle Tier, at that).. #3. ALIEN 3 (9/10) #4. ALIEN: COVENANT (9/10) #5. PROMETHEUS (9/10) #6. ALIEN: ROMULUS (9/10) ALIEN 3, PROMETHEUS, COVENANT, and ROMULUS are all AMAZING as well... Even if NONE of them capture the original BRILLIANCE and ORIGINALITY of the first two, they DO come SO VERY close, and ARE all "Damn Good" movies... They are equally good for DIFFERENT reasons, each adding richer depth and nuance to the lore of the series... It's hard to decide, but as of THIS moment, I've given them this ranking (which IS interchangeable). The Bottom Tier (true misfires)... #7. ALIEN RESURRECTION (5/10) RESURRECTION is a BIG disappointment compared to the first three and last three stellar films of the series... Although the story is interesting, and there are things in it that I DO enjoy very much, the dialogue, acting, and direction (more often than not) is unfortunately "so dumbed-down" that it seems like a cheesy Cannon film from the "80's... That misguided tone definitely HURTS it.... BUT, it IS a "masterpiece" compared to the rest, which are SO BAD that I will break down this tier to an even LOWER level.... The "BELOW Bottom" Tier (we're talking "basement-level" here, folks)... #8. ALIEN VS PREDATOR (0/10) #9. ALIEN VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM (0/10) I don't even acknowledge ALIEN VS PREDATOR and ALIEN VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM... As far as I'm concerned, these films don't even exist... Both are bombs and TOTAL GARBAGE... I hope that both films get attacked by facehuggers and that xenomorphs explode from inside them... I first saw the original ALIEN in the theatre in 1979 when I was 12-years-old... In fact, it was the VERY FIRST R-Rated film that I EVER SAW in a movie theatre... I had to literally FIGHT with my mother and father to get ONE of them to take me to see it... I put up SUCH a temper tantrum that they eventually caved in... My father lost the coin toss, so HE took me... During the now-classic ultra-violent chestburster death scene of John Hurt, my father turned to me, worried about the well-being of his son, and asked me if I wanted to leave... "SHUT UP, DAD... LEAVE ME ALONE!", I angerly whispered back annoyingly under my breath, "I'M WATCHING THE MOVIE!"... Yes, it WAS scaring the hell out of me... But I was ALSO absolutely LOVING it... So we stayed... and that day I saw a cinematic CLASSIC. I was TOTALLY TRANSFORMED by what I was seeing up there on the screen as I sat there in the darkness. I had NEVER seen ANYTHING like that before. It blew me away... Sigourney Weaver's Ripley joined other recent film heroes of mine, like Luke, Leia, & Han, The Man of Steel, James Bond 007, and Kirk & Spock, as a new favorite... But most importantly, just as 1977's STAR WARS, 1978's SUPERMAN, 1979's MOONRAKER, and 1979's STAR TREK had ALSO done, 1979's ALIEN absolutely CHANGED my life... This young 10-12 year old was FINALLY getting to see TRULY GREAT filmmaking made by TRULY VISIONARY master craftsmen and artists... Not cheap, juvenile GUTTER TRASH like "The Apple Dumpling Gang" and "Petes Dragon" ("Ughhh!... How did I survive that rubbish?")... Not to mention the fact that ALIEN had the honor of being one of the very first films to introduce me to the amazing musical genius of the great Jerry Goldsmith! An amusing side note: When ALIENS came out in 1986, I was 19-years-old, and had a job as the Assistant Manager at my local movie theatre... Well, I can not tell you HOW MANY NIGHTS that, AFTER the theatre was closed for the night, my friends and I would have... ehem... "private midnight screenings" of ALIENS... Good times! This has been an AMAZING week... I NEVER dreamed way back then in 1979 that... 45 YEARS LATER... I would STILL be going to see brand new ALIEN films... AND... with Ridley Scott STILL serving as director and/or producer... How COOL is THAT?!? They say that in space, no one can hear you scream... But that won't stop me from screaming out my love for ALIEN: ROMULUS... To all those involved, I scream out... "THANK YOU and BRAVO!"

I apologize for excluding the thousands to millions including myself, who watched it. That being said, this era of streaming is a direct causation of why these studios are abandoning shows.
