As someone who was born here, I have to say, it is more conservative than liberal. I'm 60 now. When I was in the military, I was stationed in very conservative states that had more of a homeless population and higher crime than Boise. And that was during the Reagan administration.

I am an Idaho native born and raised. That being said, Ive been trying to move away from this state for years! There is absolutely NOTHING in this state that would make me move here if I wasn't born here. I cannot justify the cost of housing here, the average home being 450k. I wouldn't even spend 200k on a house here! The minimum wage is still 7.35/hr but the rent is 2k average. There are better places to live with more attainable housing and better wages. Idaho sucks

I agree with your partner about the model homes with Toll Brothers. It irritates me so much that I won’t buy a Toll Brothers home is because I feel anytime you walk through the model home that is not anywhere close to the real home they offer! Totally bait and switch!

The population of Lewiston, Idaho sucks it never grows like other cities in Idaho. And it's controlled by liberals.

Just to be clear, there’s a huge chunk of Californians that are leaving because they’re sick of LA and the Bay Area voting for all of us. You’d be surprised to find out how many californians share political views with other states residents.

As for transplants bringing their politics with them, The fact is most of those leaving the blue coastal cities for red areas like Idaho are actually on average more conservative than the locals born and raised in Idaho. The leftist politics of those places they are leaving is usually the biggest reason for why they are leaving to be with more like-minded people. So most likely that new neighbor from WA or OR or even CA is probably at least as conservative as you and your friends, if not more so. They aren't the ones that turned those places into the liberal hellscapes they are. I've seen stats on this and over recent years of this migration most of the areas receiving most of these transplants are seeing a shift to the right in voting trends. IOW, they are making Idaho MORE conservative.

The neighborhoods of Boise run the spectrum of liberal to conservative. Was perfectly illustrated during covid and mask participation. Go to a grocery store in one part of town and everyone masked, masked people walking alone on a sidewalk. Go to another part of town and maybe 10% mask wearers. North end.....very liberal. University district, Bench, downtown, also liberal. Foothills, Highlands, SW Boise, Western Garden City, fairly conservative.

Hey! I have a suggestion for a video! So my wife and I are planning on moving to Idaho (we love it there) but we have a newborn so we can’t really do a scouting trip ourselves so we’re going to be staying in an apartment for the 1st year or so to recover some saving since we current live in Irvine, Ca and it’s obviously very expensive over here… but I’ve been looking everywhere for an in-depth video for newer luxury apartments in Meridian/Boise area so my wife can enjoy the amenities with our baby while we save but there’s no good videos besides one older one I saw from a Boise local! But nothing else on tik tok or TH-cam and online pictures are very limited because a lot of the apartments are so new they don’t even show up on google street maps! But maybe creating a video kinda reviewing some apartments in Meridian and Boise for family’s like mine that can’t do a scouting trip or buy a property site unseen but know they want to get over there first before moving into a home!

I live in Lewiston, and I'll shoot you straight. winter are less harsh, but summers are brutal consecutive 100+ degree days from June even through September is the norm. The housing market is much higher than the earning potential. unless you are making over 150k a year home ownership is unlikely. there is less traffic, but during peak hours the main roadways can become slow and congested. The mountainous regions are an hour away not 20 minutes. there is a smell that comes from one of 2 places 1. the composting plant, and 2 the wastewater treatment plant. most people believe it's the mill, but the towns wastewater treatment plant is adjacent to the mill, and that is what gives of the smell. I'd say the biggest con is that Lewiston is located downwind from nuclear testing facilities in Washington, and there are higher rates of cancer that reflect this. This town is quite republican. Open carry of firearms, and stories of hunting, and shooting guns is the norm not the exception. In fact Nez Perce County has one of the highest rates of gun ownership per capita. This is stigma against Californians especially due to differing politics, and a significant migration of them driving up home prices and creating traffic when there used to be absolutely none. In my experience most just wish to live lives away from chaos with a bit more freedom to do as they please, and don't we all? Finally, women's reproductive rights are horrible, there is a drug problem of meth and fentanyl, and there is a problem of homelessness that has only increased. If you can tolerate heat, and have enough existing wealth it is probably a decent place to move. If don't have existing wealth and are just starting out in life, or are trying to grow a family, and career there are better locations.

As a lifelong resident of rural western Idaho, Northern Idaho, and now Boise, I can say with certainty - Californian implants are far far to the right of those of us who grew up here. Most are wealthy land/business owners in agriculture that do exactly to Idaho what they claim, "the libs," are doing to California - Bringing big money and overwriting local culture.

Also keep in mind guns. I don't mind since I'm a conservative and I carry everywhere I go, but everyone is carrying. Even in places like the Boise Towne Square Mall which is technically a gun free zone, most of the time there are people in the mall carrying a firearm. Also if you're not a conservative you're not going to fit in well here. Most people in the state will shun you if you are a democrat.
