Great video. Were your hands not frozen?
@@thomasshafe thanks pal. Not really. It wasn't until I got to the top that I felt properly cold. Thats when I put my coat on. Great day out
Beautiful video 😍
@@maxinebriggs8102 thanks so much Maxine. Its an easy wee walk but it's a special spot. Beloved by many a Mourne walker.
@walkwatchers it is beautiful defo 👍😎😍
Done this yesterday 🫣🫣 i thoght i was going to be living on slieve foye for the rest of my life, followed the red way markers up & that was horrendous, my fear of heights didny help & i thought that was the only way up & down, there's no way i cuda got back down that alive 🫣🫣 Really was afraid for my life Then my partner got us down the right hand side (decending it) & it was like just being out walking in fields (well with some bogs on way down - wasn't complaining about them for a change) 🤣 Typical too i got zero views as the clouds came in we were near the top, usual story 😂
@@maxinebriggs8102 oh no maxine!!!!!!!! Im sorry it was such a traumatic day! But good on ya for pushing through and thank goodness for your partner getting you back down.
@walkwatchers thank goodness is right 🤣🤣🙈🙈 I can laugh now but it wasn't funny at the time 😢🥺😂
@@maxinebriggs8102 well done for persevering and getting it done. And hey you have now completed the red route on Slieve Foye!
@@walkwatchers lol I have alright 😂😂🙈 I was for just living up there 🤷😂😂

Great video!
@@SteffenVadla thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching
Nice video Alyn, you could tell you were chuffed with what you found up there. Amazing.
@@patrickobrien8902 was so good. Great walk and super experience.
thanks for the video, think ill wait until its been a dry week before I try this, that ground looks like ideal quagmire material after a wet week
@@progtom7585 it certainly was in places. I tried as much as possible to stick to the tracks and if they were messy then onto the snow. Was a brilliant experience though. Hope you get out soon. Thanks so much much for watchin
Nice up there in the granite!
Soooo good Tony. Feels like home
Lovely 😍😎👌
@@maxinebriggs8102 Glad you enjoyed the spectacle. So beautiful this time of year

@maxinebriggs8102 this has been a great winter in the mountains. Its been so good to experience the snow up there again. Brilliant
@@walkwatchers glad ur making the most of it all 😎👌
Nice video. Captured the vibe very well. I like these type of vids, mate.
@@footslogger_ni thanks pal. I like doin something a wee bit different every now and again. Really chuffed you enjoyed it.
@@walkwatchers very dramatic place. Love it. Maybe one day we'll bump into each other. I've bumped into Geoff Greenaway Outdoors a few times, but man, he practically lives up there! 🤣 I think the sheep know him and his bro, the Sherpa.
@footslogger_ni ha ha ha. This is true. Hopefully I'll see you on the trail soon pal.
Hi Alyn. Alistair here, Tom’s dad. Great to meet you and to see the video. Tom and I had a great day. 45 mph winds on Meelmore, poor visibility and freezing temperatures, but that’s what it’s all about. Took Tom off the mountains in the dark with head torches…memories! An adventure and much better than summer. We hope you enjoyed your day and love the channel. Thank you 👍
@@AJ-vn5sq Amazing!!!!!!!!! Aw Alistair, thats fabulous! Brilliant. Glad you guys had such a great day. What an adventure. It was such a great day and I have been thinking about you guys since I got back. Your car was the only one left in the carpark after I left and I hoped you'd have a great adventure. Thanks for stopping to chat- it was so good to meet you both. Hopefully we'll see each other on the trails again.
Really nice video and atmosphere 👍🙂
@@stigfloberghagenphotography Thanks Stiglitz. Im so glad you enjoyed it. The mountains are so beautiful at the minute
@walkwatchers 👍🙂
Stunning Alyn 👌
@@pipandbenji Thanks so much. I really appreciate that. Something a wee bit different.
While I've missed the last 3 opportunities with the snow and I can well imagine the dangers, it does look magical.
@@thomasshafe It really is Thomas. Its a whole other world and loads of fun. Just gotnto be handled with care.
Just down from Donard last night 12 Jan 25. There was an Igloo built on top by someone, brilliant. There was in places against the wall 7ft snow drifts down to bloody bridge route. Wind chill was serious on summit so only time for bite eat then down again. The mess of beer bottles and sandwiches wrappings was a disgrace. Picked up what I could but people stop dumping on our hills. You don't deserve to be up there if you do.
Aw man!!!!! I simply cannot understand people who leave their rubbish on a mountain. It is the most selfish act. There is no other way for that trash to get off the mountain unless someone else lifts it and brings it down! "I can't be bothered so I'll leave it here for someone else to lift". This is the greatest act of disrespect of the place and other people. I totally agree- They don't deserve to be up there. It's a sign that they use the mountain simply for the challenge and have no concept of the specialness of the place and/or the community of folk who enjoy the habitat and landscape. It is a simple sign of how much they value the place i.e. not at all, but at least they got their insta story. I'm so glad you got up though and experienced the awesome weather we're having. So cool that someone was able to build an igloo from all the snow too. 7ft drifts has got to top the wall in places surely?
Fair play Alyn. Looks like you were loving it. Were they the tracks of the mountain rescue jeep practice on your way down. We had a bit of a week of it down here too. Saw the Galtys and Knockmealdowns today while out driving and they looked unreal.
@@patrickobrien8902 I really did love it Pat. Super walk in stunning scenery. Spectacular. Yeah those were the tracks left by MMR on the way back down. The lower part of the trail was definitely slushy and by the time I was coming back it was practically standing water. A really fun day out. Im sure the Galtees and Knockmealdowns are amazing dressed in snow!
Class Alyn 👌 Pretty wild but it's good to get out and challenge yourself in difficult conditions every now and again 💪 Good to test your gear too 😊 I managed to catch the last of the snow in the Sperrins today with a trip to Banagher Glen and Forest.....
@@niallharran Its just so beautiful atm Niall! Any excuse to get out and get into the mountains. Glad you were able to get up into the Sperrin. Im sure the snow was pretty deep there too. Banagher Glen is a super spot
@@walkwatchers probably pretty deep up on the hills but I wasn't over 370m so very manageable 👌
Wonderful!!
@@ChaiWhisky Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
Even monochrome the beauty is still there. Great to see and thanks for sharing. Many years ago we climbed Rocky in thigh deep snow, Flossie our last Retriever had the extra legs to be steady on The Wall. She came off the hill with what can only be described as ice maltesers stuck to her chest!! D had to massage her to get her moving well again such was her exertion and we weren’t far behind. One of our best hiking memories
@@robertmccrea1957 its such a different experience Robert. So good. Im a bit jealous the dog got a massage after her hike. I might need to seek out such a service post walkwatchers filming ha ha ha. The hike is completely different in the snow- as you know- the landscape completely different because what was familiar has been rubbed out. But the beauty is undeniable . Glad you enjoyed it.
You took the words right out of my mouth-the sounds of winter are truly something special. There's a unique magic in it, a calmness that feels like a deep breath for the soul. We really need to make this happen. I’ve always loved John Muir's philosophy: “Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wildness is a necessity.” Each visit to the mountains nourishes our spirit in a way nothing else can. Watching others discover and enjoy the outdoors brings me so much joy, too. Keep up the great work! That trek looked tough enough and that's a long enough wee dander. You made the right call before it got even tougher!
@@footslogger_ni its a whole other world in that weather. Stunning. And people just want a glimpse of it, to be a part of it. For as you said its like a deep breath for the soul. There is something recharging and energising about it. But when the weather closes in sensible choices need to be made. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Beautiful winter wonderland 😍👌😎🥶🥶☺️ great wee video
@@maxinebriggs8102 Thanks so much. Am chuffed you enjoyed it.
Great video as ever. A coating of snow just makes the mountains look super special but as you said you need to carry enough kit to take care of yourself, especially if you're alone.
@@ExploreAboveAndBelow yeah. The mountains are fantastic in the snow. Its a whole different experience. Just beautiful. So glad you enjoyed the video
I take it, that even with snow drifts, a pair of snowshoes would actually be a hindrance, what with all the stone and boulders underfoot.
@@gordondud2004 well tbh I thought after that crampons would have helped. The snow was deep enough not to be slippy but there were compacted areas that would have been easier walked with some spikes
Love it looks really nice in the snow you looked like you really enjoyed yourself. I'm heading up tomorrow can't wait 🙂 great video as usual 🙌
@@OutdoorswithAdrian thanks Adrian. Was a really fun few hours. Was baltic though.
@walkwatchers Always worth it even if it's baltic lol
Nobody there but you!
@@tonyowens40 It was nice to be all by myself but I think there were loads of folk up on Donard and Commedagh
Class montage! And yep, I’ll be passing by where you were sitting soon enough. Honestly, I love that spot-it’s such a special part of the Mournes. We’re so lucky to have such a gem right on our doorstep!

Alyn, my mum swears by aloe Vera for all ills and you have Cadburys Caramel😊 Super tricky to get the perfect weather forecast right for the tops of the hills - though always good to have memories of getting soaked in the Mournes😊 It was cool that the weather finally got around to 'making an effort' for you😊 All useful experience for future trips👍
Scariest night ever. But it was a positive experience in the end. Aloe vera does indeed work wonders but don't dismiss the caramel. It can work miracles. I'll certainly be a little more cautious before trusting the weather forecast on my next night out
Alyn, you are the perfect 'Christmas model'🎅 and you wouldn't have wanted to lose that hat on the mountain top😊 Always good to reflect on what has been and what you have achieved in the outdoors and to think about new adventures👍 All the best for the year ahead for you and your family and for your outdoor adventures😊
