I live in Herefordshire, near the Welsh Marches. I'm fortunate to be able to see Red Kites nearly every day. Beautiful birds, I never get tired of seeing them.👍👍
Aw man youre so lucky. I feel that we are only really getting going here in Northern Ireland. Its taken us a long time to get to this point and these numbers so here's hoping we get to see lots more in the future. Dont be shy and send some of your pics our way and I'll get them up in the community section. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment.
Your appreciation of the Red Kites and bird life is clear Alyn! Nice to hear about the tours that Shelagh offers (with cake 😮) Its so good that the Red Kites were reintroduced and that they’re thriving from this initial work - thanks for the education!
Glad you enjoyed it Miriam. They are amazing, for such big birds. So acrobatic, social, curious. This was a brilliant day out. I definitely want to highlight more of our beautiful Irish wildlife- there is so much out there to see.
Class Alyn, thats amazing that we have 3 of those Leucistic Kites here, sounds like we are really lucky to have them on our doorstep! Loved the whole education spin this week, great to learn some new stuff about the outdoors. Thanks!
Thanks for that Gary. They are gorgeous birds and its so good to see them building in numbers (even if it slowly). Im really keen to show the nature of the mountains we walk in so you'll probably be seeing some more wildlife in the videos
Brilliant idea to do this Alyn 👏 I had no idea that they were native to Ireland or that they were so endangered. I've had the pleasure of seeing the colony in Mid-Wales a few years ago. They do feeding demonstrations and it was very impressive seeing so many of them in the one place.
Thanks Niall, I want to do some wildlife focused vids and I thought these birds would be a brilliant place to start. Shelagh is a gem and well worth chatting to. There was a feeding station in operation in South Down but it has closed. Hopefully it'll open up as it would be such a benefit to the species.
Aw Martin. Just brilliant. Had a great time with Shelagh and these birds are just spectacular. I think I have a wee bit to learn when it comes to wildlife photography though lol.
Love these birds, Alyn, and you brought us all a special treat. We stopped at the feeding station near Dumfries, on route to the Lake District, a few years ago, and saw many of them. I also know a farmer in fermanagh who has 2 of them on his land. Great to see so many in South down, and long may it continue. Regards, Ashley
Aren't they amazing Ashley!? Had the best time with Shelagh. Im sure Dumfries was brilliant. They have built a great population in Scotland and I cant wait to see that replicated here.
Great video. We have quite a few of either Red Kites or Buzzards down here too and I love watching them. I always assumed they were Buzzards but I will look closer in future to be sure. Their shreak/call always gets my attention.
Just a superb bird Patrick. It's really great to see how well the Buzzard has done to become our most common bird of prey and I really hope the Red Kite can do the same and find it's niche. You're so lucky to have them down round you. Keep your eyes peeled and keep counting. This is the busy season as they begin nesting, so there'll be loads of activity to watch for.

Loved that Alyn. Incredible birds. Done the bird of prey tour in the alliwee caves in Clare. Brilliant experience. Absolutely fascinating animals.

Applegreen on the N1 to Dublin is another spot to see them!! We plan another trip to Scotland to see the Golden Eagles in the wild on Mull.
@@ashleyjarnold that would be fantastic!

Very good. Making me wonder is it buzzards or red kites recently settled around Lough Mourne. I’ll have to go back and try find out.
Good question Thomas!? You need to go and have a nosey. Itd be amazing if it was Kites. Make sure to register your sighting with RSPB if it is.
