Building the foundation and floor system on our new Off grid cabin.
In this video, I am building the foundation, floor support system, and insulated floor for our new cabin on our off grid abandoned hunting camp. I am using 35, 50 in helical piles In a grid pattern with 4 x 4, southern yellow pine critical structure risers Bolted to the piles. There are seven 4 x 6 x 16’ southern yellow pine critical structure beams that will set on top of the risers. The floor joist framing will be 2 x 6 x 16‘ and 2 x 6 x 12‘. there is 2 x 2 x 8 furring strips that will hold in the 2 inch foam insulation with an R10 rating. The deck is 4 x 8 by three-quarter inch sheets of treated plywood and under the floor to seal up. The bottom will be 4 x 8 by half inch sheets of treated plywood. If you have any questions about any of this, please leave them in the comment section, and I will be glad to answer them for you. Thank you so much for watching.

      Most the trees around the cabin are in great shape and don’t need to be cut. I have 26 acres that’s very heavily wooded. I have cut a few around the cabin area that I knew needed to go. To be honest I just missed this one when I was doing that.

    Nice walk thru. Mounted my first downriggers back in mid 80’s. I would have opted for some aluminum angle instead of the steel. I preferred the Big Jon downriggers and planar mast. And I made 4” square plates to mount into with thumbscrews. Just another way and OEM.

    Just a quick note to people new to air rifles. Break barrel rifles are much different from multi-pump or PCP airguns and require a scope that is rated specifically for a break barrel airgun. The distinction is a break barrel (either spring piston or nitro piston) has reverse recoil. Firearm scopes are NOT designed to handle reverse recoil. Bottom line is check to see if it's break barrel (springer) rated before you buy a scope. The original scope on your rifle would have been springer rated it was just defective. These have been around for a while, but mostly used for building decks to hold your posts firmly but in the past few years, they have been using them quite a bit in Sandy areas to get down to the hardpan sand and below the frost line. They have extensions you can put on them if you need them and if you follow their engineered guidelines at 4 foot apart for loadbearing walls and 8 foot apart for non-loadbearing walls they will work great. I kind of went overkill as I put them in a 4‘ x 4‘ grid underneath the cabin so it should never move. I will be doing this for the front porch area also. And yes, I will be filming the entire cabin build to completion. Thanks again for stopping by. I appreciate the support.

      @ADifferentKindofQuiet I agree, they foundation is the key too many years of stability on any building. When you guys were up here, you seen that the cabin that is already here. It’s just setting on blocks. Most of these hunting camps around here are built just like that. Some are higher off the ground than others. I think for a small cabin that’s not used a whole lot that would be perfectly adequate and easy to re- adjust for frost heaving if needed. This cabin is 16 x 24. And with these piles that go 50 inches in the ground, I highly doubt we will have any issues with frost heaving. If we do, we have those adjustable nuts under the saddles of each of them and about six inches of travel for adjustment. These are completely new to me, and I’m hoping for them to be less of a hassle for movement. but I think they will be perfect for that area. I hope you’re enjoying being grandparents. It’s awesome.

      @FordDude66 yes, I always like my time in the UP It reminds me so much of growing up, up there. Most of the cabins that I see out in the area where mine is sit on blocks on top of the ground, which is mostly sand. It does shift a little bit with the freeze and thaw cycles and these piles will screw in below the frost line. Hopefully I alleviate that in this cabin. And there is about 6 inches of adjustment on those saddles. This is new to me also so we will see. I am heading back up on 13 August to frame the cabin and dry it in hopefully. More to come. Thanks for stopping in, it’s great talking with you.

    I share your sentiment about rodents! I can handle field/deer mice but packrats are the absolute WORST! They will tunnel/ chew through 1/2 inch wood/drywall.. just about anything to get where they want to go! I had to retrofit all the walls behind cabinets and appliances in the kitchen with sheets of metal. It’s the only thing that has actually worked… 😡 I hate them soooo much!! 😫

    • @safarijoesadventures
      @safarijoesadventures หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Jennifermcintyre yes, they can be pretty overwhelming in some areas. The only mice that I’ve seen here so far are the plain little field mice. But this other cabin was full of holes that the builder didn’t deal with, and it became infested with them. so I’m making sure everything is sealed as I go. And I have also built some passive bucket traps that have been killing a lot of them. Just need bait and you never have to reset them.

    My dad and I both have the same rifle and both have/had issues with the LC4x32 scope. He had the same adjustment problem you had and he contacted Gamo support. They sent him the 3x9 scope with the one piece mount and it's been fine since. When I mounted the 4x32, the end of the barrel filled up the bottom 3rd of the field of view (yes, it was mounted properly). I test fired anyway and it was high by over a foot as expected. I contacted Gamo and they are sending me the same setup. Crossing my fingers it does the trick! If anyone experiences the same problem with the included scope, I suggest emailing their support first to try resolving the issue at no cost. I can update this once I receive the scope to confirm whether it worked for me as well.

      There are a few reasons that could cause something like that. A worn extractor, dirt behind the extractor, a broken extractor spring without pulling it apart and looking at it it would be hard to tell. But that’s a good starting point.
