Caught on Camera! Upgrading Campervan CCTV for Ultimate Security | Instant Alerts
I'll show you the new Joinlgo J1-WS MDVR and how I upgraded my previously installed system and configured the mobile digital video recorder which supports remote access and real-time notifications as well as support for 4 Analog HD (AHD) 1080p cameras so I can keep an eye inside and also when away from the van.
I also replaced the monitor screen (for the same type) - note, it's 7" not 8" as I mentioned in the video - link below (Reversing Camera Kit for Vans)

This is what I have done with my van, I'm not recommending this or any other modification. You should carefully check the impact on insurance, warranties and any legal or regulatory requirements before carrying out any modification to your vehicle.

Hi thankyou so much for this great idea and video, I am in the spring redoing a campervan, interior and electrics also exterior and solar. I have a legacy Sargent ec155 shore power unit, that will not charge the newer Lithium batteries. So having this relay to switch between either or is really awesome for using most of the same sockets and devices as the inverter. I was thinking of a similar relay system for the 12 volt side using the automotive relay units. Thanks again. All the best...Ray
Really pleased you found it useful - all the very best, David 👍
Ha ha! That was very funny and very detailed and as informative as ever. 😊👍
Pleased you enjoyed it - a little different eh 😀 have a lovely weekend

Why was it cancelled this year after such amazing reviews ??
Hi David Wondering if you could let me know your set up and how long off grid we have cv 40 similar to yours as we think of changing batteries Thanks
We saw it was cancelled and such a shame as we genuinely loved that show. It was different & fun with all the entertainment on. 😢 Rachel & David 💗
S&L have just launched a 6ft 6inch bed in their Apollo without losing space on the kitchen and washroom side.
Thank you - appreciated. All he best, David & Rachel 👍
Just discovered your channel, a very interesting and thoughtful watch. I’ve had camper vans for years now. I travel for work so have a long list of requirements like yourselves. One thing I’ve learnt over the years is….. can save approximately 50% if you buy a brand new van and take it to a trusted converter. I tend to do this every 5 years. Personally, I wouldn’t dream of spending £90k on a factory fitted van, even though it would be hugely beneficial from a tax point of view 😊. All the best with your search, I look forward to seeing what you settle on 👍.
Thanks for the comment - really appreciated and some good thoughts in there - always interesting how often to change the van - do you find any trade in later has a massive difference after 5 years? - All the best, David & Rachel 👍
@ If it’s a good conversion and well serviced van, they still hold good value. I tend to get the same van, Citroen Relay L3H2 6M, not because I like Citroen, but because they are the least expensive 😅, but you get the warranty. All in, including conversion, I typically pay £40k; after 5 years I’d expect £25k going on my past vans. For some reason, conversions are a lot less expensive in Wales. I’m in Devon but worth the hassle and travel to save over £10k 👍
Hi. I'm tall like David so sleeping arrangements is a priority. I have a question. If you were able to go for a Consort, which model would you choose and why? Thanks.
Thanks for the comment, that’s a really good question - I’d like to see the Duet but do like the reef if I was to choose - all be it too short for me bed wise at drivers side. Hope that makes sense ? All the best, David
@@LeisureBit S&L have just launched a 6ft 6inch bed in their Apollo without compromising space on both the kitchen and washroom sides.
@@LeisureBit Thanks David. Consort do have a nearside 6'6" bed length extension as an extra option, but no good for you as you need it on the offside I think. Thanks.
I have a 100w solar panel with a victron Bluetooth pwm controller. What do i need to allow the solar to trickle charge the vehicle battery. Its a newish van so i assume a smart alternator. I dont think this B2B is the product to do this
Thanks for the comment - there’s a video I did a long while ago on battery maintainer - that has been spot on and keeps the vehicle battery topped up from the leisure battery - if you search for LeisureBit installing a leisure to vehicle battery maintainer you should find it - all the best, David

I have the 30A version currently (pun intended!). Can you confirm that the 50A output is maintained over say 1-2 hours if battery has been depleted. I have fitted a temp controlled fan on my 30A (400watt) version and that helps to keep it at above 25A but would be interested to know if the 50A (700watt) maintains its output??? Thanks for any reply, great informative video 😃
Thank you - I’ve not found much fallback, I set mine at 45A max given the cable run and cable size so I am running slightly under max, I have but so long as the battery is fairly well down so it’s not ‘backing off to full’ then it has been running MUCH cooler than the 30A one and negligible fallback that I’ve noticed with mine,. Not sure if that helps but certainly runs much cooler than the previous one. All the best, David
@@LeisureBit thanks for the feedback will investigate further now cheers!
oh my god, we love this so much, keep the fun like this in them, im not the one for watching reviews but this made me watch it

In due course i think we will think about cctv. We're think about Reolink.... any insights? N&Nx
Thanks for the comment, I’ve not used reolink but have seen them and the 4k UHD stuff looked good. I’ve found having it quite useful even without the connectivity, and haven’t regretted installing it as it does give some peace of mind. Worth considering. All the best, David
Great update on your CCTV install 👍
Thanks Tim, hopefully this one will hit the mark and be what I was after originally, so far, so good - all the very best, David 👍
Hi David, informative as always. I’m not a technical expert, but I do come from a security background that uses technical equipment, which is seen as a tool within a tool box of security tools available. I’m taking your need for this camera system, is a physical deterrence, a reporting deterrent post event and an emotional feeling of safety if inside the vehicle or away from the vehicle. Security tools work best, when placed in multi layered system. In our CamperVan, our security approach we use is… S - Situation - Understanding where and when we will need it. Parked at home or when using the Van, because this analysis effects choices to use as a layered security system. E - Environment. When using the Van, always be selective of where to stay or park when away from the Van to minimise risk. C - Cut-Offs. The Van is immobilised by not only the ignition key, but a secondary key, to connect the cut-off kill switch of the immobilisation system. Cut-offs can also be physical barriers such as external wheel locks, additional door locks, pedal and steering wheel locks. U - Utensils. Physical barriers that delay doors, windows opening and usage of pedals and steering wheel locks as well as outside wheel locks. R - Reporting. Done by use of a tracker and remote access to it, with its own power-supply separate from the Vans engine and habitation batteries. Reporting can also be done by the Camera system you have installed, though once a Criminal is inside a Van, this system is easy to disarm as the data box is never hidden and always placed in a storage area. Reporting also covers physical noise systems as warnings and deterrence. I - Insurance. An insurance that covers all eventualities, pays out for ‘full-new replacement’ and due to the security layered approach, all systems are recognised by the insurance company you use to help lower yearly insurance costs. Many fit systems that if not Thatcham approved, often have no effect on insurance premiums, even though many non Thatcham approved products are excellent. T - Technical. All technical systems in the security layered system can work as stand-alone, or together, with their own power sources away from the vehicles own systems, because if power was to be cut from the vehicle systems, they still need to function for a number of days. Technical covers all electrical security tools such as immobilisers, trackers, physical noise alarms and camera systems. Y - You. Meaning ‘you’ have to be content with regards understanding the systems, that for most people need to be easy and automated, so you don’t spend 5 minutes setting everything, every time you leave or enter the Van. Any security system that takes time from you, always fails, as you will not then set the system to work 100% of the time, due to the time to do so. You will always be the most important element of the layered security system, as the weak point of any security system, is always the human element with the person using it. Hope you have a layered system. Good security is never cheap, but good security helps minimise emotions with regards ‘fears’, helps offset insurance premium costs and delays a criminal long enough while tracking the event, to aid in disrupting the criminal event and aiding recovery of your precious items and Van. Let’s hope your camera systems are never needed for a criminal event. Safe travels to both of you & as always enjoying your content.
Thank you - that’s a great summary and real food for thought, you’re right also, if it takes too much time or you can ‘forget’ then it rapidly becomes ineffective. As you say hopefully it will never be needed for anything serious. It does also give peace of mind, especially if something goes bump in the night. A lot of the things you mention resonate but always room for improvement - thanks again for such a useful and comprehensive response, all the best, David

Hi both, a top site for you to try. A few years ago prior to having our motorhome we had a lodge on Holgates Silverdale site, this a a fantastic David Bellamy award winner and is superb. Just set off on our first trip of this year, a week in the lakes prior to to our next trip down to Spain in a couple of weeks time. We decided to revisit Holgates Silverdale as they have added an area for Motorhomes and statics. Although not cheap £44 per night we think it’s great value, fully serviced pitch, but also includes full access to a fantastic indoor leisure complex with indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna, along with superb bar/restaurant where the food is great. Perfect for dog walking, and easy walking distance into Silverdale and Arnside where with lots of interesting shops, pubs and restaurants. *ps don’t forget Fidden Farm at Phionphort on Mull, we are back up there for a few weeks at the end of April (Our No1 site) Craig, Louise and Eddie the Cockerpoo
My Wife and I are planning a big road trip next year around the coastal routes of all the United Kingdom to celebrate our early retirement. We plan to spend a week on the Isle of Arran on our Scottish leg and this vlog has been so insightful to us planning our visit to this scenic island. You mentioned you like an automatic gearbox. As an owner of a warwick duo with an auto box, I can understand why, especially with the electric hand brake. It's great. Two year vehicle warranty is a bit mean though, especially as fiat offer a 5 year warranty on the same unconverted van.
Thank you for watching & commenting 💗💗 The automatic makes such a difference to the driving experience. I was always a bit dubious but my dad was a big advocate and he was right! Wouldn’t / couldn’t go back now 💗💗 David and Rachel

How loud are these small battery fans? Are they good for a night time fan?

We got married in the medieval hall at Crook Hall in 2019 amazing day 👀👍
Thank you for watching & commenting 💗💗 Oh what a stunning location for a wedding 💗💗 Rachel & David 💗
Hi. Just about to fit the same unit on a 2008 caravan to replace the same BCA charger you had but I’m going for the 20 amp one as we are nearly always connected to mains hook up. 2 questions. How noisy is the fan and how have you got on mounting it horizontally? Victron want me to mount it vertically but there isn’t much room.
Unless it’s hot and running flat out the fan is virtually unnoticeable on mine under the seating. Mine has been mounted horizontally so it fits in the location of the previous charger with no issue. Clearly physics says vertical would give best cooling but they seem well made and manage any heat up and cooling so have never had an issue - just my personal experience and always go with what manufacturer says of course - all the very best, David

Check the new Eriba 602 , crafter based end lounge 6m from Hymer and a grest price point and build
Thank you for watching and commenting we really do appreciate it! 💗 Thank you for suggesting the Eriba too. We have had a Quick Look online and will go looking for a van to look in. Really appreciate it Rachel & David 🩷
Consort make fantastic motorhomes 6m Reef would be my choice.
Thank you for watching & commenting 🩷🩷 We had considered consort as they are really lovely vans however when we added all the spec in we wanted, & some changes David wanted the price went beyond our budget. Rachel & David 💗
Completely agree about the price. Trying to keep a consort under 90k with extras is difficult. Definitely want Auto box and Drivers Pack plus a few other options. We are in a similar position. We have a beautiful Hymer A Class with all the bells and whistles. However, it is in storage and is a complete production every time we go away. We are hoping to move this year and want a van we can park at home so going away is less of a faff and can be a quick decision. We really want a more compact van with enough lounge area for a comfortable nights sleep, including room for our cockapoo to bed down underneath. So the dilemma is 5.4m or 6m. Do you sacrifice comfort, space and storage for easy parking and manoeuvrability when touring? Hopefully you will find your dream van soon. Kind regards Nigel
Excellent vlog about your search and so glad your taking your time. We took and year and a half to choose ours before getting a Wildax albeit a Solaris. So happy with it and the aftercare. They also were one of the first to offer an all electric option. There’s a great owners forum on face book, Wildax enthusiasts group which offers great advice and is very honest even with common issues and build quality. Our final choice was down to specialist converters, too many issues we came across with the larger manufacturers. Anyway whatever you go for I wish you well and at the end of the day we all have different requirements and you must put yours first.
Hi guys look forward to seeing what van you get,i like your current one, dont think i could have one not enough space and the price of some of them.🤦♀️ See you both soon, take care x
Morning Julie our van has made it such a hard search because of the price & what you get for that price. Some of the vans are crazy money in comparison 💗 Rachel & David 🩷
Hi David & Rachel, have you seen that the S&L Apollo, all electric, that you saw at the NEC show is currently reduced to 79 thousand at the S&L workshop? 😊
Thanks for watching, commenting and giving us the heads up. We will take a peek Rachel & David 💗
Can't you sleep on the passenger side ?? be so much easier 🙂 I think you have seen pretty much every van going, dout there will be much different at the NEC in Feb, but you never know 🙂 There is some great vans out there, nothing is a perfect van van but you can get very close to it with a bit of research and patience as what you are doing. Hope you find what you are after. All the best Trev Debz and Tyler
I think he likes me on the passenger side Trev so if anyone breaks in they get to me first 😂 enough to scare a burglar off! 😂😂 It’s just the sides we sleep when we are home - we tried to swap and it didn’t work! We both didn’t sleep 😂😂 I think David just needs to buy me the Kaktus and be done with it! 😂😂😂 Rachel & David 💗💗💗
@@LeisureBit Yeah, work on Rachel they are superb vans🙂 I sleep on the passenger side, don't know why tbh 🙂 All the best 🙂
Yes pipe work to the combi boiler got hot when on hot water setting and the joint separated. Luckily I had some 12mm inserts on board so was able to repair .On checking the rest of the joints where access allowed showed no inserts fitted . On my old Trinute every joint had inserts and locking colletts. Watch out for other surprises with Wildax cant say on here.
That’s really bad 💗💗 Good job you had the parts to fix it - most people wouldn’t! Rachel & David 💗💗
When you want something bespoke, then I think a bespoke build is called for. I looked at an Adria Twin, but then I wanted better solar, a better dc to dc charger & lithium as a minimum. Then add in trackers & immobilizer it soon adds on to the price and you are pulling a new van apart. Difficult decisions for sure.
It’s so expensive to eat out these days…. Food isn’t that great and expensive was there the other day and stayed on the club site ❤
I agree - the food is mediocre and a bit microwavy much prefer independents The cocktails were nice though! I do like the site too! Thank you for watching and commenting 💗💗 Rachel & David 💗
Check the Wildax pipework they appear not to use the pipe inserts on the push fit joints. My Wildax pipework failed in France in 2024 on a 73 plate van just a word of warning.
Omg that’s shocking! Did it flood badly?
It's an interesting comparison ifyou eat out in stead of cooking in the van. However, I don't have my evening meal out and only have coffee for breakfast, I'm a member of both clubs so pay members fees or I stay on Aires, stopovers or CLs. So even taking in the cost of the food I buy in a shop, it's always going to be cheaper to go away in my campervan. Besides, I prefer the freedom and the peace. X
Thank you for watching and commenting 🩷🩷 We much prefer the van 🚐 despite of costs We have decided it’s better not knowing what we spend 😂 Rachel & David 💗
Hi David and Rachel, thanks for another great video. I'm sure you're the same, but we just love the freedom that the motorhome gives compared to hotels, regardless of cost. I think if our choice of holiday was cost driven, then we would probably end up in hotels. Even if you use free park-ups you still have the cost of ownership for a motorhome to factor in. I guess you know how much your own motorhome has cost you in depreciation, servicing, repairs etc over three years and how many nights you've spent away, so could calculate a cost of ownership per night. Please don't think I'm critisicing, I'm not and know that the video is just a fun comparison, which we very much enjoyed.
Thank you for watching and commenting 🩷 we agree we love the freedom of the van much more than staying in a hotel x We were just curious since we were at the site and there being a hotel so close. It did make us agree not to count costs ever again though! Rachel & David 💗
Good video. For my money you are going to go down the road of bespoke custom build, especially given your specific wanted features. We are about to start our search for the next van. Expect it be in around 18 months time. Will also likely go down the bespoke custom route as there is no perfect van out there! Also wanted to say I found your technical series on the lithium and inverter upgrades fantastic, really piqued my interest and has given me food for thought.👍
Thank you for watching and commenting 💗💗 Interesting that you are thinking about going down the custom build route too! We have looked and looked and searched and searched & nothing ticks all our boxes It will be interesting to see what decision you make too 💗💗 Rachel & David 💗💗
Interesting hearing what your thought processes have been over the past year. It will definitely help you to make the right decision going forward. Looking forward to seeing what you finally decide to go for 👍😊
Thank you guys! The cost to change is so expensive we don’t want to get this wrong 💗 Rachel & David 💗💗
Some great advice throughout that video and well done to you both for your patience! I am looking forward to hearing/seeing the winner :). Ian
Thanks Ian - I have seen that many vans they have all morphed into 1😂 We really don’t want any regrets - it’s too much money to waste Here’s hoping! 🤞🏻 Rachel & David 💗💗
Hi both :) I liked your answer to the question I asked before about 'why' , makes sense. I'm the opposite in that I hate automatics and don't use all the 'assist' stuff on my car so don't miss it in the van. We have the same layout as your CV20 and nothing else would work for us, so would be looking at the same options should we want to swap for a new one. One important aspect to us is available payload - is there much difference between them?
At the start of your video ,when you both listed your wants, I was shouting Consort at the screen, you then mentioned all electric, well Consort do an all electric pack now, so certainly worth a look, the build quality and customer service is just great, do the factory tour, it's well worth it
Hi Colin we had considered Consort but when you add in all the things we want it takes it out of budget unfortunately 😢 I har nothing but good feedback about them! We have been In Debz & Trevs and liked it! Thank you for watching & commenting Rachel & David 💗💗
Fell in love with the Warwick XL when I had a look round this weekend, good luck
Thank you for watching and commenting 💗💗 It’s a cracker of a van 🚐 that’s for sure 👌 Rachel & David 💗💗
My wife has just shouted at the TV "don't buy a Wildax" Our experience was not very good 😢
Thank you for watching & commenting 💗💗 Oh no - good feedback - what happened? Rachel & David 💗💗
Lots of problems, fridge not working, solar panel not working, water leak through side window, shower tray cracking, shower sliding door sticking closed, cabinet edges lifting off, window corners falling off, damaged Thule canopy, drawer catch broken, fly screens popping out of the track, safety recall to reinforce the seatbelt anchor points and very poor dealer support "they all do that sir" We lost confidence, it was a shame as the layout was great. 😢
