What were the turbine AR on the old turbo vs new? Ive been told Ex back pressure is a real issue leading to EX valve float.. looking at a 6758 with a .63 for a 2L auto beams build.
they were both the same at .82, but the 7163 has a bigger wheel. I think the 6758 is the perfect turbo for a 2l if you want good response and 450whp. I would go up to a .82 twin scroll housing and use a good set of valve springs.
@@hawes_power5590 Thanks, recommendation on who to speak to re. valve springs in NZ? I have a set of the "uprated" Toda springs for the Beams but they don't spec there lbs. Realistically they will be to cover the Toda high lift cams with a raised RPM limit.... but how far will they go on a boosted Beams... well not keen to find out the hard way, (sorry for your loss). Thinking these will be fine on the inlet side and I source something heaver for the EX side. Thanks for ya time.
@@timonthornley2656 well i have seen several beams fail on the kelford springs. the first set i used were from kennelly cams. they obviously didnt work but would likely be fine without running anti lag. im now running some custom dual springs which have been good so far but need to put more kays on them. sorry i dont really have a good answer for you
@@hawes_power5590 Thanks, who do you recommend I speak too? Where did you source yours?
Would you recommend doing this swap.?
Yeah its a great swap
How expensive do you think this would be? USD?
hard to say, i dont know what things cost in the US. mechanically its a very easy swap. the expensive parts are the ECU/wiring and exhaust fabrication. depends how much you can do yourself...
Hey Mate, have you ever thought about offering the head flange for sale? I’d like to buy 2 from you or even the cad file to make a manifold for my Altezza.
yep can do. email me at willy_hawes@hotmail.com
What conrod bearings did you use and what was the clearance? I am assembling a 3S beams block using ACL 4B8366H-STD bearings which gives conrod clearance of 0.0025", the STD spec is 0.0009 - 0.0022", is my clearance too large? When i measure the clearance using the original toyota bearings i get 0.0015".
I used factory 5S bearings, and my engine builder set the clearance to 0.0025" which he recommened for a race car (slightly looser than factory). I would consult with an engine builder but it sounds like your clearance is the same as mine and should work nicely
Honestly considering either this swap or a volvo t5... Whats this weight all together and does ac fit still? Is there enough room without redoing the cooling package completely?
the 6 cylinder is slightly heavier as you would expect, dont know the numbers but its not significant. you may need custom AC lines plenty of room for the cooling package
@@hawes_power5590 thanks I actually found a blown car yesterday and eh well I have a spare built t5 so I made an adapter plate tonight lol. I think the 300tq at 2500rpm fixes what I hate about the car. And the t5 is about 100lbs lighter than the fa and about 80lbs less than the ez30. Having a few fast Volvos and lots of parts I can throw together a nice punchy 350hp motor for damn near free at this point.
What are you revving the EZ30 out to? I love watching these!
Dyno video the highest I saw was 7500
yes 7500
still out here defying engineering. heres to all the carved out 5s heads. there are better buckets out there, stiff springs im gonna say could be the solution most likely. valve float is an issue in all anti lag cars. hope it goes well, im watching what you do so I can potentially get a 5s reengineered by myself and present it to a bit engine manufacturer maybe get toyota on it
Perhaps reach out to PSI Racing?
Do you do any injector cleaning? Might want to invest in an injector cleaning machine and clean every so often. E85 and old gas combo totally gunked up my Injector Dynamic 2000cc injectors and fuel system. I am going to do it as regular maintenance now. I had white yellow hardened gunk. Your dyno might have gained more HP if you did that. I'd even check your FPR diaphragm. I have a high boost 5th gen and its something you might want to look into. I found out by oil analysis and then it got progressively worse. As for the head damage maybe don't rev as high?
i wouldnt usually clean the injectors unless there was a problem. the fuel wasnt that old. the fuel we use is pretty much 95 octane with an additive to add octane. this additive is known to desolve after a few months, effectivly making it 95 octane (equivalent to 91 in the USA). what amkes you say the diapram. i log the fuel pressure and it was rock solid... I rev it less than the factory beams engine, i went over the reasons for failure in the video.
My fuel pressure was good too. Now im overhauling my whole fuel setup due to a cracked FPR diaphragm (e85) residue on it and an injector that I suspect was dripping and got worse over time. Backwards benched cleaned and blew a piece of junk out which I suspect was from not running a 5 micron filter. Just saying if you race it and take it apart you should at least check your fuel system while its apart. I didn't know till I had Blackstone Labs told me in oil analysis.
Poor bloke. I feel your pain.
Can you tell me the name of the plug for the engine harness? I need to order one for myself and am having trouble finding them online.
msel.co.nz/54-way-connector
Whats your Facebook site? I could put you in contact with some of the best 5s guys in norway
Might you make these for purchase?
yes i will via Agile Performance NZ
where can you get a copy of the flanges so i can get them laser cut here in the states?
flick me your email, i can send it through
if its a toyota keep it toyota, with a far more reliable and boost freindly tacoma 3.5 liter v6.
the factory motor aint a toyota...
I know that. that's why I won't buy one.
were you using the factory titanium valves? I assume they can't take the boost
nah i was using the factory steel valves in an auto head
You look so disheartened at the end of the teardown, hope this one works out for ya m8
me too!
Willy watching in ireland learn a lot and got me back out competing keep it up sir
You never give up... Good on ya!
Thats alot of damage 😅
sure was!
Are you certain it was the valves and not something else?
there were marks on 3 other exhaust valves, so fairly confident
With all that complexity and all that was destroyed, I'd have been strongly considering another mid displacement max effort N/A build.
like a 2GR?
Where can someone from the US get those coilovers?
Love the commitment will I cant imagine how heart broken you where when that engine blew. Good to see it back again and hopefully ready to party
yeah was pretty gutted!
you walked so others could run🙇♂
Still in testing with the new knuckle assembly?
yep, obviously testing was put on hold for a while. but going good so far
Just double the hp of mine 😂
gotta bump up those rookie numbers haha
Willy posts a video, I watch and support. 💪🏾
Cheers! :)
Fuck
Yeah i did a job of demolishing that engine..
Technically this is actually a 5SGE-T
I'll call it whatever i want
great Q: where did you learn all this ?
Engineering and racecars are my profession. school, work, the internet and building many cars before this one. best way to learn is to just get involved
thx for reply Q: I drive GT86 on trackdays when is motoroil temperature too high and cool-down lap is needed ? And same question for gearbox oil rgs from Belgium 🇧🇪
I am currently running an unbuilt Manual Blacktop Beams in my MR2 (only full swap I'm aware of in an MR2). I will build it now that I am confident I got the swap in there correctly. I was considering using the 5S block for a big power build when I realized the blacktop block was made in the same generation as the coveted 98+ 5S block so casting material would be of similar quality. When i compared the two blocks side by side, I wasn't able to see why the 5S block would hold up any better than the Blacktop block. Having said that, I didn't do any sonic testing or any other in depth analysis comparing the two blocks. In my opinion sticking with the blacktop block may be a more straightforward build for anyone considering running the blacktop head. Either way I love the 5S + Blacktop combo idea and am very interested. Cudos for taking on this project and for sharing!
nice, in a sw20 or aw? the backtop block certainly makes things easier. I have ultrasonic tested both the late model 3s and 5s blocks. the 5s has on average 1mm extra bore thickness and is a harder material. the 3s block will hold around 500hp depending on cylinder pressure.
@@hawes_power5590 oh cool! Late model 3S as in the blacktop beams? Blacktop was the last even later than redtop and gen4… I am in an SW20
@@hawes_power5590 Have you ultrasonic tested the blacktop block specifically? I am curious if it might be stronger than the other 3S blocks
@@theshadowofalepton5178 yes i tested the blacktop
Do you know what after lsd can you use with c160/ non clutch type
i dont understand what you are trying to say
@@hawes_power5590 sorry i meant aftermarket LSD that is a good replacement for the OEM unit? which Brand? from knowledge KAAZ/Cusco is clutch based
@@martindebowski5190 i havnt used an aftermarket LSD in the corolla, but there are several out there for the C series. id go for a 1-way for a FWD
@@hawes_power5590thanks for that much appreciated! Are the lsd’s for c series boxes interchangeable? For eg Can you use one that’s for c56 in a c160? I think quaife makes some for these boxes c56
@@martindebowski5190 I belive so, but best to do your own research.
Hey fellow kiwi here. I built a 5sgte around 2018 using the manual blacktop head, custom rods, pistons, full cnc head, cam upgrade, full ferrea valvetrain. Running ext. oil pressure ported using an line to activate the variable cam timing. Partial grout filled block, stud kit etc. Stuck it into a TA22 and a built R154, LSD streeter
Awesome car! Sounds like a very similar setup, what sort of power are you making?
sick!
Love it
Could you provide the part number for the rebuild kit from Toyota?
have a look on amayam.com
Gonna try and replicate this and shove it in my first gen Camry
Awesome!
Awesome 👌
Awesome swap, mate!! How's the transmission holding up so far? Any particular reason that you didn't go with the EJ/EZ 6spd? With a RWD spool, they should be a lot more beefier than 86/brz's 6 speed, don't you think? The only downside I can think of is the weight and the some modification for the swap itself.
its holding up perfect so far. seeing as i mainly use it on gravel, it doesnt see the same loads as you would on tarmac. Yeah exactly as you say, they are certainly heavier and dont bolt strait in. If i end up having problems, then ill look into it
Sounds amazing! How is the handling balance with the H6? amazing job.
Love it, great work. Was noticing your arm setup too, I've been considering building a pair of tubular arms for my Celica. I hadn't really considered making a vertical to horizontal bolt pocket back where the single vertical bolt was stock. I was going to use a uniball. But after seeing your arm, I'm certainly rethinking it.
Was thinking of set of arms for mine, do they help ?
I wouldnt say they transform the car, but a little extra caster certainly helps turn in grip. plus being able to dial in camber where the factory has no adjustment is quite nice. many small upgrades add up to a nice handling rally car, the arms are just one part of the equation
@@hawes_power5590 what suspension are you running?
@@kadebugler9 it has MCA dampers
looks amazing, that there are people like you developing celica stuff. keep going love your chanel
thanks for your kind words. i often think that i should move on from a 35 year old chassis, but im rather stubborn haha
@@hawes_power5590 no the celica gt4 was an amazing winning machine, the head of Gazoo toyota wrc now is building these in a facility flat out and he rallys one all the time, they are queing upfor them in Finland.
very neat , how did you take measurements to get the drawing into fusion ?
old school techniques on this one. calipers, rulers, angle-ometers and reference planes. I have since brought a 3D scanner which would have helped nicely.
@@hawes_power5590 scanner is an absolute gamechanger
I’m blown away 🤩
I would be keen on a set for my St165 and for my st246... Can we buy the pre cut plates from you.... Or you should look at getting a short run of these made... This will save alot of Celica and Caldina owners lots of hassles👍👍👍... Probably most of GtFour owners club NZ will buy them... Probably a lot of overseas interest as well
They will be up for sale at some point, potentially as both a steel fabricated component but definitely as a billet alluminum item. I can almost guarantee that no one in NZ will buy one haha. i have sold many LSDs and control arms over the years they 100% all go overseas.
@@hawes_power5590 most kiwi guys don't have big budgets.... The steel ones are a good option I think
@@nigelsmith7366 indeed. unfortunately the fabricated knuckles wont pass certification here in NZ. and to be honest, they are probaly unnessasary for a street car
@@hawes_power5590 I have started to encounter that brake issue with my Caldina st246 and I could not figure out what the cause was
@@nigelsmith7366 on the street or on the track?
Super slick. I believe i burned up my stock wheel bearings in dirt in a very short period of time, i was just thinking about going down the Prius knuckle route so this is incredible timing.
yeah they are a pretty terrible bearing. they didnt last long for me either
@@hawes_power5590 Do you think part of it is environment as well? I haven't torn mine out yet, but i suspect dirt/grit might be in places it shouldn't be despite being a sealed unit, based on the sounds they are making.
@@ABeans07 id be surpised if crap managed to find its way into the bearing, they should be sealed up pretty well
How does shortening the steering arm effect the steering? Can you feel the difference on the wheel? Looks like a shorter arm with less leverage on the Prius. That's why i ask. nevermind!
it will quicken up the steering which is good, but make it heavier. It also adds some bump steer
Nice Work! Are you going to the rally in Whangarei? You have some fans that live here
