    Recipe you will like. Whipped Honey, Trail mix, Jerky, Peanut Butter all whipped together and have a pack of Tortillas on the side. Why does nobody bring 10lbs of Raw Rice? I believe all these thru hikers don't eat or live healthy and wouldn't last long in a survival situation.

    Hi, just wondering how is the peakdesign capture doing with the atmos? I found it so difficult to install and it seems risking to damage the strap. appreciate if you can share some insight/experience. Thanks

      Thanks for the question! I know what you mean, it’s a tight squeeze to get it on there, but it’s worked great, super secure, and I’ve taken it off several times for various reasons and the strap has held up just fine.

    How many people die on trail each year?

    • @PackAndSoul

      Always depends on the year, but usually very few if any. And if someone does happen to tragically die, it’s usually due to falling / getting lost in cold temps.

    Boundary Waters veteran here. My strategy is to use an Ursak with a Loksak odor-proof bag for anything that has a scent. Six trips - no bear or critter issues so far. More importantly, I keep a clean camp and clean dishes and fish far from my sleeping and hangout areas. So far so good! I’ll do anything to avoid schlepping a canister around.

    "Papa Smurf" here... an old grey-haired guy with a blue shirt and a blue backpack. (See photo to the left) Hey, I've been called worse. How'd I get it? While on a solo hike I ended up hiking a section of a trail with a small group of mostly strangers. Someone in the group, "Joker", had the idea to give trail names to a couple of us who didn't have one. At the time I wasn't aware that this was even a thing. I was lucky. One guy in the group was called, "Dumpy". The story is, he got it one day after developing stomach issues and repeatedly being forced to step off the trail and dig a cat hole to take care of business. The funny thing is that he said it was better than his previous trail name, which he never would reveal. I guess the name I got wasn't so bad.

    Hey thanks for this! I'm new to hiking, and the AP is my big goal to go for while I do smaller treks around England to practice. After watching a number of 'big' TH-camrs I have to say that, while they've been great, the videos like this seem to be way more useful. There's no brand allegiances, it's literally all just personal experience from the trail. After worrying about equipment it's very refreshing to see the reality of what the trek can actually look like - I honestly thought you were joking about the crocs to begin with, but hell yeah if it works it goddamn works. The poles too! It's pretty funny, I'm a total newbie who's been researching into hiking poles, the different handles types, folding vs telescoping etc etc - and then I run into you, a dude whos *actually* done it, who's like "oh yeah, I didn't even pick these ones, I just found some poles and used them" and they're seemingly not even the same type! Two random-ass poles thrown together, but if it works, it works!

      Love this comment! Thanks so much for leaving it. I know exactly what you mean, it’s hard to cut thru all the bs sometimes with the influencer backpackers. Don’t get me wrong, it’d be nice to have all the latest gear, ultralight etc, but it wasn’t worth the price tag, at least for me. And honestly, being “hiker trash” out there with a bunch of ragtag gear actually feels really nice. As long as you got it in your mind and heart that you wanna do the trail, all the rest couldn’t matter less.

    The Bear Cannister he showed is most likely flawed. If that is the one that you can open with your hands without a coin or screwdriver bears can get into it. In the Adirondacks I saw a sign telling hikers not to use that type and they had one that was ripped up. The Rangers there do not want you to use that type. I use the old fashioned one where you need to you use a coin, keys, screwdriver to open. My Bear Cannister has claw marks all over it but no real damage.

    • @PackAndSoul
      @PackAndSoul หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comment. This one isn’t flawed and works just as well as the others that use coins in terms of bears. All comes down to personal preference

    I’ve heard too many stories about having to search the woods for the can in the morning after bears played soccer with it all night. If I had to carry a canister, I’d still want to put it in a bear box or hang in anyways. Totally understand why certain areas make you have one, but they do suck. I’m a dry bag guy myself.
