HI Zack, I've been invited to play Vampires for my first time and jumped onto YT to learn the game. It was nice to see a familiar face! I miss your guy's weekly show and I hope all is well!
Do you have a link for that character sheet?
Wow Zac, great video and series. This is really going to make GMing easier and the game more fun!
This approach sounds similar to Legend of the 5 Rings where the difficult of checks is dependent upon which approach (ring) you use and players can figure this out by how you describe the situation or NPC
So is there an inventory system or that determined by the dm?
Forbidden Psalm is a much easier to follow Mork Bork spinoff
I'm headed to Gamehole Con in Madison WI this weekend and I'm signed up to play a 4-hour Alien game (which I assume will be Cinematic mode), thank you so much for the overview so I know what to expect! I have tons of 5e D&D experience, but...that's it when it comes to TTRPGs, so this is very helpful.
Many thanks! Have recommended to others just picking TOR up.
I once had one of my party members get impregnated by a royal face hugger we weren’t alive for much longer
If theres a reason why I would not play this is becuase the layout seems like a damn mess
Thank You .
Oh thank whatever god heard my prayers. I wanted to try this game out since my normal ttrpg group are wanting to try out a different system (path/starfinder, the dishonoured rpg, and now this) and I bought both the core rule book and players guide. I almost shat myself when I saw how THICCC the core rulebook was. I find the text a little too small to read comfortably and since my friends want ME (the dumbest of the group) to run a oneshot to give this a try. I am trying my hardest to read the two books I have (I need to get a magnifying glass) this has made learning the game so much easier for me
put my big dnd campaign on pause due to a lack of certain players atm so gonna host a monster of the week game but doctor who themed
Been looking into this and thinking of getting the starter set for a good intro into the system. I like how this system seems natural and more realistic in how player characters learn skills, acquire knowledge, and gain experience. I get the impression that gameplay is more fluid. Anyway, excellent primer into the system.
Just learned about this ttrpg. Im.very interested in running it. I may buy the core book at my local table top gaming store 😅
Please do the intrigue one!
Excellent video! Thanks for helping break this down. My starter set just came in the mail today!
This system is so streamlined you could get the game in the morning, read the rules, look at a few TH-cam videos and if you have some GM experience under your belt, you can be running it for your group in the evening with a high degree of confidence that you are not totally butchering the rules. I let my players roll up a couple of characters each and put them straight into the one shot Ypsilon 14. Their last adventure had been in Burning Wheel, which was essentially a magical version of medieval Europe and a hardcore role master game based loosely around Warhammer 40k. My pitch, imagine you are in the Alien's universe with all their technology, and you run into The Thing. Pick the character you want to begin with, and you have the option of your other character being revived from hypersleep if that character dies, or you want to run two characters at once. By giving them that option, I don't really need to make it explicit that this is a deadly scenario. As a GM I loved Burning Wheel, but for half of my players, figuring out how to engage with the belief system consumed too much game time. By making life so much more expendable, it is refreshing to focus on the more day to day survival. I don't know how this will play out in the long term, that's something that only time will tell.
You forgot to mention the value of "Running Away" LOL
not all are versed in the top tier cinematic masterpiece that is “monty python and the holy grail”
Looking forward to seeing you at PAX West!
Was good to see something posted on the channel, it's been a while. Hope you all are doing well!
You must speak more distinctly to be DM. Use a Cambridge English Accent and speak more dramatically. Speak like David Attenborough and with a deeper voice
Thanks for deciphering this game. I'll stick to the RPGs I already have.
great video!
Thanks
This is the kind of video I needed to help explain the game. Thank you!
Really appreciate the honest in-depth review. Especially as someone who does not read dense material well. And respect someone not getting compensation for passion. #subscribe
I’ve just received the Starter Set, is this set compatible with Reforged?
I like the breakdown. I really like the nuance of the system and how it abstracts a lot of the standard things DND doesn't bother to, and encumbrance actually matters and can be changed to avoid getting tired? That's good game design.
Thanks for a really informative review. My daughter bought this game; I'm trying to help her understand it for her, but the willpower/magic thing was hard to fathom. Really seems like game-breaking to me. Strange that it hasn't been fixed after so many years? There's a difference between being challenging and unplayable. Only upside is that you could play it totally without magic, like a medieval simulation game. Sort of like Kingdom Come. But then you probably should omit or scale down the supernatural monsters as well.
So it's basically wfrp witout w?)
Thanks - I will be playing at GenCon ‘24 and it’s appreciated to quickly know the basics
the storyteller killed my vampire, because she was too badass for the plot. It ruined my 1 and only Masquerade experience.
Killing off a character stinks of internal politics

One of my favorite TTRPG and a wonderful overview. Thank you! As always an amazing video!
I missed the Kicksrarter.
Shaddam IV: “Bring in that floating fat man, The Baron.”
Thanks for the review! Just wanted to drop a comment to help you out in the Algorithm :)
yes you should play it. i have. love it. im playing a teamster with a robotic arm. really cool setting. high tension feel.
A rare non-fluff piece RPG review. There's something weird going on in the RPG industry. It's as if most publishers are breaking their games on purpose and in a way that's hard to spot unless you actually play them. Maybe a really solid RPG causes problems with long term profit? Maybe this next RPG we all rush out to buy will be the one.
From what I've seen, it's easy to play. Step 1: roll characters. Step 2: start the adventure. Step 3: Roll characters. Step 4: continue adventure. Step 5: roll cha... you get the picture.
Seems noone gives a flying turd about dhead fox and his warhammer house rules
Great video, tho ...maybe using the actual dice in place of your finger could help a little XD. Great explanation for the "Conflict rules"
Will this solo well?
You've doing a how-to-play overview, and just finished a campaign, but might not even get all the rules right? Why wouldn't you wait to make the video with better notes/script or edit it so that it is 100% correct?
The way you pronounce Zweihänder is a little funny to me. You pronounce the händer part correctly but you pronounce zwei with the anglo w instead of the germantic w which is a v sound. It's a common mistake so I'm not trying to dog on you for it it. when I was first learning German words I use to pronounce it Z W Ei Hander instead of Z V Ei Händer so forgive me if I take a little humor in the mixed pronunciation of Z W Ei Händer. 😂
I wonder what it would look like to offer each player the ability to earn Willpower each successful day of exploring, or maybe when the team does cool stuff as a unit? Otherwise, yep, that tends to make magic users feel rather useless. Thanks for the commentary!
Would spell casting work with a Power Points system, instead of Willpower? A spellcaster would get a certain amount each day. Maybe a sleep action recovers them.
Thanks for this. I was surprised to see that more than one 'Trained' level skills can apply to the same stat roll. Does that mean that if Zoology (+10) AND Pathology (+15) both applied to a stat roll, that I would get +25?
How could there be no distinction between small damaging but hard to hit monsters and large damaging but easy to hit? Nothing in your attack roll accounts for the size or evasiveness of your target.
you can always assign advantage or disadvantage to your players based on the fiction
