Great review! I agree with your points. The most significant difference that I discovered while running Cairn was that because there were fewer rules, and thus fewer limitations, players felt more empowered to use their imaginations. In 5E, spell descriptions can get quite lengthy, all to basically describe what you can't do. Cairn spells are one sentence wonders, and there are really no attack spells. Spell use generally involves creatively using utility spells to achieve success, in and out of combat. My friends and I have been playing since the 70's, and this was a fresh and enjoyable system to use.
HP mechanic, as far as I know, first appeared in Into the Odd and Electric Bastionland some years ago.
I printed out my own booklet of this and I guess it assumes you’d know how to create an adventure from nothing. I was like “wait, now what?” after I read it. But then, how to GM is its own subject.
nice review. Interestingly i've heard Yochai pronounce the game as 'Karen'
"Kaaaern"
Don't worry I'm sure I say it wrong too
It's my Favorite RPG all the supplements are really good and I've been mixing it with Into the Odd
Thanks for the support! I love the name/word. It's one of those words you read regularly but seldom get a chance to pronounce.
Thanks for the review! Just wanted to drop a comment to help you out in the Algorithm :)
Cairn isn't bound to classes, but bound to the ONE class it has. Everyone is a varient of that one class.
No
"carn" 💀
Cairn not "carn". A pile of rocks. Like "care" with a "n" on the end.
