I know this video is old. But I'm just now finding out about all this. And I almost got roped into some of these issues today. Crazy how toxic this community can be. I try to avoid these kind of things as much as possible. But even when you avoid it sometimes it's still crops up and tries to pull you in. I thank you for posting this. There's things I agree and disagree with. I would love to make my own game someday that has nothing to do with the culture war. But for now it's much easier to explain why I don't like current trends in gaming and it's not just culture war stuff either. It's a bunch of things like battle passes, FOMO, pre-order bonuses, early access if you buy a more expansive version of a game, just all kinds of things there I find annoying. I recently started a TH-cam channel to discuss the culture war from my point of view, an autistic trans woman. What you mention about both sides sounds a lot like Horseshoe Theory, when both sides effectively become the same. Now don't get me wrong, I don't feel equally about both sides, I have specific issues with both although I align closer to the anti-woke side. I'm just someone who didn't want any part of the politics involved, but then the Far Left started to really get involved with entertainment. We get shows like She-Hulk which IMO feel really preachy, that most guys are idiots and/or evil. I believe one of the creators mentioned how it was to get back at critical male fans. Male. They almost always only focus on men. DEI has led to female characters being made ugly on purpose while claiming it's so transgender people don't feel offended. Excuse me? That's my biggest issue here. They do all these things I don't like while claiming it's done for my own good. No, stop it, I didn't ask or want this. I'm tired of them treating me like a helpless victim who can't stand up for myself. I find myself a centrist these days. It doesn't mean I try to be 50/50 on everything, but I hear you with how much hate "fence sitters" get. I made up my mind, it's just not fully aligning with either side. Openly being transgender gets me hate from both sides. To the Left, I either have internalized transphobia or I'm faking it, because surely no transgender person would ever question wokeness. To the Right, I'm delusional, out of touch with reality, not worthy of respect for trying to be a woman when I'm biologically male. I'm not onboard with anti-woke people who are anti-LGBT, especially for religious reasons. I like many of Melonie Mac's points, but not when she goes on about God and how LGBT is a moral sin and all that. I want this culture war to be over with and ideally both sides would be gone, but I align closer to the anti-woke side as I see the woke side as having way more power in today's entertainment. I don't want dumb censorship, I don't want ugly characters because "we don't want to offend anyone," I don't want anymore games like Dustborn and Concord that aim for the "modern audience" who mostly don't exist. Let me rephase that. Games I don't agree with politically should be allowed to exist. I just don't want that stuff happening in games I'm interested in.

Both sides have made a mess of the medium. Thanks to the "get woke go broke" blokes, a bad game is no longer a bad game on its merits, or lack thereof. It has to be some terminally online jargon conspiracy that nobody in the real world uses. It's less about creating frank conversation and just wanting to win an argument, only to freak out when retaliation incurs.

You didn't throw outside or inside, but right down the middle. There is a gigantic strike zone for both sides to live in. You don't have to be all the way left, or right (in my opinion). Hey, and even if you do drift one way or the other, that's not a be all end all. We can talk. PEOPLE can talk. What happened to that??? I have plenty of friends with a wide variety of opinions and thoughts about everything. It’s not a good sign when you keep mentioning “DEI” as a pejorative. There are positives in showing stories from different perspectives. Concord didn’t tank because it showed differing perspectives. It tanked because it wasn’t a decent game.

You've always had strong stances, and I get that you're frustrated with how things are going and the direction that is happening right now in the industry. I see it a bit differently, though. Believe it or not - I actually enjoy digging into this kind of content and feel passionate about exposing some of the agendas being pushed by these activists. There are some truly awful people behind the scenes impacted not just games, but games that we love, in ways that push their ideologies on us - and that ain't cool with me... For me, it's not just about the games themselves, but about standing up for the things that matter to gamers like US. I understand why you feel the way you do, but for me, it's worth fighting against this direction to help preserve what makes gaming great. Appreciate the convo as always - and don't expect you to agree - but that's why you rock. We can chat, have our opinions, and still be cool at the end of the day - and that means more than anything.

Well spoken. It's like I told you earlier in the mod chat that I might lean a little more on the left side but I will still call both out on their hypocrisy. Especially those who kneejerk to overusing the term "woke." That word has lost ALL meaning because of their abuse of it.

Apocalypse is one of the most underrated games of all time

7 years ago I bought an OG Xbox with 2 games, 2 controllers and a memory unit on OfferUp. I took the games, the extra controller, and the memory unit for myself, bought a few $1-3 games and flipped the Xbox for $60. Wish I would have held on to it a little while longer.

I get why they do it, but it's just not consumer friendly. We don't need a stop-gap between generations, the improvements between the previous and 'pro' version is so minimal it's just not worth the extra expense for most consumers. Game companies need to work on R&D, marketing, etc. for the next generation of console instead and stop with this biz tactic.
