Thanks for the video but the index you posted correlates with COVID when the whole hobby boomed. This doesnt discredit your theory about investing in the greatest players but this aspect is misleading

This is absolutely the play if you're in it for the long term.

I collect Messi as I've watched his whole career, and I have a few Ronaldo cards. I usually only pick up stickers and cards of Messi with good images of him with the ball in the photo. He's probably my favorite athlete, I collect all sports, but it has been very special watching them both have such good long careers. Michael Jordan was fun to watch but his career doesn't compare to Messi. Even the goats are scared of the lion.... and yes maybe Ribery and Haaland should have a B'allon of Messi's.

I just sold my entire collection and Im going all-in on Messi and 'Naldo (as my 2YO calls him)! J/K of course.....but some seriously valid points here. Maybe someday we'll see some of these new young phenoms stay healthy and motivated long enough to come close to touching these two greats. Seems like staying healthy is more of a challenge these days with the level that so many sports are being played at. Thanks again for the content, it's some of my fav soccer content on the 'tube.

I wouldn’t try to get every card out there for the 2, but definitely would aim for rookies, WC, most pre modern MGK and top modern sets (14, 17, specific case hits like kaboom and color blast) - it may sound like a huge list but I don’t really think it is

Another great video. Thank you! Everyone talks about the rookie cards/stickers for Messi and Ronaldo, as they should, but I also think the 2nd and 3rd year material for these two is also way undervalued right now ... along with much that comes after but still before 2014 / modern. I have very little of the early stuff, but I think it's a good goal for anyone interested in these two giants of world football.

This year I picked out about 10 players I though would have a decent career. I picked players under 21 and not the players like lamal. I enjoyed finding cards for the players and bost cards cost lest than £10 so it was affordable

I would take the Bruno gold. I love Zidane cards, but this 2004 MGK is just another MGK in a good grade. I’d rather have a /50 of a super popular set of an excellent player. Not every single Zidane has to top every modern card (if anything I’d pay a premium for some cards of his in the different calcio sets - not all obviously)

I feel more people are not trusting the publishers of soccer cards. I feel the fallacy here is other sport collectors are trying to comp soccer into another sport paradigm. The market is voting that megacracks bis of w “hot” prospect is it the gole standard. Since soccer is more global Lamine’s “true” Spanish card has more global demand. The on card auto ( that is a full sig) is a rare card. Due to replacement cost, travel to Spain and hope Lamine signs the card. There is a time/ energy cost ala replacement cost. Also, it is a timestamped via the cert.

Anyone having issues with auctions you won this week still showing they need to get paid? I did ACH payment and it cleared my bank 2 days ago, but Fanatics says it is still pending and I cant get my card until it's cleared.

Picked up the Labruna 46... super tough in that grade... yeah... Pepe is a legend in Portugal... mom accidentally killed him... I think that he played in the late 1920's... I picked up the CR7 rookie sticker PSA 9... I liked it ... slightly off center but a solid sticker with great color... seems like a deal.. and like a pop 20 and he only has two rookies....

How would you categorize the National Sports Card Convention and Topps UCL Japan variant cards? Same bucket as the Steve Aoki’s, or can a distinction be made?

Love the content man. Been out of collecting for about 10 years but getting back into it now as a big soccer fan. Plan on buying singles like I used to, but going to rip a few boxes to get started. What would you recommend?

It seems to me that there were fewer ultra-modern in the list this week. Good prices for high grade 2004 megacracks. I think there are several people working on high grade runs of the key players for this set.

I won an auction for a card on Sunday. No bids once it went into extended bidding which would seem to indicate other bidders were no longer interested. It was a good win based on comps. When they reopened bidding, of course the item was bid up higher. In the end I had to spend another 20% on top of the original price to win the auction. I opened a ticket to request a credit in the price difference between the first and second time I won. Pretty on brand for Fanatics - they cant touch anything w/o screwing it up.

Jude has more modern rookie cards….more serial non auto and auto cards. So it’s not that insane to take that many players that aren’t Jude to make up the same number. I don’t know why you’re “surprised” for. Then you keep saying how “crazy” it is to you when you bring up Yamal, when it’s pretty much the same exact reason for Jude. More non auto rookie card and auto rookie cards that the other players from the past. It’s simple. Also, you got a new sub. Roy Keane is my favourite player ever, and I’ve been a Man U fan since 1996.

Great video... great comments on the "risks" of soccer on the Zico cards... In general, I would be using a 3X as a general rule... so I think of anything above that that is + market and less than that I would say - market... and the Eusebio has a little bit of the "Zico thing" going on with earlier stickers that were not super well known back in the day... I felt like Platini never got the love and the difficultly in trusting the grading plays a role there... (and the FIFA controversy)... Agree that the higher grades have done better on average....

There's at least another driver to consider, and that is market's perception with regard to rarity. Those Beckenbauer Bergmann are fairly accessible, while Maradona/Cruyff remained under 100 pop in these 5 years, with the boom and so on. More or less same for Ronaldo, with too many people expecting the numbers to explode. Given this, it makes sense that Becknebauer didn't rise so much. A bit less for Cruyff, maybe they are sleeping 😅

Fascinating! Thank you. Messi, CR7, Zidane - all high rates of growth compared to most others on the list. Could part of it be that most recently arrived soccer card collectors (me included) actually saw these three play? Seems like the nostalgia factor could really elevate the more recent legends / GOATs compared to players of a similar level of greatness from previous eras. Not sure if this makes complete sense, but it’s one thought I had…

I don’t agree with the collectible sets argument. I grew up collecting baseball cards and Topps alone made over 100 different sets last year. I just gave up a few years back…an /10 should be pretty rare, but if your favorite player has /10 /5 /1 in 100 different sets? One of the charming things about collecting Football (soccer) cards is that there isn’t a single league, there are tons of tournaments and there is no HOF. There aren’t a ton of sets and your LCS won’t have many if any. If you are buying any collectables as an investment vehicle you aren’t going to fare well over the long term. However I find alot of Topps cards especially very nice looking and I enjoy collecting them.

Tim Howard a GOAT... love it... picked up the Di Stefano PSA 3... odd on the Greaves vs. Charlton... no idea why that is... love Lamine Yamal but that Megacracks "post issue" auto sale is absolutely nuts... on the Leonidas it was a tough one as his name was not on the card anywhere, so that probably kept it down (I bid but did not win).... pretty soft week to my eyes... let's see how the new Fanatics site holds up in the next auction

I bought around 40 Cadets Sweets 1958 sets a few years ago. Nearly all the Jimmy Greaves cards have a black print dot on the top border. The Bobby Charlton cards can be slightly more off centered, but it's a joke how there's no 10's. It's a waste of time sending them in for grading, even if they're perfect
