Great video... the key structural advantage of soccer is the supply for now (and maybe the demand in the future) which is where you get the exponential potential.... and the main reason why we can believe in the pops will always stay low... think about this.... EVERY soccer card that you mentioned was issued outside of the USA (Sweden, Portugal x2, Spain, Argentina) and all of the other sports were issued in the USA/Canada (if we include hockey) ... so supply is going to be WAY lower ALWAYS... if demand ever picks up, it could be amazing results.... also, I believe that the "top grade" analysis that some others have asked for would still make soccer look attractive..... but would need to do the math...

I appreciate going the rabbit with comping soccer to other sports. That said, the cycle from relative scarcity vs mass produced abundance is interesting to see. This cycle is constant over time and repeats. It’s catching that excellence via scarcity wave. Regarding soccer cards, we need an consolidation of brands. We see this with topps acquiring the license for epl starting 2025-2026 i believe announced today . Will this be a catalyst for relative scarcity regarding epl prizm club kit cards? I don’t know. Then it’s the modern lineage of brands that carry value topps chrome rc and it’s derivative in other sports panini prizm rc. The pendulum from scarcity to abundance and vice versa is interesting. Other factors like club loyalty collectors is a variable in soccer. In a nutshell we need clear excellence in this generation of players. Mixed with the luck of scarcity

Yes, but you are talking about modern cards. The Messi is the newest card on this list, so the dynamics you are discussing are already fixed.

Nice work. I would have gone with the 51 Bowman Mays - just to increase the set variety.

Love your content. Soccer cards are in desperate need of true collectors these days. I don't think soccer card rookies compare well to other sports at this time. Nothing is as iconic as the Jordan rookie, and nothing is as sought after as the 52 Mantle.
I don't think Messi is going to ever break into that big 3. That Messi rookie is pop 600 (about), Mantle is 1600. Jordan's 86 Fleer is 24,000....... Even the 2000 Tom Brady is pop 7,000. Jim Brown, another iconic football rookie card is pop 4500.
I think Jordan is a better gauge because it's more current, and it's clearly- SIGNIFICANTLY more iconic and more popular. Now, Messi is probably the better investment at this time due to the low pop count, but it just shows the disconnect between soccer cards and other American sports.

Lots of.collectors in Europe, but it's a different world than Americsn cards.

@@stereomois agreed- I actually meant we need more American collectors. I know a lot of guys in Europe, Asia, South America collecting.....I think I might try putting together Messi's Mega Crack Insert set, or his complete Mega Crack base set in mid grades. I can't afford the higher stuff at this point
I also want to put together a few specific 1 season complete team sets in a decent grade. I really would like to start with the 2008 AC Milan squad. I really loved watching that team play

Would have been better perhaps to show the Mantle and Mays rookie cards, but interesting video non-the-less.

Just a quick FYI mate. The 52 topps Mantle is not his Rookie Card. That would be 51 Bowman.

Sure, same can be said for Jordan Fleer, Cruyff Palirex, Pele 58's, Willie Mays and so on. But for the sake of the video I was trying to choose the iconic early card.

Average hobbyist probably doesn’t even know Cruyff let alone his card
