My grandmother knew him when she was a kid. He was very good friends with her father. She said he was lovely and reasonably unassuming when sober and awful when drunk. She described him as "absolutely charming but when he was drunk my god he was awful!" She once saw him in a pub destroying the fireplace with half a dozen policemen trying to hold him down 😂. But he didn’t have that typical Northern Irish accent. He spoke more grand like allot of upper middle class protestants did at the time. His accent sounded more like the queens English with a slight Irish twang. She also told me that he was almost certainly a homosexual which was illegal back then. So no one ever brought it up with him but they all knew. She's 90 years old as still talks about him regularly.

He knew his poetry. Good man.

Strange fact about combat, there are always more wounded than killed in an engagement. Oddly in this show everybody gets killed stone dead. No moaning, nothing. Even with the murder of civilians on Crete, it would be very unusual for the entire group to be dead outright.

The Paddy Mayne character has to be one of the strongest on screen presences i've seen in a very long time. The whole show is superb to a man. As was said back in the day "Jolly good show sir"

If you search for details of this actor and the role he played in this, the search results that come up show the main complaints are of his poor performance and the diabolical representation of the real 'Paddy' His family aren't happy with the complete misrepresentation of him either, and it is that one actor that makes the whole entire 2 series so hard to watch, I watched it on planner so could FF most of the crap acting and all the boring parts.

I really don't see any inappropriate delivery here. Paddy seems bizarrely over-reactive; like he doesn't want to go to Burma. Like he doesn't want to take the paradise with his boyfriend. Eve Mansour is a 100% fictional character, and as played by the eternal teenager and sweet lamb Sofia, she is simply a screen adaptation of a joke about a spy.😂😂😂 By the way, why the hell do they pour alcohol and sell cigarettes to teenagers?🤣🤣🤣

This role doesn't suit Jack O'Connell at all. It would be far more suited to someone with the physical presence & quiet menace of say, a young Clive Owen. Jack is a fine actor, his role in '71 was very memorable & likeable. I doubt Blair Mayne was this boorish & I'd imagine him to have been a lot better spoken & quiet.

Very over-rated show

In real life, Stirling did not refuse to integrate the French. It was even quite the opposite : he asked De Gaulle to "borrow" French paratroopers in England. There were too few SAS men and he needed experienced men quickly. Nowadays there are English and French SAS, with the same motto (Who dares wins/Qui ose gagne). Incredibly brave men. Long live the Anglo-French friendship

Paddy Mayne's accent is a bit shit. Northerner, Lancashire>? Mayne was from County Down, the accent isn't even close.

This is shite pure and simple. Blair Mayne, his character, his personality, his bravery and his achievments have been dragged through the dirt by this series, to entertain a bunch of Gen Z empty heads who haven't got it in them to actually open a book and read it, assuming they can. I'm from.Blair Mayne's country and his generation. This parody of the man is a travesty and a disgrace.
