We are Ellie and Graham.
We travel the UK in Merlin with our three little dogs, Maya Jazz and Luna.
Our love of outdoors combined with Ellie’s post-cancer complications means our Campervan Merlin is a perfect solution. A great way to explore nature on good days and a cosy little bolt-hole for others.
We bought Merlin in 2021 after six years of travel in our motor home Merv.
Whilst we enjoyed our adventures in Merv, we wanted something smaller so we could explore those places off the beaten track. Hence Merlin.
Initially we only used campsites, but as time goes on we are going off-grid more regularly and really loving it.
The aim of the channel is to reveal the true beauty of nature whatever the weather! We also feel it’s important to show the reality of van life, and not just the good bits when the sun is shining.
Whatever the weather, our motto is to just get out in nature. It’s good for the Soul.

30 amp fuses and 10 amp wires??????
I don’t think that’s correct. That wouldn’t be safe.
All I can say is best of luck to you both in the future and hope everything works out. Cheers K.
Thanks Karl. I hope your travels in Spain are working out well for you and you’ve been able to avoid some of the rain we hear about. I’m sure it’s mostly sunny ☀️. Had a good period of weather here in South Wales actually. Drive carefully. 🚐🙏🧙♂️
Good to see you again! 😊
Thanks very much 👍🙏🚐
Appreciate your update, thank you very much. Keep up the good work, Graham, with the loss of every gramm you will feel better. 👍Well done. 👍 I am sorry for your not so good news, dear Ellie, I can comprehend your situation so well, because I'm in a similar position. Early menopause (in my case), thin stature, within two years two rounds of chemotherapy (actually third to last infusion), so osteoporosis is always a topic. But I resist with indoor rowing for many years, yoga like you do and keep moving almost every day. Working out with weights is the only thing I additionally should do, but my goog old, worn joints ... ☺ But we can make it, Ellie, I'm convinced! Wish you all the best, take care, Gabriela 👋🌝
Hi Gabriela. What an inspiration you are ❤️ keep up the good work! It sounds like you are doing everything you can to keep your bones healthy. Our ‘bone’ journeys sound very similar. I’ve always been fairly thin, and had lots of chemo like you. I’m reading up on everything I can, with a view to making some sort of plan. Then I can just implement it ( ha ha) I have started doing a few weights ( at home. Nothing too heavy) plus physio, plus yoga and walking. Diet may need modifying. Haven’t tried rowing though. Takes a lot of time doing all this stuff though doesn’t it? I’m sure it will be worth it! Take care of yourself ❤️😊👍
Thanks for the update and hope and wish you well on the treatment ….. well done Graham on weight loss - that’s a ‘turkey’ you have lost - amazing Keep trucking guys and enjoy your travels
Thanks both ❤️Once we have a plan it will all become a lot easier. Take care and safe travels ❤️😊👍
Puddle jumping at any age is joyous xxx
Isn’t it just?😉 love seeing the world through her eyes too ❤️😊👍
So sorry to hear about Ellie's decision but I'm sure you'll make the right one for you. Well done Graham on your weight lost. Glad to hear doggies are doing ok please give them extra cuddles xxx Looking forward to your next vlog xxxx
Hi Yvette. Thank you for your kind wishes ❤️. Hope you’re doing Ok. The doggies enjoyed their cuddles !🐶🐶🐶. Have a lovely weekend ❤️😊👍
Thank you for updating us. Graham has done so well. Sorry to hear Ellie that you've had some not so good news, but you are so positive that i think that will hopefully help you as well as medication. Sending my very best wishes to you both
Hi Andrew. Thanks for your kind comment ❤️. We are getting there. Once things settle down and we have a proper plan it will get easier ❤️😊👍
Ellie have you heard of MBST? It might be something you wish to explore. I have similar medical issues. I am very much against medications because they often bring with them unpleasant side effects. Sadly MBST is not available on the NHS
Hi Alison. I haven’t ( though randomly I’ve just bought a book on magnet therapy🤣) it sounds fascinating. Do you know if they have run many trials on the effectiveness? I love the idea of therapies such as these. Far more gentle with far less side effects. I was lucky to get a few sessions of acupuncture on the NHS for pain management a year or so ago. Game changer. Just wish I could get more sessions. Take care 😊👍❤️
@ My physio introduced MBST into the UK quite a few years ago and many have benefitted including myself. It’s not permanent and needs topping up as necessary. Sadly it’s expensive (keeps me mobile so I bite the bullet) but there are a lot more centres now in the UK.
Hi Ellie. I have taken steroids for many many years (over 40 years) and have also taken Alendonic acid for around 15 years with a couple of holidays which is what is recommended. Like any drug there are side effects but so far touch I have been fine on it and importantly it has protected my bones.
Hi Richard. Thank you❤️. So pleased to hear that you are doing well on both steroids and Alendronic acid. Especially after all this time. Sounds like the medication is working really well for you👍. Take care ❤️👍😊
Sorry to hear of your health Ellie and I hope that everything goes well for you, and well done Graham on your weight loss, fingers crossed for positive results ❤
Hi Steve. Thank you ❤️. Once we have a plan things will get better. Just a bit overwhelming at the moment. Take care ❤️👍😊
🤍
Thanks Julie ❤️😊👍
Well done on your positivity. That goes a long way in helping you stay well. Hope you get some great additional advice on the infusion, Ellie. Stay well! N&Nx
Thanks both❤️100% with you on the positivity. Just try to take things one day at a time. We do miss having time to edit/film as much as we try to get our heads round it. But we will get there. Safe travels ❤️👍😊
Thanks for the update and praying that Graham’s results, Ellie’s medication and the fur gals will be alright. Jazz is definitely telling you that she is happy and excited since her cute tail doesn’t stop wagging. My maltipoo is also like that when she gets excited or happy. Take care and stay positive. With a positive attitude, good health will come!
Thanks Sophia ❤️. Staying positive is definitely key! Jazzy is such a little optimist who always makes us smile despite all her health issues. Such a good example of positivity 😉We will get there. Take care ❤️👍😊
Thank you for the update. Graham is doing so well with his diet. Are you following a specific publicised diet or have you just cut down on stuff?
Hi Kevin. Thanks for commenting. Basically two things. Or three if you count I normally don’t eat breakfast now. Portion control is very important and I’ve got used to smaller portions now but the main thing is I try not to consume too much sugar. Sugar will drastically affect my diabetes so that is the main thing I avoid. Not all the time but mostly. It’s a slow process but I am getting there. Hope things are good with you. 🚐🙏🧙♂️🐶🐶🐶
Sorry to hear of your osteoporosis issues Ellie. I am in much the same dilemma having worrying levels of osteoporosis in the spine and being reluctant to take the medications or have the recommended six monthly injections as I too can react badly to prescription drugs. My husband has severe osteoporosis and some years ago was given yearly infusions which had to be discontinued as he developed severe joint and muscle pain. He has started the six monthly injections and so far has had no adverse side effects. I will be interested to hear what you decide to do. Glad to hear that Graham is going well with his diabetes journey.🙏🏻💕
Hi Lyn. Thank you ❤️. Yes Graham is doing pretty well. It’s helping us both to eat more healthily. Just hope we can keep it up! Fully appreciate your dilemma with the injections and really sorry to hear that we are both in the same boat. ( though really so pleased to hear that your husband is doing well on the new medication so far 🤞👍) I’m gathering all the information I can at the moment before I decide either way (my first injection isn’t for a few months) I’ve bought loads of books and I’m also seeking advice on diet, supplements and exercise. It’s very hard to know what to do for the best isn’t it? Hoping I will come to a conclusion in time. Take care ❤️👍😊
Lovely to see you enjoying the sunshine and sorry Ellie to hear your news. I'm sure you will make the right decision that is best for you. Well done Graham on your weight loss - huge achievement. Miss your videos but appreciate the update. Btw I'm enjoying the sunshine as I'm currently in Australia - weather is a bit different to that of the Outer Hebrides! :)
Yes I bet the weather is in stark contrast to OH. Thanks for your kind message and hopefully we will be back to normal in the near future. Stay safe on your travels. 🚐🧙♂️🐶🐶🐶🙏👍
Well done Graham on the weight loss. Sorry to hear about you Ellie and I hope that you make a decision that you are happy with. Jazz is such a sweetie. The joy of watching children enjoy themselves in nature is something money can’t buy. Loved Grahams ending sequence. Take care Gill
Thanks Gill❤️. The drum sequence was 👌🏼wasn’t it 🤣? Hope you are well. Graham is doing very well so far. The tricky bit is going to be handling Christmas as we both love sweets and chocolate 😬 I’ve resisted mince pies so far. ( unheard of 🤣Usually as soon as they hit the shelves I’m eating them! ) take care ❤️😊👍
Firstly nice to hear from you both again. Well done Graham that’s brilliant, Sorry to hear your news Ellie - sounds like a difficult decision for you. Look forward to your videos when you are ready. Love to you both and the doggies of course, David & Rachel ❤
Thank you both and lovely Roxy ❤️. Hope you are well. It does feel like there’s rather a lot going on at the moment! We do miss having more time for filming and editing and also for catching up properly with everyone. Do take care both ❤️👍😊
My word you do have a lot going on. I hope you can find something Ellie that you can tolerate to address the osteoporosis 🙏🏽🤞🏼🙏🏽. Had a bit of a wake up call myself last week and as a retired nurse I should know better….life eh and the joys of ageing 🙄. But Graham you are doing brilliantly, so impressed. Wishing you both and the wee doggies all the best x
Hope you’re doing OK Ruth and that whatever it is isn’t too serious and can be sorted❤️🤞I think we know what we need to do (mostly). But it’s so hard doing it!!! Do take care of yourself ❤️😊👍
It was lovely to see you both .Jazz is gorgeous, such a lovely character ,both of you take care 😊X
Thank you so much. Appreciate you saying that. Hopefully we will be back to normal very soon. 😎🚐🧙♂️🐶🐶🐶
I had to take Alendronic Acid for 3 years for Osteopenia and Calcium D3 and it’s caused me gut problems in the form of Acid Reflux so I am now on Esomeprazole 40mg. I’m afraid you need to do impact exercises to keep your bones strong (or so I was told) so join a gym Ellie 👍 Cheryl x
Hi Cheryl. Thanks for your comments ❤️. It’s a bit of a bugger when taking one medicine causes something else isn’t it? Some people are fine and it seems to hit others harder. Hope you’re doing OK🤞. Take care ❤️👍😊
Well done on the weight loss, Graham, you’ll have that diabetes reversed in no time 👍 Sorry to hear your news, Ellie. Hope you find a treatment solution that is best for you. Good to see you both smiling and we look forward to watching your next adventure. Take care ❤
Hi both. Hope you’re doing well too Ken🤞. We are rather behind with TH-cam at the moment as you know. Look forward to catching up! Take care and safe travels ❤️👍😊
as a man who is extrealy ill and didnt rearlly have a choice but siilar to you i was on high dose steroids for many year's but while sitting down i placed my hand in my pocket and bang i fractured my spine and i cant describe the pain was so intense , its called a pathological fracture when you have a fracture without any accident . i have been on alondronic acid for 5 years and i wouldnt change things but it is a nasty drug basically you can not receive any dental treatent and your teeth will start falling apart , hope all the best for you both and your the only one who can decide
Hi Andrew. We were so sorry to hear about what’s happened to you. Must have been incredibly painful. It sounds as though the medicine is helping your bones but not without some issues. Some folks seem fine on it don’t they? , but it’s clearly not always the case. Do take care of yourself ❤️😊👍🤞
Thanks for the update. Ellie you are so positive and upbeat. You inspire us all to keep our glasses half full rather than half empty. Stay safe and take it easy. ❤❤❤❤
Hi both. Thank you for your lovely comment❤️. We will get there! Safe travels ❤️👍😊
Nice to see you again. You do seem to get good medical care .xxxx
Yes we are very lucky with the care that we’ve had. There is a lot of criticism of Our NHS but we have been incredibly lucky. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏👍 xxx
Jesus H Christ. xxxxxxx to you both
Thanks ❤️. Sure all will be well. Take care ❤️👍😊
Thanks for the update! ❤️ Health is always most important
Thanks Cat. She does well really doesn’t she ❤️🚐🧙♂️ xx
Always ❤️. Thanks Cat ❤️😊👍
Hi guys, sorry to hear your health news! Hopefully everything will resolve itself! Fully understand Ellie's apprehension about certain meds. I had a really bad reaction to the Shingles vacination but nothing from the Covid. Hope Graham's diabetic journey continues to be positive. I suffer from arthritis so managed things around it. Sadly, two weeks ago I badly strained my Trapezius muscle which went into spasm and I ended up in hospital. As a result I am unable to drive the van atm which us frustrating! Thankfully the strong pain meds and physiotherapy are helping. Oh the joys of getting older!😂 Hope things continue to improve for you both. Stay safe. Sid and Nicola, Rugby
Hi Sid and Nicola. Thanks for your lovely comments. Hope you continue to improve Sid. Those physios know what they are doing😉. Also hope the arthritis isn’t too bad. 🤞 The first Shingles jab was by far the worst for me too. But the shingles booster was fine. No side effects at all. Many people are perfectly fine with it. Odd how our immune systems work! As you say, the joys of getting older. Do take care both of you ❤️👍😊
Gosh it’s so difficult and must be taking up so much time on top of everything else. So sorry to hear your news Ellie. But you alway seem so positive so just keep going and hopefully the decision will come to you over time. And well Graham for the weight loss - that’s some achievement!! I really do need to do something about mine soon. The RSPB is a strange one - we were members but always found the reserves were rammed. So now belong to the Wildlife Trusts as our local reserve is one. Love that crazy Cozy Powell sequence again 😃😃 Stay safe and stay as well as poss you two.
Thank you both. Your lovely comments really help us ❤️. Graham has found the weight loss ok so far. Just slower than he would like 😉I’m busy doing all the research I can about my bones before making a decision 😬 . Luckily Merlin is a great motivator to stay as fit and active as possible! Take care and safe travels ❤️😊👍
Thanks for the update. Well done on the weight loss, I am at 15kg for the year and a lot more needs to go. Sorry to hear your news Ellie hope they can come up with something that works, I have an on off relationship with the RSPB currently not a member due to height barriers when we were last down south. Take care stay safe.
Hi both. Thanks for commenting ❤️Well done losing 15kg! Keep up the good work. Takes time doesn’t it? Our RSPB membership pack has finally arrived 🤣. Only taken 6 years! If I wasn’t a crazy bird lady I would have cancelled years ago 😉. Take care both of you 👍❤️😊
Hi David. Well done you as well on the 15kg. It can be a hard slog. I’m trying to change for the long term and hopefully it will work. I have to say I do feel a lot better. Yes I saw one of your vlogs where you were talking about it. Bunging in height barriers to stop folks who are self contained is madness. Hope you are both good. Take care yourself. 🙏🥰🧙♂️🐟
Hi guys, thanks for the update. Graham, well done mate, your looking good. Ellie, difficult decision for you, but I'm sure your make the right one. I have a bone scan every few years because I've been taking steroids on and off for years for Asthma/COPD. Luckily, my bones are OK. My specialist is trying to keep me off the steroids. I'm now using an injection every four weeks, Mepolizumab. Time will tell 🤞 Anyway, have you warned Phil Collins about his competition on the drums 🥁 Both take care 👍🐸
Hi Simon. Thanks for your lovely comments ❤️ Graham’s doing OK 👌🏼 isn’t he? So far he’s found the weight loss not too bad. Just a bit slower than he’d like🤣. Sounds like you know all about steroids! So pleased to hear you are being well looked after by your specialist and that your bones are OK. Hope the new meds really help you too🤞. It’s encouraging to see new medicines coming through all the time. Take care Simon xx😊❤️👍
Health decisions are so difficult. I now do serious research into any drugs. The one you mentioned I believe can give you mouth cancer. It was one of the reasons I refused chemo this time. It worries me just how high a risk many drugs are these days. I am sure with plenty of research and some searches on TH-cam you can come to a wise decision. I wish you well.
Hi Warnz60. Thank you for your kind comments ❤️. I know that many people are perfectly OK with the medicine. I guess it depends on the individual doesn’t it? But once you have certain health complications it’s really important to think really carefully about your own position going forward . Definitely not straightforward! We wish you well! ❤️🙏. Do take care of yourself ❤️👍😊
Well done Graham for losing weight. You look alot healthier now. I have also lost over a stone without a drastic diet and feel alot better for it.
Hi Mel. Well done you👏! That’s amazing. Keep up the good work. It’s amazing the difference it makes. Thanks for your kind comments ❤️😊👍
Awe, hope you can come to a decision about your health Ellie. I totally get it with the immune system 😮 but do what YOU feel best love. As for gray he's looking very trim and handsome 🤭😁 keep going guys. Till we meet again all our love 🥰💙🏴🚐🩷
Hi Chrissy. Aw thank you for your lovely comments❤️. You know where we’re coming from 🥰. Would love to meet up with you again. Hugs to you both ❤️👍😊
@Wizardinthewild 🥰🩷💙
Thanks for the update, yes miss the vlogs but your health and wellbeing are the most important thing. Hope things improve 🙏. Glad to hear the 🐕's are doing reasonable - definitely know the feeling. Take care and catch up soon 👍
Hi Tim and Rachel. You certainly do know the feeling ❤️We are doing OK thanks. Just pacing ourselves much more. Thanks for your kind comments. Take care both x😊👍❤️
I had the flu jab when it first came out I was so ill, I said never again. I had the first 2 covid vaccines, the first was fine the 2nd changed my life, I've not been able to work due to light-headedness and memory issues. My Dr's no help and puts it down to anxiety. Xx Very good Graham xx
That's awful 😖 what are these doctors doing? Hope all be ok in the long term.
Hi Yvonne. That’s awful. You poor lady. There were so many Covid vaccines weren’t there? So sorry to hear of your experience with the Covid and also flu jab. Often subsequent vaccines are better but I guess it’s not a given is it? Really hope you will improve in time. Take care of yourself ❤️🙏
Have missed your vlogs and I'm really pleased to see you are all doing so well. Looking forward to seeing how you progress xxx
Hi Yvette. Thanks for your kind comment ❤️. We’ve missed everyone too! We will be in touch again before too long😉. Take care ❤️😊👍
Glad you’re getting on top of your diabetes uncle Graham. We’ve been camping before so I understand what you say about convenience foods I have to say Through a Greggs sausage and bean pasty is my go to carry on all your good work and exercising and you will get through it. Eat less processed food and you will smash it
Hi Victoria. Thanks for your comments❤️. It’s certainly a slow old process. Resisting Greggs is certainly a bit of a challenge when on the road 😉. Processed food is so easy and convenient! ( and tasty!) Hope you’re well ❤️👍😊
Thank you for the updates,so glad you both OK,I know you have had some struggles hope you both be back to full heath really soon. Yes we have all missed you both and doggies but your heath must come first sorry doggies been poorly hope they soon be fully recovered, thank you for the update your all in my prayers and thoughts. God bless you all .love Michael uk care home resident xx
Thank you Michael. Good to hear from you. The break has certainly helped us we feel much better about things. The dogs do seem much better at the moment thank goodness. Things have improved. Hopefully back to normal soon. 🚐🧙♂️🙏👍
Nice to hear it’s all going well 🙏🇦🇺🤍
Thank you Julie. It’s certainly helped us. 🐶🐶🐶🙏👍🚐🧙♂️
It's lovely to see you both and keep up the good work. Enjoy Scotland 😊X
Thanks very much. The break has certainly helped us. 🧙♂️🚐🙏👍
Nice to see you on screen and travelling again - looks like a good break to sort things out and that was the right priority - great weight loss and I know how good that feels - I list 1.5 stone on Keto recently although not a long term diet Stay safe and enjoy Scotland
Well done on your weight loss. It’s always a struggle to lose weight but I am quite motivated at the moment. Long may it continue. Hope you are both keeping well. We need to get back in the grove and get up to date with your vlogs. Take care guys 🚐🧙♂️👍🙏
Good to hear you are all ok. Have you seen ‘Mastering Diabetes’ by Cyrus Khambatta? He also has a TH-cam channel. This is a fully plant based approach.
@@lyndaburrzz9303 hi Lynda that sounds amazing! Not heard of him but will definitely take a look! Love that it’s plant based. Thank you ❤️👍😊
Good to see you are doing o.k. and the dogs. Xxx
Thank you Isobel. Appreciate your support. Xxx🚐🧙♂️👍
So glad to see hoomans and furkids looking and doing well. Please continue to take care of yourselves first, enjoy yourselves and don’t worry about editing and posting videos. Graham looks great with his weight loss. I am also one that advocates diet and exercises over medication. Looking at Grahams, I should restart my weekly walking too!
Hi Sophia. Thanks ❤️ He’s pretty determined to avoid the meds if he can. I have my fingers and toes crossed. Takes a bit of discipline doesn’t it? We do have a treat each day ( usually a chocolate covered date😉) He’s got blood tests coming up soon. Really hope he’s done enough🤞. Walking lots really does seem to help. Take care 😉👍❤️
You both look relaxed on your wonderful trip so fingers crossed the whole holiday went well and that the girls enjoyed it too once the nasty cold bug disappeared bless them….. Re meals: One thing we like to do in the van when we set off is take a cooked chicken (free range form m&s are tasty) with us (no good for you Ellie sorry but to give Graham a meat fix?) but it’s versatile as you can heat is up and have some with veg (or chips😋) one night, have it cold it’s a salad another, use a little in a stir fry with lots of veg and cashew nuts etc etc. Of course stir fries are good as you’re only using a wok and can just have veg and nuts in it for you Ellie? Other meals we take frozen like ratatouille as that can be enjoyed with pasta, with a sausage cut up, with a jacket potato, it could be spiced up by adding a little chilli sauce too. Making things ahead and freezing them then utilising the freezer compartment of our fridge works for us and as a lot of our meals are veggie we worry less about them. Anne makes some lovely aromatic curries with butter beans, chickpeas, even mushrooms work well. They don’t take too long to cook in the van if we are away for a while and can’t take everything pre made! Hope those ideas are useful! Well done Graham, a stone is a lot to lose. You’ve done really well. Take care all and we look forward to seeing some of the summer sun in the winter as you say. Big hugs to the girls. Best wishes Anna, Anne & Sasha xxx🚐🐶🐶🐶🐶☀️👍🥾🍻😋💕💕💕
Hi both. Thanks for your lovely comment and for all the brilliant ideas!❤️. Love the idea of cooking a simple base recipe and adding some different things to use it for different meals. I often batch cook at home ( curries/chillies etc) so maybe I need to do extra for Merlin. Love the sound of those veggie curries. Yummy. Quite a learning curve. Though we definitely want to eat better not just for now but always. So well worth the effort. Thanks again. Take care ❤️👍😉🐶🐶🐶
Thank you very much for the update, it's good to see, that things are not too bad. Walking (and a reasonable diet, of course) is key for any therapies, so move on with the good work. 👍 Whish you and your four legged sweethearts all the best and wellbeing. Sincerely, Gabriela ☀️👋
Thank you Gabriela. Yes walking is my main exercise but I also like cycling. I guess as much as I can do will be good. Totally aware that it’s a lifestyle change that I need to thanks for all your support. It helps a lot. 🧙♂️🚐👍🧙♂️
Thankyou for the update. Don't be concerned about the lack of videos. As we all know, our health is more important. Take care both of you. 😊
Thanks for your kind words David. Hopefully some proper vlogs before Christmas. 🚐🧙♂️👍🙏
Thank you for the update, it is lovely to see you both again and looking well. A doctor once said to me that no matter what changes you make to your diet, you have to make sure that you still enjoy your food. Take care 💕
Thanks Lyn❤️. That’s such sound advice. No diet is sustainable if it doesn’t taste good. Impossible to stick to! We are hoping that a big de- junk and portion control will make a big difference 🤞. Take care ❤️😊👍
