How To Avoid Hitting A Bridge or Overpass! #driveaway #trucking #trucker
It seems some truck drivers find it difficult to navigate under bridges and overpasses without hitting them. Here are some sure fire tips on keeping you from hitting the next overpass or bridge you come to. I know it might be a stretch for some, but seriously, give these tips a try! It just might keep you from becoming the spotlight on a TH-cam fail video! And should there be nothing in your truck that tells you the height. Always assume your truck is 13' and 6" high, even if you're in a bobtail!

POV - Using a Pintle Adapter To Hook Up To A Dump Truck
มุมมอง 204หลายเดือนก่อน
In this driveaway video, I'll be taking a Dump Truck from Ohio to Montana. It'll be 1600 miles and I'll be using my pintle adapter on my Blue Ox towbar. This video is just showing you how I use my pintle adapter to hook up to trucks with pintle hooks. I will leave a link to where you can get a pintle adapter like the one in the video in case you need to purchase one. Tier1 fabrication has them ...

Jadens Thermal Printer Review
มุมมอง 1.9K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video, I'm going to review this nifty Jadens thermal printer I bought off of Amazon. Many times I will get new loads while on the road and have to hunt down a truck stop or try and get them printed at a motel I'm staying at. But with this Jadens thermal printer, I don't have to worry about that any longer. This is just a quick review of this little thermal printer, I've only printed abo...
Top 5 Reasons People Fail Driveaway

If you stay in driveaway for any amount of time, or even trucking, you'll hear a lot of people make excuses as to why they fail. Low rates, bad dispatchers, low paying companies, etc. but those aren't really the reason people fail in Driveaway or even trucking. Here are the top 5 reasons I see people fail at driveaway time after time. It's almost always one of these 5 reasons why people hang it...
Hooking Up To A Semi POV

This was just a short run from Oklahoma to Missouri. This is my 4th attempt at making a POV driveaway video hooking up to a truck. This time a Kenworth T680. I've really struggled capturing all the work I'm doing with this new camera. While I didn't capture everything I was doing, I think it will be good enough for most of you to understand what I'm doing and my process. Did you spot what I for...

Just a driveaway video I made over a year ago. This was a short run I was doing on my way home. Thought it would be a quick pick-up in the morning and done by Noon or so. LOL, yeah right! As you can see from the Title, I'm going from Des Moines to Kansas city. Nice little run that was paying the minimum pay for runs under 300 miles! I cover some tips on driveaway while I wait on my truck to be ...

I was at a Lowe's in Wisconsin killing time. I always go to the trailer section of any store that has one. You just never know what you will find! Stores like Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, Walmart, Harbor Freight, etc all carry at least a few adapters, hitch balls, etc. that can be used in driveaway

Driving Towards A Tornado - Dat Driveaway Life

How I Use Motive For Multiple Driveaway Companies
มุมมอง 5377 หลายเดือนก่อน
A lot of confusion out there about how to use Motive (formerly Keep Trucking) app for multiple driveaway companies. I've even had several people say they just fill the entire app out each day. Wow, that's a lot of unnecessary work if you ask me. I'm in no way insinuating I'm an expert on Motive or keeping log books. This is the way I was shown to do it and of the 4 companies I've been leased to...
Thanks, trying to figure out what lights to get for my ford ranger. Not sure where to mount them on the bed.
I've seen a guy in a Ford ranger that took a 2x4 and ran it across the back of his bed and installed lights to it. I assume he C clamps the board onto the rail.
@@DrivingWithDon good idea . thanks
Spring loaded visor!!! Lol!
Do you drive during the winter? I ask because your car is a fwd. I'm getting into the business with a fwd crv so I'm wondering how you do it.
Yes, but I try and stay out of the snow and ice by running South and Southwest mostly. I watch the weather closely and if I think I can run North between systems and get back out before they hit, I will chance it. Been caught a few times.
What company is good to work for and which one to stay away from
Whether or not a company is good or bad is entirely up to you and whether or not that company fits your needs. Here is a list of companies I give people who need a place to start. driveawayguide.com/company-ratings/
What is a good company to get with and what company to stay away from

@@DrivingWithDon wow thanks
Just a quick question do I have to use a ball or can I just use a straight rail roadmaster Tobar set up with those accessories
About to start my journey with drive away. What places can I go to have my tow equipment installed and can you give me a list of tow equipment and or tools I should carry???
Most RV dealers can install a baseplate on your car. I also believe Dan's in Elkhart will do it. As for the equipment you'll need, if you look back through my videos, I think I have two on that subject.
Ok. Thank you.
Dead head 1000 miles but there was trucks to be picked up? Wow your killing the industry dude
There were too many other things to do on the 1000 miles back home besides picking up trucks. All work and no fishing makes Don a dull boy!
Wow your half the problem in driveaway
There's a problem in driveaway? I wasn't aware. Guess I've been too busy lately ;)
U left your dog in the car??????
when I drove a truck I always parked away from the bathroom so I would get some exercise while I was stopped.
I’m curious…. How do you take your dog on a drive-away?
He rides in the car. I have his bed in there. Now that it's getting hot in some parts of the country, I idle the car with the A/C on and with window shades up.
@@DrivingWithDon that’s awesome. I have two dogs. They have kept me from pursuing drive away.
@@janbanks3264 there are times that it is challenging for sure. I basically started doing it out of necessity. There was a guy on the FB forums who used an old conversion van as a tow vehicle and I believe he had 4 dogs.
Hello. Thanks for this video. Can you make a video showing how to connect the lights in more detail?
I doubt it. I don't work for the company that does school busses any longer. I haven't moved on in about a year or so. Did you check out the school bus video by Pro DriveAway Man? I think he has some detail in his.
Still using this setup? I just bought a focus for this. Looking for all the tow accessories.
Yes, still using the Focus but it's getting old. Looking for a long bed Colorado now in a 4x4 with a V6. You can find the baseplate at etrailer.com, the tow bar you can buy used on FB marketplace and the hitches for the trucks can be found at Tier1 Fabrication t1fabrication.com

Heck yeah, I was wondering what to do in that situation, great info Don, thanks
Actually, since it already had a receiver, it would have been easier and quicker to use it, but I just felt the Pintle adapter is a lil more robust!

Who’s the best driveway company if you have a class b?
You can drive nearly everything in driveaway with a Class B. Of course, the few tractor and trailers that might come along would be the exception. Here's a list of companies. driveawayguide.com/company-ratings/
Hey Don, how can I reach you to talk a bit?
dondrives65@gmail.com is my email.
That motorhome was pulling an enclosed race car trailer. They stopped beside that pick up pulling an enclosed race car trailer. You are just up the road a few miles from a very popular race track.
You were in my neck of the woods holla at me next time and I can tell you some good places to eat. 😆 Mississippi is known for their gas station food that is better than most restaurants serve.
Don, what other app would you use? I have tried Hammer but I don't like it because it seems a little delayed on turns and such.
I don't care for Hammer either. Tried it multiple times. Unfortunately, out of all the trucking GPS apps I've used (and it's been almost all of them) Trucker Path is the best of the lot.
Any info on the electric set up to convert power from tractor to this kind if trailer ?
I have a short somewhere about the adapter I use. You can also hook directly into the wiring, some companies like Quality will sell you an adapter or companies like Tier1 should have adapters as well. t1fabrication.com/lighting-accessories
Is driveaway still decent money ? Can you make $200 per day after paying for a cheap motel and fuel on both vehicles ?
If you can manage your expenses and keep that left door closed, clearing $200 a day while transporting a unit won't be a problem.
Great video Don
Thank you!
😂😂😂😂😂😂 He said you got some pretty lips boy!!!😂😂😂😂😂
What type of vehicle do u have?
2 door Ford Focus
Nice nice 👍 Tip Don, Thank you for your review. I enjoy all your videos, T Y Sir.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
As far as I know: Turn the car on for a few minutes. Go through all the shift positions from the top to bottom. Go up till you are in neutral Turn the key back one click Make sure the steering wheel is not locked Check ebrakes
How about a breaking system. Do we need it?
Driveaway is exempt from braking systems.
I can't see anything that you are doing with that camera angle, gonna be doing this shortly wish I could've seen it so I can learn how to do it safely. But keep up the good work and enjoy your videos be safe and God bless
Good to know, I hate finding a place to print or going into the truck stop for it. I now carry a HP Office jet 100 mobile printer. Works great. Thanks for the video.
You're welcome. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Hello. I'm new to driveaway and desperately needed to know how to hookup my tow car to a semi. Boom your video popped up. Unfortunately, i can't really see what you're doing and all the equipment you're using. Also how heavy are those cross bars? I need to know if i can lift them.
I have some other videos on hooking up, you might check those out as well. The vehicle you are planning on using must have a base plate. I have a video also on what you'll need to hook up to a semi or other vehicle. As for weight, that particular pinch hitch (the one on the back of the semi) weighs about 60+ pounds. It can be a bit much at times!
DOT will have a fill day with this
That setup went through Wyoming and Montana scales and they couldn't have cared less. It's pretty much the same set up everyone running a box truck does.

Great video Don .Thank you
Thanks John!
Is that the regular style lift gate? Looks like a tuck under. Really want to figure out a way to put one on a truck with a tuck under lift gate but looks complicated. Do you just disconnect tow extension hitch when u want to use it? Also how much do you think that long extension is rated for? Seems okay for lighter weight towing but would be very scared with heavy towing. I need to tow an 8000lb wood chipper regularly for my small tree service business
You know, this video was made quite a while ago and I really don't remember what type of lift gate it was. But I've started using a pancake hitch from Tier1 Fabrication when I do take a lift gate truck. I try and not take them because they can be a pain to hook up to. As for that stinger (I also got it from Tier 1), I'm not sure what the rating is for. But I bet if you call Kris at Tier 1, he can tell you what it's rated for. His website is t1fabrication.com
So I looked up the anti rattle bracket and most on Amazon say 1.25 inch to 2 inch. Is that the one you get or do you get one for 2inch specifically? I have been putting Placards in side windows just making sure I can easily see over them and the front plate in the windshield. The first time I did I run I almost lost my Placards off the door taped outside. I have found the doors must be cleaned to make the tape stick and I don't want to scratch paint smearing dirt on the door to tape to it. I am sure I will run into one where I can't put it in the driver side window but by sliding it down into the window behind the seal till the numbers are as low as they can go I only have to run tape across the top.
I've used both. But I think these are the 1.25 to 2 inch ones. I've had them quite a while.
Great videos Don. You are the only person doing drive a way videos out . Glad to see any tool or hook up techniques that you use.
Thanks John. I appreciate the feedback. Kinda hard coming up with ideas for content! Have you seen Pro Drive Away Man's channel or the Driveaway Bros channel? Some good content there as well!

@@DrivingWithDon thank you so much for the info, im going to start working with them
That Uber took me right to bay & bay the first time. The woman over there was so nice and understanding!!! ❤
The first part of the video you were close to Des Moines, not Kansas City.
The clip of the truck wreck was just South of KC on I-49. I just cut the clip in two and put the very first part of it at the end of the video. The clip after the wreck, of me waiting on the truck, was in Des Moines.
Thanks for the info. Moving contrary to the crowd is usually the better move. Of course not always the case but often the case
Hey man got a way to contact you i just started driveaway n need some tips
dondrives65@gmail.com
Nice to hear somebody admit the dispatchers are hooking them up with loads they never looked for or that ever hit the load boards. Some of the guys on FB act like they are hustling ALL their on loads and if you can't do it you are just stupid. 🤷♂
Well, to be honest, I've only had this dispatcher for a lil over a month. The last was one did nothing. Prior to the new dispatcher, I was always on the load boards or pouring over email list with available loads trying to put something together. This new dispatcher is just making my life a helluva lot easier!
@@DrivingWithDon I know it would be.
Great stuff Don. The commentary on what to get and not get and why is valuable to newbs looking to get it right.
Thanks Grandpa, that's what I'm trying to do. I got this idea from Pro Driveaway Man on a video he did some time ago about things you could get from Walmart for driveaway.
