How I Use Motive For Multiple Driveaway Companies

  • A lot of confusion out there about how to use Motive (formerly Keep Trucking) app for multiple driveaway companies. I've even had several people say they just fill the entire app out each day. Wow, that's a lot of unnecessary work if you ask me. I'm in no way insinuating I'm an expert on Motive or keeping log books. This is the way I was shown to do it and of the 4 companies I've been leased too, their compliance departments have had no issues with me keeping logs this way. I've also have had two DOT inspections, one in Colorado and one in Texas, and neither had any problems with the way I kept my logs. But you do you. If you follow my examples here, you're entirely responsible for the way things turn out should you get a DOT Inspection and the officer doesn't like the way you keep logs! I can't control that! lol #motive #driveaway #logbook

Thanks John. I'm not really all that happy with it. I had to do a voice over and couldn't make out the video because my editing program made it so small. I just can't think of a better way to make the video.....but a v2.0 video will be out if I ever figure out a better way ;)

Do you log deadhead n the tow car? How about if you use public transportation to from point A to B either to next pick up or home.

Unless you're off duty in the town you're picking up in, you're supposed to log travel time to the unit as "On Duty". For example. Let's say I dropped a unit in San Antonio and I'm going to pick a unit up in Laredo. If I get to Laredo and can take at least 10 hours off duty time before picking up the unit, I do not have to log the time to Laredo. But if I drive (or fly or any other means of travel) to get to Laredo with the expectation of picking up the unit as soon as I get there, I must log that time as "On Duty".

@@DrivingWithDon Why is it considered on duty when on public transportation as you are not responsible for any duties?

@@Grandpa_RLP The red exclamation point is a feature on the App that tells me I need to do something. In this case, it's telling me I need to sign (digitally) my logs. Since it was a dummy account, I ignored it. As for the question about the "on duty" during public transportation, that is an age old debate, but from the DOT people I've heard explain it, basically, they consider you "at work" or "working" if you're headed to another pick-up.

You are making more work for yourself
The first company you signed on with, that company is your main company
Then your main company will activate
Motive on there end and you put in there information (Company name, address and DOT NUMBER) YOU do not have to put any other companies
Information on there, when working for other companies all you need is the unit number, and every 7 days you just send your Logs in to all the companies you work for even if you didn't do any trips for them that week
Way you are doing it, its like you are doing four Log book

You do have to have those others companies listed. If you're pulled into a weigh station or stopped for a roadside inspection and you have Copmpany A listed but you're pulling a unit for Company B but Company B is not listed, you're going to have some explaining to do to the Officer as to why you don't have Company B listed. By allowing one company to be primary, they will delete your account if/when you leave them, leaving you trying to retrieve all your past logs. You'll have no more access to that Motive account. Quality and Norton come to mind that pull this.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong! 😂
First off, you should NEVER let any Company be Primary. That's your first mistake.
Then, always list ONLY the Company you are driving for THAT DAY & only that Company.
Just change the Carrier name and address each day, as needed.
This is all extremely easy to do, only if you don't make the mistake of letting any Company be Primary.
