I have always loved solving problems. Instead of buying things off-the-shelf, I like to solve my real-world problems by making solutions myself.

1 - Basic (solved the problem)
2 - Aesthetic (looks good, but common)

Why thank you so much!! I appreciate it!
@ step 4, tip for cleaning after you sweep/vacuum up, take your leaf blower & blow your shop out. Be surprised how much you missed 😂
That's a fantastic tip! I forgot about the leaf blower, thanks so much!!
The only bee that would go in would be a solitary bee and that's kinda a dick move, they are harmless.
I hadn't thought about whether the bees are solitary or social, so that's a fair point. In our area, there seem to be a ton of them in mid-Spring to early summer, but they don't seem to really be together, whether in a trap or not.
WTF? So you can hang up a bottle? Yep, waste of time I will never get back.
Exactly! Level 1 solves the problem, but looks absolutely TERRIBLE! Level 2 will hopefully actually look good
It's sad to potentially harm bees just to protect a fence or deck.
Yeah, I wish there was a way to just deter them instead, but we have so many that nest all around. Fortunately, these traps seem to only attract the carpenter bees and not honey bees or other types. I should do some more research about whether deterring can work too though.
Love this bud! From functional to functional art!!! I may need to make one of these, the bees have been out of control on our deck this spring!
Thank you so much! Honestly, this is where I think I’m heading now. Tired of stuff that can be bought and want to surround myself with things I love, that also solve problems. You totally should!! Hmmm I wonder what a leather and wood bee trap would look like?
But, which one catpured the most?
That's a great question! So far, the Level 2 trap has captured the most with the Level 3 close behind and the Level 1 in last. Which one were you thinking would work the best?
What types of non-boring solutions have you made for your problems?
I'm 6'8" and my shop ceiling is 7'. It sucks in the wrong way.
Oh that would be so frustrating! That’s barely enough room for lights!
@SouthernStyleDIY indeed. Its 12x12, but it's far from the worst part lol. Summers coming, and with it comes the 125f days with +85% humidity. Lol. But it exists. (Wife is a nurse so we keep cool bags of IV fluid in fridge just in case. Lol.)
@carterscustomrods oh no!! And I thought it got hot in Georgia, but not near that bad!! Yeah that’s a fantastic thing to keep on hand
You need to tone down the music please pal in your future vids if you're keen to boost your subs, I found it way too loud and an unnecessary distraction.
Thanks for the feedback! Was it just the volume of the music, tone, or both?
For informational content such as this, I feel music is a distraction. Music sets a mood, which can be ok for a visual experience.
@rivernet62 gotcha! I really appreciate the feedback and make sure it syncs up better with tone. Thanks again!
Music is fine. It rocks like your enthusiasm. Mixed well w/hour dialogue.
Thank you so much!! I appreciate it!
2:41 burning the midnight oil
Gotta get it finished sometimes!!
That is so cool man! I love watching the process...so much goes into it, but the payoff is so worth it (easy for the guy who's just watching to say ha)!
Thanks so much Ethan! It was definitely a fun project to make and I’ve been keeping the case on my phone ever since. Now I want to make more!
Do you prefer to 3D print small pieces like this or kitbash like I did?
Awesome. I’m so gonna make this. Thanx. 😊
Thank you so much!! Hope yours turns out awesome!!
That’s not only a great setup, but looks great!!
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate it (especially coming from you having seen the awesome work you’ve done)!
That wire shelf guard is such a neat touch. Great looking glow up! Your ability to really capture that "space rode hard put away wet" feel is amazing
Thanks so much! The wire was a last second idea and addition, but I’m really glad I added it (and it was free too from some old cords). Yeah, I really want to start doing that style more and get better at it. Helps hide when things aren’t actually clean too haha!
Ok, this is so freakin cool!
Thanks so much! Wish I had been able to revive the weathering footage at least
Do you have any droids in your workshop?
Impressive, most impressive.
But I’m not a Jedi yet
That is so sweet looking. A tip, when spraying the letters, tape the back side of the letters and then tape the tape to your bench. That will keep them from flying away.
That is fantastic advice! Thank you so much!!
Awesome project...turned out totally...fine! haha
Thanks! It’s fine! I’m fine! No freaking out over here at ALLL!!
@@SouthernStyleDIY Hahaha love it!
Gotta love that part of a project where it all might go wrong
Hey you gotta ENJOY spending time in your shop, part of that is the action and part of that is the space itself. Looking DOPE!
Thanks so much and totally agree! Hopefully it’ll end up looking at least a little better after some weathering
Love the concept! Can't wait to see what you come up with to salvage the -bane- that is Gorilla Glue. 😆 - Joe
Thanks so much! Yeah, I should have anticipated that, but didn’t for some reason. Definitely hope it’s salvageable haha
Do you like your shop to be purely functional or have some personality?
You speak the truth sir.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
Hi That was an epic workshop org video. Just found your channel and worthy of a subscription. I will check out more of your videos and I look forward to the next one. Regards James One Handed Maker - Australia
Thank you so much, James! I really appreciate it! More coming soon too! Thanks, David
just like the big boys on youtube.. but only 600 subs. hope you make it buddy! keep goin´ 🤘
Thank you so much!! I was really happy to work with them. I appreciate it!
You're adorable 😉
Why thank you!
You should do a beginners shop guide! Or starter tools 101. One for general handyman and one for hobby projects
I might just have to do that, great idea! Oddly enough, the handyman one might be more difficult at least for me since those are my least favorite projects. Hobby ones though? Those get me going!!
I just went through this a couple weeks ago. I took two weeks off for Christmas and squared my shop up. This past year has been busy and I neglected upkeep of the shop, clearing enough space to complete a task - for over a year! Rather than making a list, I worked on shop improvement projects while cleaning the shop up. It took me over a week to get the shop cleaned up, but it came out nice.
That’s awesome!! Dang you had a lot of projects last year then, which is also awesome! Knocking out your list as you make it is a great idea since you carved out time to take care of all of it
I like the video BUT some of us, do not have a large shop to start with!! Myself, my work area is literally outside in front of my tool shed/workshop, so a lot of the work I do, requires me hauling everything I own outside in nice weather, do my work, then load it all back inside for safe keeping!! It is kind of a pain... BUT it also requires THAT I constantly put things away as I use them OR never getting things out I don't need in the first place!! And any items that I have that "comes out of my shop" are constantly put back immediately after I am done on a project, or I will never find them again!!
Oh wow! That’s a lot of moving back and forth, but fantastic that you’re so organized! Wish I was that diligent with putting things back. Do you have anything that helps with setup or keeping things together while you’re working outside?
That turned out great! Your video was suggested to me and I'm glad I watched. That was some impressive hand routing there, slow and steady.
Oh awesome! I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And thank you! It was pretty nerve wracking along the edges. Definitely thought I messed it up more than a couple of times
Great video! I struggle with this in my small shop as well. Especially during a multi day or week project. Plus my garage shop has regular garage stuff still in it, so that doesn't help.
Thank you so much! Yeah those long term projects take a toll for sure. Plus regular garage stuff doesn’t help either. I managed to isolate all of our kids’ stuff to an “in garage shed”, but that wouldn’t work for something like a vehicle
A video I need to watch thank you
Anytime!! Hope it helps!
My shop is a cluttered, useless shit hole.. I don't hove the power to sort it out. All i can do is watch people make stuff in perfect workshops.
A perfect workshop isn’t getting enough use haha! It’s always a constant process. A little here and there goes a long way. It can certainly be tough to tackle when it becomes too much.
"There are two types of people who will tell you that you cannot make a difference in this world: those who are afraid to try and those who are afraid you will succeed." -Ray Goforth
Very true!
Should I be able to edit your Notion template, or is it just a read-only file that is used to create my own? I do not seem to be able to add new items or edit yours. Thx.
Fantastic question! In the top right corner, it should let you duplicate it to your notion account. Once it’s there, it should let you edit absolutely everything. I’ll add that to the template as well. Thanks for asking! If that doesn’t work, I’ll find out why (my first Notion template and I might have missed a setting somewhere).
IT WORKED!!! THX @@SouthernStyleDIY
@Slabysz oh awesome!! Glad it worked!! If you think of anything that would make it better or that I can do to help, please let me know! Definitely want the templates to be as useful as possible and open to any feedback
I have two projects. Easy so far
Nice!! Keep it up!
I will do this tonight.
Awesome!! Hope it well, but let me know!
i need to tackle some shop organization. thanks for putting together this list.
It’s always top of mind at the beginning of the year (or after 5 or 6 projects). Absolutely! Anything you think I missed?
My OCD and ADD friends could not do this. Most would fail after step 3! Me, I'd begin to falter at step 2.... my big work surface is full! But, I like your ideas. Wish I could move all my benches!
Haha! I hear you. It definitely FEELS super counterintuitive until it all starts going back. Had to fight my own combo of OCD/ADHD to push through it (audiobooks help). Yeah, casters on just about everything is HUGE! One of the things I’m most glad I’ve done
@@SouthernStyleDIY I actually think this approach would *help* with my ADHD. It would mean I can block all the noise of need to make this storage, need to change that thing out and just get everything into one place and then move on from there. The noise would still be there but with a fixed task of get everything onto my workbench it becomes easier to push that noise out, or at least make it quieter. Just goes to show that the way one person is affected by ADHD and good coping mechanisms is different to somebody else. Makes each no less valid or correct. My real issue would be, how do I make the required storage and things as I put stuff back in step 6 when my workbench/outfeed table is full of all my crap 🙂 Enjoyed the video though and lots of good and interesting tips
Just love your videos btw!@@SouthernStyleDIY
@welshwoodco thanks so much! You’re definitely right about how everyone gets impacted a little differently. All part of the fun right? Honestly, what I’ve also done before is clear some floor space off to the side and/or put some kind of temporary thing together. Cheap sawhorses and a decent sized offcut of plywood can work in a pinch. Then you can see everything and not worry about cluttering up what you’re trying to clean
@NewTestamentDoc thank you so much!! I really appreciate it!
How do you keep track of your projects? Paper or digital?
🌈 Promo-SM
Wasn’t trying to self-promote. What made it seem that way though so that I steer clear in the future?
Too fast, no dimensions
Yeah it was a fast one. I might be able to find the dimensions for this one. It was awhile back (and by far not one of my better videos)
Those turned out great!
Thank you so much!! They were really fun to work on!
This was such a fun project! Barely finished by Halloween. How close have you come to a deadline before pulling of a build?
I'm a new subscriber and this is absolutely genius! I've got the same setup and dumb family stuff is always encroaching. LOL
Thank you so much! Yeah it’s been helpful. Still room for improvement that I want to build on here soon-ish
Great vid, do you know who the first music track is with the arpegio lead? Loved it
Thank you so much!! The first music track is Tomahawk by Tigerblood Jewel. I found it on Epidemic Sound for use in the video, but also found it here on TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/gJJybpzcOcQ/w-d-xo.html
What are the dimensions, and what did you measure?
I don’t remember the exact dimensions (and don’t have plans or the project anymore). From memory, it’s about 6” wide and 14” tall with the circular part being about 5” in diameter. I really based the dimensions on wanting to be able to put at least 2 bags of peanut M&Ms in it and about 3 coming out each turn
