I couldn't find anything before, but I just came across a very similar sound that was made with a Flexatone. I wanted to confirm that it was the same instrument, but apparently the usual way that it's played is with repeating hits, and Mugi's effect was done with a single hit. So it's hard to find samples with a single hit and probably impossible to get one with the right wavering and pitch shifting tempo, which seems odd if it is the right instrument cause I feel like this sound is used everywhere. Then multiple guitar parts are played by Azusa, which later are synced to play at the same time in the song's studio release (would be tricky for live performances). I also wanted to show that they probably used other equipment and settings for that second guitar cause it sounds different. If you listen closely you can hear the guitar on the left still playing during those times. Maybe I just covered the first guitar image up too much in this video. @@PERFECTLY_Wasted_Potential Ah thank you, wasn't sure if I was going to get a response with no recent history on the channel. I was wondering yesterday when I listened to this if her guitar was actually being played at the same time like that, and I was thinking of live performances so I couldn't wrap my head around how exactly this made sense, but I suppose it's the same as when a singer has their voice singing two different lines at once in a song, it's easy to do for a studio release. I understand this now, but about the rhythm guitars only and lead guitars only videos, I watched them yesterday as well but was confused, is it the same idea here, that the two could play at once, and sometimes three at once for the studio release? Unless I'm mistaken, the lead guitar is mostly azusa, except before the bridge, and the rhythm guitars are both girls for most of the song? I apologize if this doesn't make any sense, I'm mostly into piano/keyboard stuff as a former pianist and getting into k-on recently made me interested, as breaking down the music like this is really fascinating

@@gnostic2815 I still want to continue with some songs so the channel isn't over yet! I didn't understand the allocation much either if you go by what I thought in the beginning, Yui doing lead and Azusa rhythm. I think it's just not done this way because such a divide would leave a lot of idling for the 'lead' guitarist and no shine for the rhythm player so they switched it up in many songs, and for this song in particular the two rhythm guitars are already playing significantly different parts so it's natural to divide the parts between them both. So I feel in general though it's more like Yui - main guitars, Azusa - extra guitars. Also, since Azusa joined later when Yui was the only guitarist this already had to have been the case for early S1 songs. It's practically confirmed to be divided this way though, because of the official CD releases where they have 5 instrumental tracks in which they withhold 1 of each character's parts (but there are exceptions where some guitar parts but mostly keyboard FX seem to have been forgotten to be removed from any track so maybe the producers didn't think too hard about this), likely also it's noted in the official band score music books For live performances I think it makes the most sense to follow whatever is played in the live cassette versions of the songs, and for songs that don't have those versions like OP/ED you could assume for guitar the rhythm part would be dropped in favor of solos or leads as is the case in the PSP game versions of some songs like Cagayake GIRLS, or else you'd need extra guitarists or pre-prepared loops. You can also compare for example Mugi's parts in songs with a live version to those without any live versions like the OP/EDs, there's often multiple parts played at once without even counting the FX. In that case if people perform live most would only play her e-organ parts, the most dedicated would have buttons for FX loops, or maybe just have the full track in the background.

@@PERFECTLY_Wasted_Potential I've only heard four of those instrumental tracks where they withhold a part since I don't see one of them (the album might be missing from the multiple pages I checked on apple music), and that's another thing I didn't understand until now, I saw the titles say one instrument, but didn't realize it was removing one. I'm also curious, I didn't know there was official band score music books, are those easy to find? I tried the psp game once but might again, is there noticeable differences in the songs in the game?

GIRLS should have 5 of those tracks, the main band score book is called バンドスコア 放課後☆軽音部 but I don't think they're still making new copies, and in the PSP game the songs are shorter, all the instruments aren't the original ones and most of them seem to be electronic recreations. Yep, if performed live, I assume the rhythm part would be dropped during the solo and only the solo itself would be played. Technically there are 3 guitars played by Yui as the rhythm part is made up of two guitars panned left and right
