Airfield Quiz No1 - Eurofox 912is - Taildragger Pilot
มุมมอง 1106 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hi Guys, As I’m laid up in bed with the dreaded Covid, I thought I would keep my mind active, and put together an airfield quiz. Basically, you get three seconds to recognise the airfield. All airfields in the quiz have been screened on the GT-AV8R channel, so if you are a follower of the channel, you should have no trouble in recognising the air strips. Answers are listed below… try not to che...

Just Jane Engine Start - Avro Lancaster, Reg No. NX611
มุมมอง 1.3Kปีที่แล้ว
Last year, I flew in to an old EX RAF base called East Kirkby, in Lincolnshire to see Just Jane, who is a Avro Lancaster, Reg No. NX611, but as I said above, she is lovely called Just Jane. Jane is a Lancaster Bomber, that is being restored by enthusiasts on site. They taxi her around the small airfield, and run her up the short runway to just below take off speed, and then taxi her back to the...

Tricky Aircraft Landing at New Farm Airfield - EuroFox 912is Taildragger
มุมมอง 2.9Kปีที่แล้ว
Flight to New Farm Airfield in October 2023, located south of Sywell, in Northamptonshire, great reception by the owner for all those that flew in. The approach to RWY 26 is very open, however on the very short final approach, there are a few trees and a bridge to overfly, and once on the deck, the runway, as a bit of a slope that runs away to the 06 threshold. Nevertheless, if i can land there...

Flight to Cromer Airfield, and another Go Around - EuroFox 912is Taildragger

It was a great day, and me and a few mate, decided to fly off to the coast to an airfield called Northrepps, but its also referred to as Cromer Airfield by many. The journey took me from Buckinghamshire to Norfolk, with a transit there and back through Norwich Airport Airspace, no real issues, just me, not being that confident. Only issue i had, was that my approach speed to 04 at Cromer was a ...

Aww, that poor Shackleton!
It’s all civilian contractors now.
Key requirements for a career in the RAF Fire Service is the ability to make tea and toast.
Very True, you must have had a long career lol
Great video. Im 35 hours into my PPL(H) and even though im ex military, using the radios is the hardest thing ive found about flying thus far
Thanks mate, nice to hear I'm doing something right. Why not subscribe, and give me a like to help my channel... merry christmas
@ wilko 🫡
I used to visit the fire section at Kinloss a lot as a cadet in the 70s, was great fun driving over all the rough tracks they had. Thank goodness that I joined up as a Rigger instead though lol
Thank you fighterbomberMig27, you are too kind
WOW, another amazing video. You have a great aviation fans family. Respect
Any tail dragger can ground loop if loaded tail heavy. Looks like he has a bunch of stuff in the back. I had an airline pilot tell me he could fly a tail dragger. I'd like to see that, LOL.
Proper RAF blue uniforms but now super scruffy tree suits.
Does this pilot seem to have problems with the basic handling of a classic train ? 🤕
First rebound? It happens. But then, full throttle immediately followed by cutting the throttle was a horrible demonstration of his lack of know-how and a very dangerous panic response. You see his right hand go everywhere after that, showing a man having just panicked and making completely irrational gestures. This guy should have an instructor with him to avoid a catastrophic end until becoming proficient.
It may have done, however, this was my 3rd attempt and I think was feeling the pressure to land... so in answer to your question, may be one more attempt would have prevented to loop.... who knows
Thanks for posting this, it was a brave thing to do. My Eurofox instructor says there are pilots who have ground looped and pilots who will. He's done it and he has huge military and private flying experience. I haven't done it yet... With hindsight do you think a go around might have helped?
See the huge difference in nose attitude of the two landings? The nose is way up high in the successful touchdown. I was told to go and sit in my first taildragger and learn where the horizon cuts through the forward view. That, I was informed, is what the picture should be at touchdown. Thanks for sharing your film, a great illustration of gottalanditus 😎
Seems like you are flaring too high
You really should be using your rudder with a crosswind like that or you will ground loop the airplane, watching you swerving all over the runway was terrible to watch
I agree, it was, but thanks for your comment mate
Great video! How long does it take to fold the wings? Can one person do the job? Thanks.
It takes about, 30mins to fold the wings, so it's not too long
I got three 😂… You’ve managed to get a good chunk of airfields in your logbook 👏🏼
Well done,.. Which ones?
@@gt-av8r Lukesfield, Goodwood & Popham
You should have got sandown... and you need to get up north more... Well you are the top entrant so far 👍
You are far too kind :-) DarkLord, your the one that inspires me.... I might even wear a tie
What a fabulous video! 👏🏼 Your editing has gone next level!!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

@@tonesw6957 yeh, each time I typed that in, my phone changed it to Markham 😡
What is the cost for a eurofox towplane with a rotax 141 hp installed? So far no reply from the manufacturer 😳
I bet depending on your spec, it will probably start off at around the £120 + VAT
@@gt-av8r thanks 👍🏻👍🏾
But that is only a guess mate
Taildraggers are a rewarding aircraft to fly as long as you have the correct training, but some people think they know better! And just for the record….It makes absolutely no difference if you land a taildragger on grass or tarmac! As long as you’ve had the correct training and you’ve gained about 100hrs flying time on type, landing on either surface will make absolutely no difference at all, and yes, even after your training of flying a taildragger you have to go and build your experience up to become a good taildragger pilot.
Add power, RELAX! establish climb, deep breath in and out, carry on. See how you were grabbing around with your right hand for anything? You were thinking your right hand should be doing something, but did not know what it should be doing. Practice more go-arounds, and keep learning. Thank you for sharing, that was very brave of you in this keyboard warrior world.
Thank you for your comments. To be fair, I know I screwed up, and we all do that now and again, don't we .... I have no problem posting my flying rights and wrongs on the platform... thats what's youtube is all about.
You were extremely lucky there. Even before the bounce, that was not a stabilized approach at all and kinda warranted a go-around anyway.
Il faut qu'il retourne en école avant mourir dommage pour l ULM
What shocking spelling - you mean ‘to lure’ and not ‘to lour’ - not a great start to an RAF recruiting film now is it? The RAF - open to poor spellers! 😩
Well it is the Fiar Servis!
Yes, Catterick was the RAF fire training school for years, and when aircraft were no longer airworthy, some of them were donated to the fire training center to train would be firefighters the art of firemanship
People would be appalled with the huge black clouds resulting from each fire. I remember seeing many getting off the school bus back in the day.
Wait a minute…I saw that Shackleton burning in another documentary. So they did that on purpose for firefighter training?!
Ha 😂😂
I'm sorry but any man who flies an airplane wearing those shoes should not be surprised when things go to SHIT!
😊 thank you
A go around takes humility and understanding. Pride goeth before a fall. Well done.
If it was a hot day could be the go-pro turned off because it got too warm. I've not used one myself but I've heard of that happening.
It was, but they even shut down on cold days too....
Looking good. But where's the landing flare? In your boss taildragger bush plane, especially on a soft field (with cameras rolling), you need a high approach, slowest safe speed and full flaps. You should be stopped well inside 100Ft ground roll, 50Ft is better. I used to tell people the only limitation of my Highlander was the pilot. Once I worked the white out of my knuckles, and got comfortable knowing I wasn't going to crash and die, I began preparing for what every bush pilot worth their moose drool is ready for, the no go-around landing. Oh yes, I made silly excuses like *why land when I can't take off again*, and *you can't use river water as a speed brake*, and my favorite, *I can't take off on a 50Ft strip*. All lies. Over time I proved them all wrong and did it safely with a plan. Each of these 'limitations' are overcome by pilots here on TH-cam, check 'em out.
Hi Stev, you are absolutely right, the pilot is the problem. my eurofox Vso is 38kts KIAS, with a safety margin of 1.3 this equals 50kts... However, it's just stick time, and I'm sure I will get better, and land a little slower and stop in shorter distances. Thank you for your comprehensive comment, which is much valued Kind Regards GT
Nice save. That was a close one. I noticed your pitch at touchdown was much higher on the 2nd approach.
Thanks... GT and family perform a mexican wave
😂😂😂
I think this could be expected of anyone who flys in sandels.
😱
This guy needs to stop flying. Some people just are not cut out to be a pilot. Whoever signed this guy off should stop instructing.
You're flying it on
Glad someone else had, from some of the comments, I thought I was the only twat that had 😂
Been there done that! The EF likes to bounce if you don’t get it right!
Hi Rob, really liked our visit to France and your second home was fabulous. I am starting to get a little more fluid with the eurofox, ... I only wished I had started earlier in life, at 62, its a bit of a rock face to ascend. Thank you for taking time to watch our video and commenting, Kind regards GT
Nice video, I’m glad to see you got the hang of the tail wheel, I own one of the houses in Verchocq which we live in part time. I used to own a G reg Eurofox which I recently sold. I love flying in Europe so much I have just purchase a French registered Aeroprakt Vixxen. Getting a French ULM licence on the back of my UK licence took just 3 days. Just have to go to Avignon to collect my new ULM. Happy times !
