Thanks for this video really helpful. I just got a Kodak Reels and am starting my preservation project. I am not as afraid to use the machine after your video. Two questions, what Sharpness setting do you use/prefer? I have read "just use the 0 setting" but also, "turn it all the way down to -2". My second question, you said when you get it going you can pretty much walk away. The sound can be a clue something is wrong. Yes, I understand, but twice (I've only done about 6 reels) the film got stuck when a (old) splice hit the second roller on the take up side (the sharp curve in the path). So the machine keeps going, no funny sounds, and a birds nest of film on the floor. Any thoughts on how to avoid this? Again, many thanks.

I just went through all this. The tape spins freely when the locks are lifted.. I put the reels in another casing.. still will not play… any ideas?

That is an insane collection.

Word of advice, put the packing peanuts in the cold water and they will melt instantly. It’s recycle material. That’s what I do in my store, I get hundreds of them every day.

I had a McDonald’s copy of The Addams Family. That deal was from 1992. I remember it well.

It's amazing how many people think all VCRs are the same when they made everything from an 8 head VCR to a VCR with HDMI out , heck they even made an HD VCR , not SVHS , but full HD .

Are you capable of uploading to TH-cam that entire soundtrack with possibly a black screen? It sounds amazing. It would love to listen to the entire thing.

i like the sony vcrs i got a few myself i keep them running and i may have some nos sony heads in storage

that switcher that looks like the playstation - wasn't sony official but was definitely designed to be styled after it. It was one of the 3rd party accessories manufactures that made it, don't think it was Madkatz but was a similar brand?

Yeah this is certainly strange for Florida and the Gulf Coast. Up here in Minnesota we are used to weather like this.

its pulses the blue screen as its locking on to analogue rf interference! try tuning the vcr's channel's rf input to a higher or lower level so it does not pick up on the interference at that frequency.

hi have seen bad pinch rollers on decks the tape is riding up the pinch roller and the tape on the reel has gone bad i said i can't back the video up because the deck was not looked after right a mate used alot of decks that have not be service or checked i check all my gear alot just can't wait for me to do the checking they see fast got to be done faster alot of the time

Just found a Panny PV-8662 at a thrift store for $6 today. Never any SVHS decks, though. 17:40 - the “u” looking thing means “micron”. It’s the Greek letter mu.

On that small box tv that played the all dogs go to heaven 2, id guess he paid around $50-$60 for it.

That is weird seeing palm trees AND snow at the same time. This amount of snow is nothing up in maine. That is about what I have now but sometimes it's gotten up to 3 feet deep and I had to dig out a path to the garage to get the snowblower.

I grew up there. And my family is still there. Never has this happened. Sure, we would get an inch maybe every 10 years. Nothing like this.

When you scrap non-working VCRs, do you actually throw them in the trash? Or, do you bring them to a center that takes used electronics for recycling? Hopefully, it's the latter.

Nice. The only VCRs I've found at local thrift stores have been broken - lots of broken gears when I got them home and opened them up... I found a couple camcorders recently, a Digital8 and a mini DV. They both work, but I was bummed to learn that the Digital8 wasn't one of the models that can also play analog Hi8, and I have a few Hi8 tapes to digitize.

Do you know how to clean cassette tape decks? Found a stereo system with cassette player and it sounds like the sound quality isn't good.

I have the aiwa version of this VCR. Mine needs to be serviced. I just scored several nice VCRs and some with DVD players in them. I also scored a SVHS player. Only $10 because they said it ate tapes. I got it home and it did no such thing. Pretty Lucky I guess

I have an old (late 80s-early 90s) Complete RCA VHS camcorder with all the accessories. Case, 3 batteries , an assortment of lens filters and the charger. Seeing this makes me want to break it out and see if it is still functional.

wow bud your real busy! ❤BETAMAX! the one you have looks just like mine back in the day my parents upgraded to VHS and i had the betamax, as a kid it was great as the tapes were always available cheep or even given away to me and i was able to transfer tapes to betamax using my parents vhs player
