    @ButterPockets I was having a terrible time with these instructions UNTIL I realized that everywhere in your document where the code points to the katapult directory ("~/katapult/out/katapult.bin" and similar) you have to edit the line to capitalize the K in the Katapult folder! It seems like the Katapult folder probably always writes itself with upper case K, so I imagine other noobs may scratch their head for a while at this part too. Does this warrant an edit to your instructions file?

    Gave you a thumbs up just because of the nerd comment. 😉Very interesting to see the whole process, but I'm boggled that anyone would ever choose this route. Not any cheaper than a good off the shelf machine, and how many hours of work did this take you, as well as how much money needs to be spent on tools in your prep part. It's so prone to error, I wonder what percentage of people end up with a well functioning printer out of it. Amusingly, you said it was all fine, but never actually showed it working, or what quality prints you get out of it.

    • @ButterPockets
      @ButterPockets วันที่ผ่านมา

      I figured the video was already too long and planned to make a separate video on the quality. I didn’t really intend for this video to be how well the printer performs, since a voron is a voron, but more so a guide for this specific kit. Although, the quality out of a voron is pretty well documented and mostly up how well you build it. For what it’s worth my 2 vorons have the best print quality out of the 6 other printers that I have currently. Off the shelf printers are great but custom builds are as good as you make them! As far as the price it’s definitely comparable to an off the shelf printer but that what I tried to explain in the intro! I think off the shelf printers suit people and custom builds suit others. For me I definitely prefer the custom build route since I can always buy replacement parts and tweak the firmware as I like.

    This guide is the answer to my misery in the past couple of weeks. I am finishing up the hardware part of my build, was already 90 percent done when I saw this video, and like your tips on what to print so will be going back and changing some things. But the main problem I've had is with software. For several days I've been blundering through trying to follow instructions in various BTT manuals, and it hasn't been working. I am a complete novice at coding this stuff and have never used Klipper, and frustrations and lack of understanding abound. I've been thinking of trying to hire someone to walk me through the implementation of Klipper and the Canbus install because I'm not getting anywhere searching the huge amount of stuff on discord and whatnot. I needed a guide that held my hand, and I think this is it. I'll be starting over from scratch and following your guide over the next few days to get set up. Thank you SO MUCH.

    baby-face or clown-face? C'mon! Yet another clown who tried to explain his tiny audience why tinkering (almost) a 3D printer would "add" features that major brands don't offer! C'mon! Which ones Bojo? You're visibly NOT AN ENGINEER! You instruct advanced - more technically educated - people almost NOTHING! It's all about some entertainment and the claim that you know what you're talking about. Not demonstrated so far. Let me HELP YOU! A 3D-printer is a TOOL! As an European computer engineer, my employers and me put all my attention in... SORTING BIG MANUFACTURERS' OFFERS! DEFINITELY not choosing the cheapest one and wasting our time in "tweaking" it! AS A TOOL, current 3D-printers of Chinese brands like CReality or Sovol, MEET ALL SERIOUS USERS' REQUIREMENTS as a daily routine TOOL! TH-cam is unfortunately FULL of pseudo experts in 3D printing. Nonetheless the best reviewers like Tom Sanladerer, The Swedish Maker, Aussies e.g. Makers Muse to name a few, proved that major - i repeat, SIGNIFICANT - new CONCEPTS can be added as revolutionary solutions. Watch what they do! You'll learn A LOT!

    Why did you first flash the katapult bootload on the mp8 and then overwrite it through dfutil with klipper. I agree that you don't need katapult on it because it also connects through usb with the cb1 but it seems like an unneccesary step. Katapult is a bootloader that makes updating firmware through canbus possible. It's really handy for toolhead boards but not needed for the main mcu.

    • @ButterPockets
      @ButterPockets 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree it seems unnecessary but I went through this process so many times and this is the one that worked. The other guides I linked have you do it as well. Edit: as a better answer. Because the M8P essentially emulates having a USB katapult device plugged in you need to load the first 8k as a bootloader and then klipper is written after that 8k so it doesn’t over write it. I actually did make a mistake in the video by not deploying the katapult firmware and it was corrected in the documentation (point out by the pinned comment). Unfortunately I can’t edit videos after they are already posted.

      @@SamuelBurns85if it fit then it’s right. Apparently they updated the STL and it was correct but then they replaced it with the wrong version. I think it's easy to forget how far we've come when you look at a printer like this. My first printer was a Solidoodle (remember those) that I had to build myself. It took me three weeks to get a usable print, and that was a part that let you hang a bunch of quarters from the belts so you could tension them properly. Bed levelling was entirely manual, as was Z-height adjustment, and, well, everything else. We were out there making ABS slurry (if you don't know what that is, keep it that way) to get our prints to stick, and using putty knives and mallets to get them unstuck once they finished. To get anything approaching a smooth finish, you had to envelop your parts in acetone vapor. Good times. Since then, I've had a bunch of printers, including an old school Prusa i3 that's still in service, and my current daily driver, an Ender 3 that has almost zero original parts. When I started 3D printing, I learned to repair, replace, and tweak printers, because you had to. The hobby that I wanted was designing and printing cool stuff. The hobby that I got was being a combined Engineer/Mechanic/MacGuyver. Don't get me wrong. It's been fun, and I've learned more than I ever would have imagined, but the idea of being able to buy a printer for less than $1000 and expecting to just be able to print to it is a moonshot from where this hobby began. While I've come to love upgrading/modifying my printers, there's a real market segment out there that just needs to print stuff, and I think that's where the A1 shines, and hopefully, will open this hobby to a lot more people.

    • @ButterPockets
      @ButterPockets 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree with everything you said. I think the A1 has a market and it really shines there. I think it’s important for people to understand how it really fits in the “print and forget - hobbyist” market tho. We still aren’t quite at a true “open the box and hit print” printer yet due to slicers and filament etc. But you’re 100% right. Even just like 3 years ago if I said a printer was 350$ you’d know it would be awful. Now less than 350 can get you an incredible machine.

Bambulabs knew that they were shipping a dangerous product and they have not notified the Canadian authorities as nothing shows up in the recall database. This is probably a criminal offence and the business license should be pulled. As this issue has been public for months I wonder if a class action lawsuit should be started.

    Hey there, I've been dealing with artifacts and ringing on both my P1S and A1M on 100% speeds (which I find very disappointing) on top of that, after opening a ticket I got suggested to do this VFA test together with the following response: "identify the speed range where the VFA phenomenon is most noticeable. In future prints, try to avoid using speeds within that range as much as possible." So much regarding your question @ 6:26min and their "machines". Don't get me wrong. The machines are great and the overall ecosystem is pretty good, but not getting reliable prints on much lower of the advertised speeds is not great IMO. PD: Yes, all machines have been properly maintained, lubricated, cleaned, readjusted, recalibrated etc.

      Me too! I had the A1 but returned it in the recall. I wanted something different. I have other printers that are full size.

    Thanks for the review, liked your comparison of parts from the two printers. For me I went with an A1 so I could concentrate on printing and modelling rather than the printer. It's always a trade off and I am always struggling for enough hours in the day so a compromise was called for. If it mostly just works I will be happy and the AMS lite looks really interesting. Wasteful on filament but opens up oh so many possibilities. My replacement heat bed is at the post office, can't wait to install it, spend the voucher and get back to printing.

    Assuming i just want to print PLA for my etsy shop would you recommend this or rhe A1 or an adventurer 5M? The A1 is appealing because of the larger build plate i can print more at once. 5M is cheaper, but smaller and I don't like the expensive nozzle/hotend setup. The Qidi seems great, faster than the A1, but smaller and the most expensive of my 3 options plus i dont need the enclosure/heated chamber. The negatives of the Bambu are the whole china big brother cloud thing and it's still a bedslinger. I just need something better than my ender 3 v2 lol.

    Thanks for the good, honest review. I bought the A1 just before the recall and opted to replace the heat bed (which I did a couple days ago). As a side note, I used it a lot while I waited for the recall part and it still worked perfectly. It's my 1st and only printer so I cannot compare it to others. I will say it has been super easy to use and, for a novice like me, a very fun printer to learn on because it all "just works". Now that I've caught the but I'm sure another printer will be coming soon.

      You're spoiled if you started on the A1! LOL! You don't know bad it can be!
