As someone who was in the server themselves, I can confirm there´s nothing going on anymore. I saw a few things here and there but nothing related to the Brewsticks ever, the only active thing I saw in the server is a bot that updates whenever someone broke WR in SM64. Other than that there was hardly anything else going on activewise, people either were just in the server for the updates on the stick or just were there to keep tabs on it. I eventually left the server myself because I geniunely wanted to see the stick to be a success but that never happend and I am disapointed. It was a nische community I can´t deny that but still, it sucks when you hardly provide updates to something that has been in waiting for years and only provide full refunds instead of giving a replacement product or something to compensate for the waiting time

The N64 polymers selection is just wrong for the type of contact they have. I don't necessarily think steel is the solution though.

i think people seem forget this guy is doing all this work on his own i suspect he does not have a factory building all parts and i think he bit off more than he could chew and got stuck under 1000s orders for his product

6:30 , if I understand it correctly???, one critic made the dude stop, when EVERY proper company needs to test the sticks on maybe 50 controllers with different modules and state an average error or misalignment rate to prevent backlash and refunds. HOW do people fail at that - awareness is key to notice patterns.

Some people just aren't cutout to sell products. I dealt with a situation like this a couple of years ago on etsy. When the Phob boards were new for gamecube controllers there was a guy selling them fairly cheap named LuckyGCC on etsy. He had plain boards that required the buyer to solder donor parts onto the board, fully assembled boards that were drop ins for the shell, fully made with a shell, and then custom controllers with special mods like springs and what not. I ordered a fully made one but not with all the custom stuff and then a week later ordered just a plain board to build myself. We even chatted a bit about other games we played like destiny 2 and he seemed like a good guy. After a couple of weeks the plain board arrived but was missing the magnets needed for the hall effect sensors, and before I even got my package I got an email telling me this had happened to a few people so he would send them out separate. I emailed him back saying it was fine and he could send them with the completed controller. He replied saying he would do that. A week alter I get a package with just the magnets. I thought it was strange but it wasn't a big deal. With etsy I expect things to take 45 days average but 90 days is my 'im kinda mad' point. 45 days comes and goes so I send an email asking for an update. Lucky replies saying he has just been overwhelmed but it will be out in a month at most. Okay fine. A month goes by. No updates. So I reach out again. Same excuse. At this point its been 120 days. No reply. 2 days later I get an email from lucky. Not an etsy message but an email and its just filled with excuses. When Lucky screwed up was not CC-ing everyone but having it sent where it was a mass email we could all reply to. I wont lie part of me wanted to cause chaos by hitting reply all and telling everyone to cancel but I didn't. At some point I got an email with a photo of the supposedly completed controller and my order number saying it will ship out the following day. 2 weeks later and nothing. At this point I go to etsy and got my refund. Etsy covered it but Lucky got to keep the money. Aka etsy just paid this guy to take my money and lie to me for months. I was pissed. I then went to twitter and replied to a post where lucky was going to be a vendor at a smash tournament. I called him out for being a terrible shop and a potential scammer. He some how got my tweet taken down. So off to melee hell on facebook. Again he got it taken down but not until lots of people had seen it and started canceling orders. I learned from some of them they had been waiting for 6+ months. His shop is now gone thankfully. However I dont think he was a bad guy I do believe he got overwhelmed, but lying and making up excuses is not how you run a business. Had he been honest about how far behind he was and offered a refund or even a small money back deal I would have understood. Since then I have built 5 phob controllers and they take about an hour to build. So I have no idea how this guy dug such a big hole but whatever I learned a lesson, dont trust people selling nintendo stuff on etsy. Also I just realized this entire essay will probably be auto deleted by youtube because it mentions shops and what not. Oh well.

Situations like this are so common in the retro community. * Someone makes a one of a kind product * Everybody wants it * Person behind the project announces fake deadlines they can't meet * Deadlines pass * Communication is cut * People get upset * Clones arrive * Original project becomes irrelevant

If Jak and Daxter Lava Tube skip has taught me anything. It's that the moment you tell speedrunners that a certain skip is just a meme, there are going to be the mad lads that go out and crack it right open.

more gamers need to step up and learn the skills needed to create hardware like this, rather than relying on just a couple people and companies to get anything done

Hello, total outside to this topic, first time I've seen one of your videos and truly appreciated your perspective and it's clear you put a ton of work into your video. I feel like I'm now much more aware of a niche of the gaming world that I'm not involved in. Love it and keep it up. That said please stop ending ever cut with a zoom and snap out. This video was great to listen to but the constant in and out snapping was driving me insane and I had to actually hide the video so I could focus on the words without feeling like I was being grabbed by the shoulders and shaken. Thanks, keep it up ^^

Hey bordo! I watch your videos every now and then and I just want to say these videos are very nice! One thing I would like to see though is a progression on TTC 100. That star had a fair bit of progression and I find the fact that people knew about the wall jump after the blue coin since 2008 is astonishing. Excited for your new content related to other stuff however. Didn't feel it was right to post this under the Biinny video so I'll leave it here.

Man, kind of wish I had gotten a Steel Stick back when those were still being produced. I got a bowl, planned on eventually getting the stick, and just sort of forgot about it. Sucks that every alternative that's come along since then has either died off or had issues with actually getting things shipped out to people.

Rule 1 of good business: don't make promises you can't keep. The fact that there even is consideration of a "chance" at getting one after you already paid for it, let alone the fact that people are afraid to criticize out of fear of losing that chance, is such a toxic situation. There's no excuse to sit on other people's money and not refund them when they ask. The fact that he is ghosting refund requests is the worst offense. If you have stuff going on in your personal life that makes it too hard to deliver on your promise, then stop allowing preorders and just give people their money back at the very least.

This isn't confusing at all. Preorders, he already has your money. Why isn't he sending you the product? Because he has other people willing to pay him for more. He already spent the preorder money, and doesn't want to feel like he's giving these away. Mailing out preorders feels to him like giving them away because he's not gaining any NEW money, just paying back the money he already spent. It's why for custom work I never want to be paid upfront. I don't like feeling like I'm working for free.

To be fair, I think logistically, they bite off a lot more than they can chew. Then they handle the fallout poorly because of inexperience. I don't think it's malice.

The product quality endorsement with the overall tone of the video gives severe whiplash. The product quality is irrelevant when you don't receive the product and the customer service is non-existent.

People who delay products for months on end and keep promising nearby ETA's are the worst. Dealt with them before from someone selling video game merch. Most people wouldn't care if the dates were honest; I'd rather be told something would take 12 months than continually have it be "2 weeks away" for a year. It's such a futile waste of mental resources wondering when the product's gonna arrive and dwelling on whether it's a scam or not, that hurts worse than the money IMO.
