Raven Willow Farmstead
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 17 ม.ค. 2024
We moved our family over 4000km across Canada in our little 16 foot travel trailer to New Brunswick, Canada to follow our homesteading dreams with our two dogs (Kali and Fen) and two cats (Rengar and Loki). We bought land with a dream to become more self-sufficient and develop a small scale regenerative farmstead.
Come along for the journey as we turn 52 acres of dense trees into gardens, orchards, and pasture.
Thanks,
Rob and Caitlyn

Why We GROW A Backyard FOOD Forest | Feature Waterfall
Are they 2 house you add them together? It does looks beautiful, you build a big deck around it’ll looks nice with an amazing view surrounding,❤❤
Hi There thanks so much! It is one long house called a minihome and we hope to build a big deck soon :)
Does New Brunswick kind of remind you of certain parts of BC, green and lush with much smaller mountians, but some beautiful drives on country roads. You will eventually get used to ATV's driving down the roads, and during hunting season with the rifles slung over their shoulders. Shocked the heck out of me the first time I saw that, but we are in fact in hillbilly Albert County. When I got here I found a back yard (about 1/2 an acre) that hadn't been mower for a year (even thouh we were paying someone to take care of it} and renovation scrapes buried in the grass that took care of a good lawn mower blade, BUT I didn't find a shovel. LOL. I did find a set of quad winter chains with the lawn mower though. Just started watching all your videos, as I found you on New Brunswick Homesteading, and being from the same AB area I was interested, now find out you have done some good videos that are very interesting. Thank You for the entertainment.
Hey! Glad to have you along for the adventure. Yes, we were struck by a lot of the lushness that reminded us of BC but we always grew up with a healthy amount of redneckness so we were used to the quads but the guns were a new thing. Chains are a great thing to find! Especially with a lawn mower..Oof! We almost bought a house on Old Albert mines rd!
@@ravenwillowfarmstead Well if it was 104 Old Albert Mines Road, be glad you didn't buy it. My buddy did and now finding more problems than he ever thought. Good for you that you decided against it.
Haha I think it was! We had 3 different contractors come through and tell us to not buy that house. After driving by it when we got there, we are glad we did not. Right across the road from a swamp as well. My condolences to your friend.
@@ravenwillowfarmstead Yup, that is the one. Great choice on your part for listening to your contractors.
I did that drive once in 2015, left the Bonnie Doon area on tuesday (October 13th} at 7 AM, just me and my better halfs cat. Drove to Sault Saint Marie before I finally got a motel room for an 8 hour sleep. Had an altinater go out an hour out of the Sault and luckily got it repaired in 4 hour and back on the road. Got lost in Montreal for 2 hours in the middle of the night, on to Riviere-du-Loup where I couldn't find the proper highway turnoff, probably due to sleep deprivation, spent an hour trying to find a road map at 6 in the morning. Finally back on the proper road and every milestone got me closer to Hillsborough, so I just kept pushing it. Finally at 1 PM friday afternoon { October 16th) I pulled up to our new home. 3 month later I did the trip again, but this time had a co-pilot and a newer more comfortable vehicle, and took 8 days to drive it. ( January 2016) Woman want to stop and look at everything. 😂😂 Welcome to New Brunswick!!! PS: Graduated from school in Creston BC, then Edmonton for 44 years and I retired in NB, Lisa is still working here in NB.
Yes its an incredible drive, but thats an incredible time to do it alone! 3 days is very safe, glad you made it safe. We both grew up in the Okanagan, so not to far from Creston.
Congrats on moving in, we just moved out here not far from hampton and we're working away at creating our homestead. Curious roughly how much those houses go for? Just the building, nothing else. My mother in law moved out here and were looking for something similar to put on the property for her.
Congrats on your move as well and thank you! The cost really depends on what model, size, and there are so many options that go into the house. It took us about 4 months of planning to finalize the house and there are several companies you can go through for a new one. Ours was from Prestige Homes, but Kent also has a big warehouse in Bouctouche, and there is Maple Homes etc. There is also the option of finding an older one used at usually a very good price. They are easy to move to a new property with the right company. Good luck!
Happiest dogs alive right there with all that space to explore!! 😍 Loved loved LOVED this video!! I Love watching it all come together!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Indeed, they are living their best life <3
Welcome to New Brunswick. We moved here with all our animals from Ontario 2022 and love our farmstead dream coning true as well.
Oh nice! Its an amazing place to pursue this dream indeed!
Lol still laughing at that comment... "gravity..." haha
Remarkable people taking this on. I commend you both. Thanks for sharing this amazing journey. It will be so amazing to look back on what you both have accomplished. Cheers from Manitoba. ❤
Thank you! I don't know how remarkable we are, but we are doing our best. Thank you for your comment, excited to have you with us :)
Endless amounts of vision, planning, physical work, and improvisation, regardless of the weather, are necessary to build a homestead from scratch. The little creative touches make it worthwhile! You guys rock! What an inspiration! You almost make it look easy!
Wow haha, your gonna make us blush. Thank you! It certainly isn't easy, but editing makes it look more so haha.
New sub. Just got here and looks like I have some catching up to do on your videos. Looking forward to following along.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for joining us 😀
Can't wait! I love a cliff hanger!
Sweet! Cant wait! 😊
Well done you guys! Love what you’re doing!
Thanks!
Hi guys, do you have Scottish heritage? I am from Scotland, born in Edinburgh but now live in Aberdeen. Heilans as we call them are fantastic animals, so friendly, love to be brushed. Enjoying your channel.
Hey thanks for the comment! We both do have Scottish ancestry and visited there in 2019 and found out we have connection to the Fraser clan. So incredible! We fell in love with these cows. We'll show them off on the next vid. :)
I'm looking forward to the next episode! I want to see your cows too! Oh, beautiful coastal paint colours!
Thanks! We can't wait to share the cows on the next one :)
The dogs LOVE the snow! They don't care that NB winters seem to last forever! LOL!
CUTE!!!! You are so lucky! Highland cows are furry, gentle and friendly critters that eat everything!
They're the best honestly! So friendly
Certainly ambitious plans! You might need a bulldozer to clear those stumps.
A bull dozer would be dandy! Unfortunately not in the budget for that. But! We have researched a few ways to accelerate the rot of the stumps so they are gone in a year or two.
Wow! You both have some adventures ahead of you! Wishing you all the best!
Thanks so much! Yes we do love a good adventure:) it's keeping us on our toes!
I'm sure you'll get it figured out.
Hi. I was wondering if you would put a wood burning stove in the house for the times you have power outages. You could dry out the trees you cut down for next winter .
Hi there, yes that is definitely on our list of wants for next year. We have been stacking all the logs we cut down from the garden area for firewood :)
Do you have a wood stove brand you would recommend?
@@ravenwillowfarmstead the TH-cam channel the Vanwives are in a forest in in Nova Scotia and they love their wood stove not sure what make it is. Maybe have a look at their channel. They are also on a homestead.
@@ravenwillowfarmstead Suggestion here. We installed a J.A Roby (Canadian made)Forgeron cookstove and we love it.
@SeekingRootsNovaScotia OK sounds good we'll keep that in mind thanks!
You are blessed with that much property watching you walk through the woods reminds me of my youth hiking around the Phonecia NY area in my youth. A video of you clearing snow would be awesome.
Thank you! We are very blessed indeed. It took a lot of courage, hard work and planning as well. We didn't do to much snow clearing for the driveway as we have a local guy who does it for the area. But once we have our own equipment, absolutely!
Very nice. Congratulations
Thank you 😊
When I saw you with the chainsaw in your hand right after you showed the cat in the tree, the first thought that came to me, was are going to get your cat out of the tree.
Ahahaha! That would be the definition of overdoing it 😆 . Not this time anyway.
@@ravenwillowfarmstead I never thought that you would really do that, it's just the first thing that came to mind.😀
That certainly would be one way to do it hahah
Such a great way to live your lives to the fullest! I can imagine the warm weather has made all this work worthwhile! Beautifully done!
Its been a blast so far, so much more work to do, but every day we are getting closer to the goal!
You guys should make a fairy garden
In the woods
Something we have certainly talked about!
Love the cat in the tree
Lol Loki was so happy to be outside even in the snow ❄️
What a fantastic place for your garden. I bet it's in the works now. We just put our's in last week. 8 different types of blueberries, 2 different types of tomatoes, cucumbers and 2 different types of potatoes. Hoping this year well will not have the monsoons and things will get a chance to grow. Happy gardening and the house colours are lovely.
It is on the works! Congrats on getting your garden in, sounds great! Yes, I hope there is not as much rain this year, that was a lot of flooding last year. Thank you for the comment :)
I planted potatoes in cardboard boxes for a raised patch in NC. Utube has some videos of people planting in bales which is too expensive for me until I saw videos for cardboard boxes from Home Depot can't have print on them. Anyways no use tilling rocks if you don't have to.
@sammythompson3694 cool that's a good idea! We plan to do the no till method as well :)
Hard to believe that’s the same property compared to your first video! Amazing! So many good things to come! Take care!
Thanks! You too!
Beautiful property! You have a lot of work ahead but from what I've seen so far, you're up for it! I can't wait to see how things have progressed.
Thanks! Lots has changed and we can't wait to share it!
I really like your choice of paint colours! Cheery living space! 🌻
The dogs were certainly having a blast! They love country life!
They really do! Fenrir (the irish terrier) was so funny when we first arrived he thought he had to be on guard duty all the time, even just leaves blowing would startle him.
Love your video. Very good. Your home looks amazing. I’m glad you accomplished this part of your dream
Thank you so much!
Wow that sheds going to come in so handy!! Well done that’s a lot of work. The deck looks great too! 😃
