My name is Gareth Cooke, I am a member of the Barnsley Athletic Club. I am documenting my travels, completing races and challenges, overall whilst enjoying my running.

Travellers 6: perhaps the hilliest road race in Yorkshire?
The Travellers 6, a low key race, local, organised by Denby Dale Athletic Club and costs £12! The buffet food afterwards is always a plenty and the course is nothing other than hilly, with no flat stuff in between. 800ft of climb you’ll find on the hills of Denby Dale. It isn’t for the faint hearted, taking place in December it always demands exceptionally lovely weather… Naomi entered this one on Friday night, 36 hours before the start of the race. A shot gun race, entered. Her legs are as fresh as they can be from the Valencia Marathon at the beginning of the month.
Take a watch this week to see how she gets on at the Travellers 6, whilst I’m in the spectators seat still. But the rehab is progressing and I’m getting there!

I did this but was one of the slower runners 😂 I’m so amazed at how you can keep that kind of pace going in the conditions we had on Sunday! Amazing! I only started running a early this year and my hope is next year I can do it under an hour. Well done and will be subscribing!
Great local race my first ever race many moons ago clashed with WYWL otherwise I would have had a go well done on the win just found the channel looks good 👍

Well done yet again Naomi on a very tough course and as you say it is a proper club organised event - I first ran it back in 1991 in the very early days of Barnsley Harrriers on the original course - but haven't done for many years as it usually clashes with the SYXC league --

I’m the same …ADHD here …I get so overstimulated from expos shakeout runs and people before a marathon or event then on the day it’s just like let’s get this done. Well done on the race and the video. I love the chatter between you. Let’s get you to 1k subs by Christmas
Well done Naomi, only thought I had was seeing that this wasn’t a race you were peaking for and lack of a normal build period maybe your A goal should have reflected that and then you would realise that the time you achieved was brilliant, as indeed you are. Please show more of yours rather than Gareths S&C.

Well done Naomi. You may want to think about using a travel company for next year’s race. The big plus was they delivered bibs to you at your hotel, so no need to visit the expo if you didn’t want to go (I didn’t want the stress of it). Worked out well.

Thank you! Head down with a bit of recovery and back into training for Naomi in the next couple of weeks. And yep still enjoying it and the sound of silence from my Focus RS is unbelievable, plus the acceleration is class 🤣

Another great film and well run again Naomi - You are just right with the thinking - no that's is not the quickest I am ever going to run in a race - I always believed I could run quicker-in the past - think that was shown when I did my fastest ever half in 1992 when I was 36 ( 74.56 at Lytham St Annes ) I had been doing between 75 and 76 regularly on hilly courses such as Ackworth for many years - everything just clicked on that day - Never say Never !!!

How many hops do you consider that you need to do before you start pushing on again?
Interesting watch. My left glute has been niggling for a while, it’s okay in training but hinders me slightly racing, think i might do some focused exercises on it with a few more reps on weaker side. Cheers
