Hi, I have a son with hearing loss and I really appreciate your videos! Recently he has had glue ear in both ears which has taken his hearing loss down to profound. I have found your videos so helpful! And wondered if I could suggest a topic for your next video, around “every day useful phrases with children / school holidays useful phrases with children”? Some of the signs that I would find so useful are: Wake up Brush your teeth Get dressed Wash your hands Are you hungry? Are you thirsty? Picnic Park Theme park Play outside Garden Climbing Swimming Birthday party Play date with friends iPad Is your iPad running out of battery? Let’s charge it Hold my hand please Let’s cross the road Stop, look, listen Don’t run please Sit on your bottom please That’s dirty (i.e. in a public toilet) Don’t touch anything in here please Play nicely Sharing Whose turn is it? It’s your/my turn next/now Can you hear me? What did you say? What happened? 5 minutes until we leave Time to go home Did you have a fun day?

I did my BSL level 1 in Scotland where I'm from, but I moved to England and realised the signs were different here, so I did my BSL level 1 again in England to know/understand the differences. Someone said to me..... "remember, signing is language and all languages, despite which, all have accents in different areas. BSL is the same, the differences are just that...... accents"..... That stuck with me and I feel it's a good explanation too. Well, for me it was. I only sign because I enjoy it and it's nice to be able to communicate in BSL when I come across someone using BSL in the deaf/hard of hearing community. Thank you for this video, it's 11.38pm and I'm working tomorrow but all of a sudden, my brain decided to try and remember the signs for England Ireland Scotland Wales and that's how I ended up watching your video..... So thank you for this, it's very well shown/demonstrated. ❤

Great practice for me and my husband. I particularly love the way you sign slowly and repeat it. Other sources don’t do this. I love the way you are always smiling, so lovely to see.

Love your approach . My husband is on his way to loosing all his hearing . I have very little sight so this is more helpful than a class . (Reg blind and list alot of sight recently) On top if that’s we have two adult kids with rare epilepsy . Hearing and sight problems . They can’t vocalise much and have had various degrees of support … makaton rarely ti a good enough level in schools . We are now focussing more on SSE with Sense . It opens the door to more people being able to communicate with them and also people are more keen to learn BSL than makaton to a good level (it grows) . Children like ours are held back because education doesn’t have schools to support and progress their language . We are hoping that the support staff in their accommodation will learn and progress past there level of language and help to unlock their potential . I think your channel us very accessible and I’m going to suggest following too . I know SSE isn’t BSL but I just wanted you to know there are some people out there studying it in order to open the world up to people like my adult hound children. Huge thank you !!!

You are a great teacher, thanks so much for posting these. I sent off for postcards of BSL alphabet in the 80s, as a hearing person, who ended up in retail. learning just some situational signs was really helpful. Its fun to learn and a great way to make spaces more accessable and inclusive. Placdes like retail often have 'scripts' the things you say most often, so even if you are someone who hasn't time to learn the entire language, its possible to learn signs relevant to situations you are in most often. Just wish it was a language also taught at schools, the world would be so much more inclusive then.
