Jon, help, I am at 5-5" and right there at around 137lbs. I am fast losing my ability to zip up my Real MCoys J22 size 38. Your next video needs to be how we are going to lose 2-3 lbs from our Belly😂😂😂. Great video and content! Schott question; what years did the 618 have stars? Keep on truckin'.
@@Murphy61363 From the late 40’s/early 50’s all the way up to the late 70’s/early 80’s. In the early 80’s, they removed the stars and put a snap on the top lapel. It was still called a 618. Then in the early 90’s they brought the stars back and called it 613 and kept the changes they made to the 618..I know it’s complicated lol

great video man! Have you had any experience or knowledge of the old real McCoy’s Buco made in New Zealand? I have one, I guess it’s J-88 ( fire ball ?..), it’s about 30 years old, and it’s got some amazing tea core.

I recently sold my Real McCoy's J-24 (new fit) to purchase an old fit. Substantially lighter in weight, much more grain on the sleeves. Also much thinner. This jacket fits me better, but I'm not sure whether the aforementioned characteristics indicate a downgrade in leather quality.

Hi Jon, I'm Vincenzo from Italy, first of all congratulations for the fantastic collection and for the passion you put into sharing your knowledge. I also dream of having my Perfecto jacket and maybe one that fits me in the best possible way, I would really like to get a vintage one like yours, but partly because of the high prices, partly because of all the difficulties in finding one that fits me well, I would be determined to look for more recent and cheap ones, therefore according to my research and also watching your videos, I would be oriented towards the Schott 118 also in the long version, also because I prefer it not very short, and other characteristics that I would prefer would be, the sleeves quite tight and the shoulders not very wide, I don't like the extreme V effect so much, if you have time and desire, can you give me some advice on this please? Maybe also other brands where I can orient myself, for my needs? I am 68.11" tall, chest circumference 44.88" and I have a bit of a belly, normal anyway. What I understand so far, maybe my size should be a 44? thanks and congratulations again, beautiful channel!
@@vincenzocoda955 Im not sure what you mean by 68.11” tall. Do you mean 5’8” (172cm)? Either way, with a 44” chest it seems like a 42 or a 44 would be best size for you. The 118 today is an inch longer than the 618. I don’t know when Schott started making the 118 longer. My best advice I can give you is to look on eBay for a 118 on that size and if you can, try and find one that is less than $250-$300. This way, if it doesn’t fit you, you’ll hopefully be able to get your money back (or most of it) when you sell.
awesome video and packed with info, fell down a buco rabbit hole recently and this was great!
@@p1um3 Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! watch my Buco fit video, that should be very helpful.

you've inspired me to buy a durable repro :) how thick would you say the leather on these is? i've heard these vintage jackets tended to be 3oz/ 1.2mm or so but there isn't much info out there.

Thank you Jon. Well done. Do you know how the modern RMC J-24's fit and construction compare to the 50's J-24's? I've heard that the new jackets have more room through the body and slimmer upper sleeves.
@@telemarktumalo6978 Thabks Mark! The RMC Buco reproductions are extremely accurate. Both in construction and in fit. The biggest difference in fit is the width of the shoulders of the RMC, they are narrower. This makes the jacket look longer than it is. Yes, the “new fit” RMC Bucos have more room in the upper block including sleeves

The hardest thing we all consider buying a leather jacket is sizing. It's as if no two are the same and the only real way to know is to put it on. Unfortunately, for a lot of us, we're going to have to go by numbers and by on-line. This was an incredibly helpful, astute, and interesting video. So good to see so many vintage jackets in the hands of someone so committed to their preservation and use. Bravo!
@@renangaidheal1320 yes absolutely most people will need to buy based on their measurements
Very informative. What is the back length on most of those jackets? I’m looking for shorter jackets, but find them very hard to find these days new. Thanks!
@@RudeVega The Bucos are longer than most other 50’s motorcycle jackets. They are usually 24” long (in sizes 40 and up) in the smaller sizes the back length is 23”

@@allangoldstein9354 Thanks!
I’m 6ft, and 180lbs, I’m looking to buy a good used Schott for the first time, do you know what size would be suitable ? With other brands I am typically a medium. I’m leaning towards a 40, but the length on the sleeves are an inch and a half too long, which makes me wonder if a size 38 is more preferable
@@aayobruv I’d say 40 or 42. A 38 would be too small
@@LeatherJacketJawnthanks and much appreciated! Awesome video as well, super informative.
A great collection of Schott's and appreciate your historical knowledge. I'm late to the party with Schott, recently bought a 618 out of Japan. I think my jacket likely late 80's or early 90's production. Interestingly, black leather but with the brass color hardware. Special order perhaps but the folks at Schott think the jacket is brown although they haven't seen more than my pics. BTW... your late 70's 36 in that greenish leather is incredible!
