Hi everyone!
My favorite genres to read are: Classics, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Mystery/Thriller, Classic Horror (not too scary!), Nature/Environment, Health, History and Speculative/Paranormal Romance.
On my channel, you'll find cozy reading vlogs that highlight some of the natural beauty I see outside on my daily walks around our farm.
I try to post 2 vlogs per month as well as a reading wrap up at the end of each month (I sometimes get behind, though!) :)
I am working on doing more individual books reviews and tags as well as participating in some reading events as well.
I hope you enjoy my channel and thank you so much for stopping by!

    ❤📚❤️ All your nature video clips were so relaxing and beautiful. I always have a physical book and an audio book going at the same time. For some reason, I can not listen to fantasy on audio, but I love thriller and historical fiction on audio. I do have the ACOTAR Series on my shelves, but keep putting it off due to the intimidating size. I purchased an interleaved Bible and need to prioritize more study time there. Enjoy your fall season and all the joys it will bring.

      Thanks, Starla! I agree, sometimes fantasy on audio is really hard for me too. I've also had success with historical fiction on audio though. That's so interesting how different genres work better than others! I also held off on ACOTAR for ages and now that I've read the first one, I want to keep going, but I still have some other series to work on first. Once I finish my 1st read-through of the Bible, I'm also going to do a re-read and some note-taking in my journaling Bible that I purchased. It will be an ongoing process, lol, that will probably take me many more years! Thanks again and I hope you are having a wonderful Fall as well. Looks like a good TBR for this month. A few that I just started is "Being and Nothingness" by Sartre (a pleasant title I know, lol). I will also be reading the collected works of James Baldwin. Typically I don't like the whole activist writer stuff, but given the times he was writing in I can understand it. I think Baldwin's father was a preacher so I guess I'll see how much of that preaching rubs off on him. I have found a more direct style with writers with similar backgrounds, not as much elegance as some others. That's kinda what I appreciate though, a rawness to the writing. It's one of the reasons I like Russian writers. Enjoyed the video!

    • @bookstalgic
      @bookstalgic 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks, Jacob! I hope you enjoy your books this month. I had to look up"Being and Nothingness" by Sartre as I hadn't heard of it before (and yes, lovely title, lol) and it sounds interesting. I got into existentialism a little bit in my early 20s. I can't remember what I read at the time, but I found it all very fascinating. Life got busy and I guess I must've moved on from it, but that was the first time I started to "think outside the box" of my Catholic upbringing. I've never read any of James Baldwin's works, but every time I've heard someone on Booktube talk about him, it's always in positive terms in regards to his writing. In regards to "rawness of the writing", a fellow Booktuber I watched recently talked about that little window in the 90s when authors seemed to feel safer being honest and raw with their writing, more so than they do today due to the lack of the internet being what it now is. Nowadays with social media and instant sharing of thoughts across a large audience, writers may feel less safe to be raw in fear of being canceled if they rely on their works to pay the bills. Definitely interesting to think about. Russian lit is absolutely something I want to dive into some day. There are a bunch of books on my Greatest Books of all Time list (the obvious Russian classics ones of course), but there are a few others I would like read too. Hope you have a great week ahead!

    • @scoutdarpy4465
      @scoutdarpy4465 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@bookstalgic Existentialism is really important to me, especially as I head into my late twenties. It invites me into a whole world of possibilities and things that contend with the soul; it's a steadily beating drum that renders our lives clear, as well as my own feelings on certain subjects, or even the lack thereof. Writers definitely have to be careful with what they write about: there's a standard for the "acceptable" and "most needed" topics for one to delve into. Not only delve into them, but how they delve into them (which often times carries an agenda). I'm always hesitant with contemporary writers, because I question the intentions behind their books: who or what exactly are you trying to serve or convince?

      Thanks, Ven! Yeah, there's no real reason why I keep pushing Frankenstein away for another month either. I think I sometimes do that because I'm waiting for the perfect time to read it because I think I'm really going to enjoy it. Well, I'm going to start it as soon as I'm done with my ebook I'm reading now so I will definite get to it this month! I really enjoyed The Hobbit movies, but I had never read the books so I didn't have anything to compare it too. At the very least, at least it will help me visualize some of the characters and settings. I hope you have a great October of reading!

    I love the laid-back approach to TBR/possibilities lists. No need to add pressure to a hobby. That Autumn anthology sounds wonderful--looking forward to hearing your thoughts. I'm not yet in much of a spooky season mood (it's still HOT here in Texas), so I hope to read Bowling Alone by Robert Putnam, and the Library of America collections of Loren Eiseley and Wendell Berry. Always a pleasure to hear you talk about books and things! Take care.

      Hi Ellis! It's so nice to hear from you, and thank you for your sweet comment, as always! I have a really good friend that lives in San Antonio and she always complains about the heat down there this time of year. She came to visit us one year in October to see the fall foliage and it was so cute to see how in awe she was and how happy she was to be wearing a sweater outside! Bowling Alone sounds really interesting. The decline of community is not something that usually pops into my thoughts, but it's so true and I'm sure very thought-provoking to read about his thoughts on why this would've happened. I hope you enjoy it as well as your Library of America collections. Thanks again for visiting and saying hi. :)

    Hey Farrah! We’re also guilty of not keeping to or finishing our monthly tbr, so definitely no judging! Honestly I usually forget what I said I was gonna try to read by the end of the month 😅Mood Readers unite!! 😂😂 I tried Frankenstein and had to DNF. It was making me angry. You do better than me with classics, so hopefully you get through it enjoy it! Haunting of Hill House sounds awesome! I put a hold on it over the summer and still waiting. I can’t say horror to save my life 😂 I need to do an Anne Rice read through again! I’ve been meaning to get to it since Michael K Vaughn mentioned it. It’s what got me started on vampires as a teen. I don’t think grandma realized what she was letting me read 😅 Good luck with Discovery of Witches! I had some not nice thoughts and gave Ven more fodder to tease me 😂 JD Robb wooo! In Death is a simple but fun series. Hobbit!!! Yaaaay! I love it! The whole reason I want to go to New Zealand is LOTR. Love the nails and sneaky kitty slinking through the background! Hope you enjoy spooky season and whichever books you get to! That’s quite the big pile there! Happy reading! 😊

      Thanks, Kat! I think from now on, I'll just make TBRs every so often, when the mood strikes and that will give me a chance to catch up with the ones I already made months before, haha. Sorry to hear you didn't like Frankenstein, I know it's a mixed bag or whether people liked it or not. Yeah, "horror" looks like we should be saying "horr - orr" but it doesn't naturally roll off the tongue like that! Lol, your grandma gave you Interview with a Vampire? That's amazing. I'm sure I read it way to young too, but I remember loving it! Of course, the Brad Pitt/Tom Cruise/Christian Bale adaptation was very easy on the eyes too, when it came out! :D I would also love to go to New Zealand to have a tour of filming locations for LOTR. I'm so excited to get to that one! Thanks so much for watching and your wonderful comments, as always :) Hope you have a great weekend!

      I agree, it's fun to finally read these spooky classics we've always known about but never read. Last year I read Bram Stoker's Dracula and it was fun to finally be able to chat with others about what the book was actually about! I'm glad to hear you liked The Night Circus! I started it and was intrigued, so I'm looking forward to finishing it this fall sometime. :)

    I loved Frankenstein and The Haunting of Hill House, I remember The Vampire Lestat being better than the first book but liking both. The Hobbit feels like Christmas to me, I love reading Tolkien around then. I'm diving deep into Victober because I love it, and I will try and fit one horror in at the end.

      I’m glad you enjoyed some of those books on my TBR! I know what you mean about Victober and I wish it was in a different month so I could fully enjoy it. I decided to try Vanity Fair as Mark from Booktime with Elvis is doing a group read of that, but it will probably take me a few months going at the rate I get through books 😂. I can see myself having similar vibes with The LOTR series over fall and Christmas too. So cozy and nostalgic. Hope you have a great upcoming weekend of reading 🍁✨📚

    Hi Farrah! I read The Hobbit but it wasn’t for me as for Deborah Harkness… 😅 I’m trying to read victorian literature in October. It was a last minute addition, haha! I’m sure I won’t finish it this month so it will likely be an ongoing read. I hope you enjoy your Victober choices! Hi Farrah. Lovely video. Your seasonal anthologies sound wonderful! I love that you are reading Frankenstein this month. That is a novel that I used to teach every year. It's not what people expect it to be, but it's such an important novel. I've been reading Agatha Christie too, though I am reading Miss Marple books right now. I've liked the "..In Death" series too. The edition of The Hobbit that you held up is the same edition that I have from my box set from the early 1970's. A classic edition! So I'm reading some Victober selections this month and also some spooky books. I'm also reading Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake for MJ's "Im with the Banned" Book Club. And I'm reading William Kent Krueger's The River We Remember for my book club. Busy month. I hope you're doing well. 😊

      Thanks, Pat! How fun that you used to teach about Frankenstein in your classics! I think I will really like it. I love that 70s edition of The Hobbit. I found it in a thrift store and also found The Return of the King in the same edition. I’m on the hunt for the other two as well. I’m looking forward to the Marple books too, by Agatha Christie. I know I’m going to LOVE her 😊. I hope you enjoy Oryx and Crake. I remember reading that book about 10 yrs ago and I can’t fully remember the plot, but I remember being hooked. Thank you for the reminder as I wanted to follow along on Fable to see what everyone’s thoughts were! Hope you have a great reading month, Pat ❤.

      @@bookstalgic hi Farrah. I do love Miss Marple. I’ve started Oryx and Crake and started commenting in Fable. It’s a really powerful and disturbing book. I’m definitely hooked. I don’t think any books should be banned; but I don’t think this a book-or a trilogy-for kids. It’s a very adult story. Lots of really creepy, disturbing stuff in it.

I started "The road" by Cormac McCarthy and will follow with "Lasher" by Anne Rice. It's the 2nd book in the trilogy on witches. I read the first one years ago. And I added "The Penguin Book of the Undead". 🤞 Have fun and enjoy the colours 🍁🍂
