    I love your snowy woods! So beautiful and peaceful. "The Bluest Eye" is truly incredible - I think it's the BEST of my reads so far this year! Great video - thanks for sharing the beauty around you.

      Thanks, Reney! The Bluest Eye is definitely one the best books I've ever read. I'm excited to read more by her in the future. Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoy the snowy woods as much as I do. :)

    im so digging deep in your nature shots
    so peaceful
    beloved by toni morrison is one of the upcoming reading list books
    melodic inflections, beautiful turn o'phrase
    fledgling!!! wish there was a sequel!

      Thanks Groz!! I'm glad you like the nature stuff. I just love it, haha.
      I hope you enjoy Beloved! It's on my "Greatest 100 books fo all time list" so I'll get to it eventually. I am guessing most of her books are probably amazing. I finished Fledgling and it was pretty good! I couldn't really get the image of her as a young girl out of my mind for some of the "scenes", but if I looked past that, it had very interesting themes and great world-building!

      Thanks, Heather! I’ve had it on my shelf for at least 2 yrs and I was so glad I finally gave it a try! It was so good (if you couldn’t tell 😂). I hope you enjoy it if you give it a try! 😊

    I cannot read that many books all at once. I don't know how you do it. As always, I loved the nature images, the sound of the water and baby farm animals. I want to try to read some Toni Morrison this year thanks to you, maybe next summer. Have a great reading week! 🦌

      Thanks Martine! I was blown away by how much I liked Toni Morrison’s writing. I hope her other books are just as good. I really don’t like having that many books going either. It was too much and made me feel a little stressed. Going forward, I’m going to try to just have 1 audio, 1 physical and 1 ebook and even that might be too much! 😆 Hope you have a wonderful week as well!

    The housekeeper! Mrs. Danvers! She gave me the major heebie-jeebies when we read the book in school and then watched the movie - in total darkness. Nightmares for days. You're in for a treat with Toni Morrison! I'll try to remember to tag you in the Cleopatra review once I post it to see if your experience tracks at all. Thanks for the mention. You're the sweetest! Stay warm out there!

      Thank you! I just finished Rebecca and really enjoyed it. The ending was A MOOD for sure 🙃. I’m going to have to check out the movie versions as well! Glad to hear there is more to look forward to with Toni Morrison. I’m saving Beloved for last! I’ll definitely look out for your Cleo review. Now that I’m done with Rebecca, I can give Cleopatra my full attention and can hopefully get through it soon. Thanks for watching! 😊

    As always you taking us around nature is so calming and lovely. You are reading so many things I need to! Eve, Bluest Eye, Eloquent Rage, and even Rebecca (which I have a folio society edition of, but haven't read!) Are all on my radar, and sounds like they we're hits.

      Thanks, Pat! I’m so glad I finally gave Toni Morrison a try and I’m excited to read some of her other books as well. I was truly moved by The Bluest Eye and I can’t believe that was her first book. I read that she had a lot of criticisms about her writing in that one, but I thought it was great. Thank you for letting me know that she’s one of your favorite novelists. :)📚✨

    Stunning!! Is all this land your property? And I agree - Toni Morrison is incredible! I also plan to read all her works. So far, I have read The Bluest Eye and Beloved. Both are devastating but Beloved was especially brutal. I have to take a pause until I have a chance to purchase more of her books. Happy reading!

      Thanks, Christina! The land actually all belongs to my aunt and uncle who own the farm we live on, but I am thankful that I can roam around on it whenever I want! :). Wow, Beloved is on my list as well, but I know I need to be in the right mind space before I pick that one up. Glad you enjoyed her books as well! :) Hope you have a wonderful reading month!

    Brene Brown is a social worker. She is a researcher and studies human resiliency and vulnerability. Atlas of the Heart is a reference tool. It's a great coffee table book. My copy is on display in my living room. I read it as I would a map/atlas. It isn't surprising that people say it reads like a dictionary because it is a reference tool. Good call on dnfing it. I love your vlogs. I agree that The Bluest Eye is a beautiful story and an important book. I got a similar sense when I read Cleopatra. I found history on women's health so interesting through her biography. On another note, Spring is happening whether I'm ready for it or not. Enjoy!

      Thanks, Mariandrea! I saw Atlas of the Heart in Target and flipped through it and what a difference it is in physical form. I'll be on the lookout for the book at the library to give it another try. I'm glad you enjoyed both The Bluest Eye and Cleopatra. I'm starting to get back into Cleo now and learning so much and it's so interesting. It was very warm here yesterday and well and I sat outside on the porch and read during my break. Maybe I am ready for winter to be over! :)

    Great stuff! Just finished Bluest Eye myself, third time through for me. Morrison is amazing. Sula is up next for me. Just picked up Eve and will get to it after I get through my required reads for the booktube prize. Excited about it. Oh, and I have that coat, in Steve size. Octavia Butler! 👍👍👍 we got some seriously overlapping tastes!

Mine’s also on hold as well until I get through Cleopatra. Fledgling wasn’t as good as Kindred was for me, but I’m excited to try more of Octavia Butler! Hope you and Seamus are having a great week of reading and enjoying your walks :)

    I don’t know about upstate NY but we didn’t get much snow in Quebec City this year. The landscape has looked like first week of April all winter long here! 🙃 Reading outside in winter is something I’ve never done! It’s a great idea. 😍

    • @bookstalgic
      @bookstalgic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We definitely got less snow than we usually do! Now everything has melted and it’s all brown and gray. I could take another snow storm, otherwise I can’t wait to see some flowers and color back in the landscape! I really enjoy reading outside if I can, but sometimes I get a little too distracted by what’s around me 😊

    I have only read Beloved by Toni Morrison which was amazing but heartbreaking. I loved it and Morrison’s writing. It still haunts me. The Bluest Eye sounds just as heartbreaking. 😢
    I’m looking forward to reading Atlas of the Heart. It looks like a book I’ll need to take my time with. I want to read Rebecca. The only Daphne du Maurier book I’ve read is Jamaica Inn which I enjoyed. Nice vlog! 😊

      I really hope you enjoy and savor Atlas of the Heart! I saw a copy of it at Target and was flipping through it. I'd like to give it another try as a physical book as I think it will be much more enjoyable that way, so I'll keep my eyes open for it at my library!
      I just finished Rebecca this morning and I really ended up liking it a lot. I definitely want to try more from her!

    I've never been much of an emotional reader, nor do I read to supply me with some sorta predetermined empathy. So books like The Bluest Eye don't really affect me. To be honest, lol, I'm starting to become disillusioned with books. I find the traction I once had is beginning to run raw. Of course, I will keep reading and writing; but, I dunno. This is why I stick to only what I want to read and not those who try to shove their politically charged books down my throat.
    Geeze, I really try not to rant; but I can't seem to help myself, lol.
    Enjoyed the video!

    • @bookstalgic
      @bookstalgic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Yeah, I think we all have different levels of emotion when we read or think about other situations not like our own. Obviously, I’m on the highly empathetic side and have always been like this. One of my daughters is just like me, and the other one does not get as easily affected by it all. It used to shock me when I would come across people that weren’t as highly emotional as I am, but the older I get, the more I realize what a spectrum the experience of emotion can vary from person to person.
      Glad you know what books work for you and what books don’t 👍.

    • @scoutdarpy4465
      @scoutdarpy4465 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bookstalgic Yeah, I agree. Definitely a spectrum. And it's weird for me, my emotions: I'm a very idealistic temperament, so I fully invest myself in my ideals (usually abstract concepts, albeit poetry), and a lot of times I feel suffocated by it, like I reach a hand out for all humanity's suffering - which, I usually can't grab a hold, can't seem to estimate it properly. I dunno. Maybe I'm wearing myself too thin. My empathy is the empathy I choose and need. I honestly wouldn't label it, haha. Anyways, not to go on a soap box...

"Booksalgic" and the channel creator that has the ability to celebrate differences by NOT even speaking like we are different. Nor sucking up to some culture. What a wonderful find. You replace "fear generators", with the "love of curiosity". I subscribed at marker 0:58. Great speaking voice and soothing "angelic" like delivery. I want to know,. Please...how long does it take for you to completely read a book.

      @bookstalgic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wow, I’m so humbled by your comment, thank you very much! That really made my day today 😊.
      Regarding your question about how long it takes me to read a book, it varies by how long it is and if it’s audio vs digital or physical. I can usually get through 1 audiobook per week, but physical and ebooks usually take me about 2 weeks. I work full time and have kids in sports, so I try to do some reading in the morning when I wake up (my favorite time to read) and a little at night if I can, (but often I start to fall asleep when reading at night)! Thank you again for your very kind comment, I truly appreciate it. 😊

      @@bookstalgic I'm a reader of sorts, yes. But not enough to own any coveted title, as such. I ask people about reading because I am amazed how quickly some get through a book. I was so proud when I committed myself to read my first "non-technical" book, years ago. It was called, "The Help". I felt a sense of accomplishment when I reached the middle; but about that same time the movie version pops out of nowhere. Needless to say, I, like a reformed fox working for “Door Dash”, entrusted to deliver its first hen; ALIVE!!...I fell off the wagon, I stopped & settled for the movie to fill me in on the rest. Needless to say, I’m not proud of my actions & would be adding insult to injury if I yield to feeling deeply compelled to offer you a “face-saving” lie, that I was currently in a readers recovery step program.
