Life Lately at My Historic Bungalow 🏡⌛️
In this video I share my new to me treadle sewing machine that was made between 1904-1908, I share a couple books I've read recently and make a recipe from the 1960's.
Here's the recipe if you are interested in trying it:
Pale Moon Lemon Pie
For the crust you will need:
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
1 cup shortening
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 egg
5 tablespoons water
Mix dry ingredients together, and cut in shortening. Add vinegar and egg to water, mix and add to the dry ingredients. Roll out and place on pie pan. Bake at 325 for 15 min. This makes two pie crusts.
For the Filling:
1 cup sugar
1 3/4 cups water
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 cup cornstarch
3 tablespoons cold water
3 egg yolks
2 tablespoons milk
6 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
Combine sugar, butter and water. Heat until sugar dissolves. Add cornstarch mixed with cold water. Cook slowly about 8 minutes. Slowly add egg yolks beaten with milk and bring to a boil. Add lemon juice and peel and pour into cooled pie crust.
Meringue:
3 egg whites
6 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Beat egg whites stiff but not dry. Add sugar gradually. Add lemon juice. Spread over pie, sealing the edges. Bake at 325 for 15 to 20 minutes.

Thank you ☺️ Aren’t those sewing machines wonderful? They were built to last and even though they don’t still make them, the antique ones work really well still! I do believe that is technically Lemon Meringue Pie. They just gave it a groovy name 😆 The flowers are roses. Although I’m not sure the specific variety of rose.

Interesting story about Lana Turner. Have only seen" Imitation Of Life" and "Postman Always Rings Twice" because my mom liked Lana Turner and John Garfield. They were both good films. It might be an interesting story of how your dad knew the author of the book. Nice that you still have flowers blooming. I have lots of leaves. The illustrations in the little books are very cute. I think I would have them set out and opened to each new season and displayed. I like to do that with my books. You have gotten experienced already on your sewing machine as you certainly certainly knocked it out of the ballpark with your new dress. That look quite complicated to make. Fun finding your video pop up in my feed to enjoy during my late night owl hours. Now, if you have another slice of pie???? ;0)

      @LostinTimeWithKatie 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ooo they both are good films! Yes, I keep forgetting to ask him more about that. I must do so! It seems like there are always at least some roses blooming around here. That particular bush with the pink ones have been the most prolific the whole time I’ve been here. Well leaves sure sound like fall! Aren’t they adorable? That’s a wonderful idea. I do stand these up to display them in one of my bookshelves usually, but just the covers. I should change it up and open them to different illustrations. If I could send you a piece I would 🥧

This is odd. I left a comment last night but it doesn't seem to have appeared. Anyway, enjoyed the visit to the cottage. I found seven of the Judy Bolton mysteries at Ebay for about $25 dollars a while back and have enjoyed reading those too. Your sunflowers were amazing and even after finishing their bloom they can go on to become food for the wildlife with seeds to regrow and be beautiful next year. And if by some reason you don't regrow them again you will have the reminder in the pretty embroidery you have done. While thrifting this week I found a table runner with vintage hand embroidery of flowers on it that I want to use in spring. Like your videos and have enjoyed your Instagram pages. Have a blessed end of summer.

Hi, Katie, I enjoy listening to your book reviews because you cover a wide range of topics, not just the latest tales whose reviews are easy to come by. As a child I loved the children's classics, fairy tales and ghost stories. I read many of the classics, such as Jane Austin's novels in school, but was never as enamored of them as many of the girls who became huge fans. After rereading some in the more recent past I have gotten more of an appreciation for the stories. As I got older I lost interest in fiction and read mostly non fiction as my father had large collections of books on WWII and the Civil War, ect. But today I am again getting back into reading fiction just to enjoy getting lost in a good story that can take you out of the moment for a while. I have found the Judy Bolton books through you and have been reading some of those mysteries and they are decent tales, easy to read books, and I like being transported back to the earlier time of these teens. (Haven't gotten into the stories as she ages) The "Cat Who Saved Books" sounds like a good read. Hope that you will continue your book reviews as time permits and let us know what you are reading. Love seeing the cottage, too. It is super cute!

Hi Linda! Thanks for sharing your reading journey. That’s interesting that you got into non fiction for awhile. That’s great that you are getting into fiction again too. It truly is a wonderful thing to get lost in a good story for awhile. That makes me so happy that you have been reading Judy Bolton because of me! I never hear anyone talk about those books and am afraid they are being lost to time. I really hope I am able to keep making videos as I missed it. They will always include some book reviews and possibly recommendations of books I’ve read in the past as well ☺️

I was thinking of rereading the series, and I’m glad I found this video! I really appreciate how you talk about the problematic aspects of the pioneers that are really often glorified or glossed over!

I enjoyed this so much. I love all of your activities, being also drawn to living a simple old-fashioned life. Your hand sewn gingham home furnishings are adorable. I also watched this thinking I have a lot to learn from you in regard to cinematography, Beautifully filmed x
