Released as the third and final single on 24 November 1978 from their debut studio album Outlandos d'Amour (1978). "What we invented was this thing of going back and forth between thrash punk and reggae. That was the little niche we created for ourselves." -  Sting (2000)
The Police first recorded it on the very first day of the Outlandos d'Amour recording sessions on January 15, 1978, but subsequently conducted several re-recordings. Single and LP versions differ, as does - obviously I would say with The Police - the way they played it live. I especially like the slower part in the last part of the song, which I extended quite a bit in this remix, among other changes. I hope it will be a worthy new version that can stand next to the existing ones. The video comes from different sources, I tried to make a tailor-made suit for the remix, with those notable playback performances. All the footage used is on the internet, but I've reworked it a bit. Enjoy it! As always, I'm curious what you think. So please let me know!
And last but not least, ultimately this is all for a greater purpose. If our protagonist(s) ever listen to this: come on guys, especially Sting, the years are seriously starting to count, so surprise the world, break the myth of The Police as a closed legend, visit your old friends, conquer the demons of the past, and do what many people worldwide don't expect, but are really waiting for: rearrange a few of each other's solo songs, give each other some space and it's done: THAT DAMNED SIXTH POLICE ALBUM!
