Great advice, thank you, Kevin! Focusing on the big ticket items and personal health is so important.
I have another bigger channel and I get brands offering me free stuff to demonstrate on my channel but I have refused them all so far as it's simply not worth the time I have to put in to make the video, to get a free $100 product I didn't really want in the first place.
Feel you on this
Great video! With awesome advice, that I truly think comes from a place of care and experience. About financial freedom, I understand it as a privilege that you give yourself, with how you set yourself up of course. I think media and many proponents describe obtaining "financial freedom" as basically what you mentioned; the ability to have a lifestyle of spending well beyond your means (they don't say that ofc, they just say that you'll have the ability to "achieve your dreams" and "do anything you want." I'm super duper interested in a video explaining how you've allocated and grown what you've earned. P.S. for any of those looking for advice, I highly recommend getting started on a Roth IRA as quickly as possible. Super easy to start up, and pretty easy to upkeep (in my experience)
Absolutely happy to do something like that as a video in future!
I'm glad I clicked this video
Me too
Charlie’s almanac changed my perspective on the world and what it meant to be ‘successful’. Another great resource that Charlie inspired, that I think you would genuinely benefit from, is Farnham St website (Shane Parrish and any of his books, but especially ‘clear thinking’) and his podcast ‘The Knowledge Project’. Edit: that optometrist story is totally me too 😂
I’ve been watching the epic channels for years and this just happened to pop up in my feed. I am a qualified financial adviser in AUS and do often lay awake at night thinking about a particular clients situation, however I was also taught by my father that ‘nobody else will look out for you’. There is an amount of ownership over all parts of our lives, let alone our finances, that I feel isn’t being instilled or demonstrated by people in modern society. I’m interested to hear your point of view on finance and other things as you progress with this channel. Excited to have found this channel and to see where it goes. Cudos to you for choosing to give back in this way now that you are at this point in your journey.
Appreciate the comment!!
I'm glad I stumbled onto this video. Good stuff. Thanks, Kevin!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This made me smile so much. I’ve really been focused on living financially smarter since the garden produced so much i feel food secure … and it feels like my favorite TH-camrs and podcasts are all overlapping to 2025 being the year of financial freedom. It’s encouraging!
Love to hear this
VERY good 👍🏻 🙌🏻🙌🏻💯 Edit: u clearly like educating on growth in ALL things🤘🏻
At 54, I think it's a great side hustle to grow into a full business.
Great advice, this is my first time seeing your channel probably because I love to watch financial TH-cam.
Welcome aboard!
Great stuff man. Thank you for sharing
I need to charge more. I know I can charge more because there are limited people like me who do what I do.
If people pay it when you increase rates, then you're right!
The government takes too much. Its not that im bad with. I do what I can. But they take more and more with no representation.
but my gardening problem is the cause of my debt. yikes, just spent $100 on seeds from johnny's.
I know the feeling
Great points! Not bad with money but I’m deff on a fun\interesting/unique path this last year where I ditched the traditional lifestyle of having a stable home and I’m pet/house sitting full time for a place to stay and cutting off a lot of bills like rent/utilities etc and if I can just get the income streams up the amount I can save will be so insanely significant. Was also a nice reminder of how important our health esp as we get older, 37 and starting to feel the effects of not taking the best care of myself. thanks Kevin 😁
Love to hear it - best of luck w/ this plan!
Great advice, especially about taking care of your health. Health=wealth. Ive been following Dave Ramsey Solutions for years. I'll have my home paid off just as I begin my 40s, so absolutely zero debt, and thats with just 1 household income. The steps are pretty much what youve laid out: budgeting, living under your means, no credit cards, invest, etc Its all about financial peace, peace of mind, its all worth it.
Wow - congrats!
I know people who make 3-4 times more than me and are lifestyle poor and live paycheck to paycheck worrying about bills. It’s unbelievable how people want to impress and promote brands for free. I invest 60-70% of my income and take yearly vacations with no hit to my finances.
Thanks for sharing Kevin for these nuggets!!! Happy New Year 2025!!! Can't wait to see your growth!!!
Happy new year!
I enjoyed witnessing the other side of you. Thank you for sharing the insight .
Awesomeness 🎉thank u for sharing your tips with us blessings 🙌 🙏 to you nd your family have a great holiday 🎉
Always a pleasant surprise when you post on this channel. Going into year 5 of my business (crazy) Hope all has been well! would be cool to hear a business update on your ventures
Will do soon!
Thanks Kevin , I’m so happy for your success. I’v😊
Love the final point! Having money and financial security is supposed to be about having access to the life you want not the end goal you obsess over
💯💯💯
🙏
Hey Kevin, long-time subscriber to Epic Gardening. First off, if 36 is old, what's 51? 😂 Appreciate the content you're sharing on this channel. As a creator, I've learned from all of your content. I'm on the pro-side of the hort business, but felt a need to share what I've learned for the past 30+ years in this industry, so started my channel a little less than 2 years ago. Happy to say you've been a part of this journey. Take care, my friend.
Good luck w/ the channel!
Awesome video! As someone with a lot of student loans and a strict budget, your advice was super helpful on how to maximize the big picture. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead!
Your advice here is so down to earth. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for this.... COMPLETELY agree with you on the point about debt..
Im sad to see your changing Botanical interests so much. Like a Taco Bell ad, you dont need to go back to the 90s to sell more seeds. 😢
We're not changing all that much. The 90s idea is just a fun way to package varieties together our hort team put together. It's the same varieties we've always had, same packets, etc.
6:30 I find that most people DO very much care that you are doing well and want to help, but everyone is handling their own concerns and money and cannot be expected to carry anyone else who is capable of making their own living. We all work together to survive, thats what makes us human, AND You have a responsibility to provide for yourself first so that you don't hurt others. Its important to not become mired in the scarcity mindset where other people are the enemy.
Right, that's what I mean, no one cares AS MUCH as you do
One caveat about credit cards: use them like a debit card. Don't use your bank card for ANYTHING. Then pay that credit card off at the end of the month. This will help raise your credit score and, if you wisely chose a card that gives you fly miles or cash back or some such bonus, you will rack those benefits up as well 😊 yes, it requires some discipline to only spend what your budget is but isn't that the same as your debit card? It has a limit to whatever money is in your account. Treat your credit card like that as well!
Yup, best way to do it right there
I agree. I love the idea, I learned relational equity and knowing your "obvious greater value". This has allowed me to get every job I have asked for, and I ask for the job I want. I do not wait around to get it. Excellent Kevin.
Love it
I'm pretty good with money, but Eric (Kevin) is one of my TH-cam faves so of course I watched. Kids-WATCH, LISTEN AND TAKE NOTES! And parents of those kids, pass this info along! This video has an Epic ROI 😉
Theyll raise it a dollar or two for all works on a minimum wage level things like that are also not 10x your paycheck which is what you need crypto does that when your good - willy 0
Gotta get good but since investment got good they wont lower the prices for workers or raise the paychecks of workers ever again you need investment - willy 0
Bur you need money like a disability check or workers check to get started and keep going usually but you know 10x my paycheck is 10x my paycheck working overtime don't do that Investment does - willy 00
Crypto with no job makes more then most jobs thats not including all of financial- willy 0
They say your bad or good with money its healthy to be good with miney but you don't even have it unless your investing people who work and educate on investing are able to own homes mortgage free thats right - willy 0
Sorry you don't work for money as much as you invest nowadays there's robots for literally everything entire restaurants warehouses factories run by 1-4 people usually 1 all of it is robots there's even a drywalling robot and there's cleaning robots were stepping into a time where we have mechanical minons do the work for us even sex robots for when women don't put out - willy 0
The earning issue has been a downfall for me a lot over the years. I build skills and wind up with a 25 cent an hour raise or something.
You are literally my favorite youtuber!! From gardening to an array of advice!! Greatly appreciated and I wish you the best if luck in the new year!!!
Your points are so incredibly accurate, especially the point, if you don’t have excess money coming in, it’s difficult to save. A person can only cut so much out of their life, and when it comes to necessities, it diminishes even more. A person can only live on rice and beans for so long- it’s not sustainable. Nutritionally or mentally. It wears a person down to be scrimping and saving, cutting out every bit of enjoyment in life just to survive. The only way out of that situation is to make more money. It’s so incredibly unfortunate and many times, unhelpful, but true. I hope anyone who is or has been in that situation is able to start making more money.🖤 it’s such a difficult hole to climb out of 💔.
I think that this a great dive into how TH-cam works for a lot of people, thanks for putting it out there! When I learned how your business model works, and how the Epic Gardening is so much more than just a TH-cam channel, I was blown away! I think that you're doing a great job and thanks for sharing some of the 'behind the scenes' of it!
Appreciate that!
Very well laid out Sir! I look forward to seeing the investments advice you also give. It is amazing how much the way we think overlaps 👊🏻🌻👊🏻
I don't believe I'm bad with money - the problem is, everyone else trying to take the money I have! 😀
Accurate hahaha
Wonderful to hear your perspective. I’ve had to take a step back from gardening for a little bit because it became overwhelming. I realized I had to readjust my expectations of what I “should” be doing in the yard rather than what I can do for fun while learning and experimenting. Mental health is sooooo important and we often overlook it. Financially, I’m good. But it took a long time of trials and errors to understand what I could handle. And patience is an amazing thing to practice when we want everything now, now, now. Thank you for this video. It’s cool to hear about your life and experiences. Happy Holidays! 🎉
Always good to take a break!
Yes!
I’m hesitant to watch videos like this because money is such a low vibrational topic. People associate money with their energetic value which is infinite invaluable and all powerful and there is no amount of money that can match it. Only energy can be exchanged for energy. A good trade would be my hens eggs for some of your home grown tomatoes. Anyway. I’d love have an actual one on one chat because it’s so deep. Money equals slavery. AND what you shared here is exactly right. In essence I got from this video to be a generator and only take what you need. Create big live small. No one is deserving. Everyone is worthy.
Interesting perspective!!
Sound advice! I hope every teen I know watches this!❤
