Auxiliary Battery Bypass Mod for Jeep Wranglers & Gladiators: Don't Ignore Auto Stop/Start Warnings
มุมมอง 1.1K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this video I discuss and demonstrate the auxiliary battery bypass modification for Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators. The auxiliary battery primarily handles the Auto Stop/Start system and typically fails in a couple of years. The first warnings come from the Auto Stop/Start system. If you con't replace the battery or do this mod, it will eventually cause the main battery to fail as well.

If the Gladiator ever goes electric, I won't be getting another one. Or any other EV. Don't even want a hybrid. My V6 gas Pentastar (in my 2021 Gladiator) is fine -- no complaints whatsoever. -- BR
If it ain't broke!!
Ev over priced piece of crap. They can't be fixed, they catch on fire parked. They are all throw away vehicles. There is so much propaganda trying to convince people to be stupid enough to buy one of these pieces of garbage. It is absolutely at a stupid level.
Like it or not, EV's will be the future. But, even now most developed countries don't have the infrastructure to support them, and battery technology still has a way to go. A great step is PHEV's like my RAV4 Prime which is the best vehicle i've ever had. Hopefully Jeep can get their shit together with the 4xe.
They have tons of mistakes on their website all the time. To the point that it's almost useless.
Yep.. that's probably it.. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing.
Nobody wants that EV crap.
If they just worked out the bugs, it would be great. So sad.
It’s a hybrid! Not a full electric vehicle!
@@anibalbabilonia1867 It's actually a PHEV. There is an important distinction between all 3.
Never heard Willy's pronounced that way before.
That's the official pronunciation according to most jeep experts. But I slipped once in the middle of the video.
The bosses are Stellantis has done massive damage to Jeep. I love the Gladiator but I hate the way the company force feeding us things.
Agree.
Good video thanks for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching
Nice video! Thank you
Thank You !!
Great video. I did do the "soft" aux battery delete a couple weeks ago because my combined battery voltage was constantly around 14.5 which based on some research indicates that one of the batteries is going or gone bad. The ESS would work every once in awhile prior to the delete but the rest of the time it would say that the battery is charging and that ess is disabled. Hence why I did the delete. However after the delete I just get a "not available" message without any indication as to why. You did mention you had the same behavior and that disconnecting the main battery to get things reset fixed it. Did I understand that correctly? If so I may give it a try even though when I did the delete I noticed the aux battery negative cable had the bridge and was hooked up straight to the main battery negative terminal and the main battery negative cable was hooked up to thet bekdge so I basically removed the aux cable with the bridge snd out the main cable on the main netative terminal meaning i had both negatives disconnected. Did you do anything different to get the "unavailable" message to go away and the ESS to start working after the delete?
That's pretty much what I did. I removed the main negative battery cable while leaving the auxilary negative battery cable connected.. just to make sure I wasn't able to start.. It wouldn't start. Then I reconnected the main negative battery cable and tiewrapped the bridge cable off to the side When I did that, after a couple of restarts the ESS started working again. I then removed the hood prong to keep the ESS system from starting again (different video).
Detailed video!
Glad you liked it!
This is going to be a good series.
Thanks.. I really have to do a inspecting series.
I'd love to get my hands on a tj, that or a 2 door jk with the 3.6 and a six speed.
I actually ended up with a JL. Love it so far.
Best dad ❤
I try !!
Thanks for sharing this information. I just took my 2021 Jeep Gladiator to get inspected and they are needing to replace my Hood, Tailgate and all 4 doors due to this corrosion issue. I had no idea that this was covered under warranty! Caught it just in time! Thanks Again!
Good job!!! If you haven't already, please join the Facebook Group - facebook.com/groups/975754000356535 - lots of really great info
must be a bitch using your turn signal at every turn. just reach up hit button not that difficult😀
Are out there some wax, ceramic stuff, something to avoid rust,?
I think others have tried this without luck. Your best strategy for avoiding corrosion is to keep moisture off the hinges and seems. If you take it to a car wash, ensure it's totally dry paying close attention to hinges and seams in the door.
It’s also a lot of extra wear on your starter system. Also on piston/rings and cylinder to some degree… stopping and starting the oil flow.
I agree. Others say there is no impact. Negligible fuel savings so I say disable it.
Good video man...
Hey.. thanks so much !!
It has become Muscle memory for me the past almost 5 years. I dont even think about it.
Yeah.. when I had a GTR, when I started the first thing I did was put it into performance mode, and relax the suspension. I'll get there.

Pretty sure you can get it to show that. I'm going to get into (eventually) showing how to get such info. Just getting started.

Agree.
Not Wrangler rivals , but Wrangler wannabees. 😧
For sure. Competition is good.
Toyota must give up Hybrid car. These cars are JUNK.
Toyota makes the best hybrids.
The 4Xe is the closest I’ve come to getting a Jeep. I just don’t see the need to spend that much for a vehicle, so I’ve been sitting on the fence. These reports have made it an easy decision.
They have some amazing lease deals on these. You could always go for one of those, and then just turn it in after 3 years. Or, you could find a nice used JK. Good luck to you sir.
check that gray old man hair sticking out of his shirt.gross😵😵😵
interesting that the auto stop/start isn't run solely by the aux battery. isn't that why the message pops up? why would it still work on the main battery if the auto stop/start module is run off the aux battery? also kind of weird to have the two batteries connected.. they should have their own separate connections to the alternator. possibly a dual alternator setup bc the batteries would still be connected off the single alternator connection. bad design unless there's a relay that's thrown off a time delay after starting the engine so the aux battery can be charged without draining the main battery.
Yeah, interesting indeed. The Auto Stop/Start doesn't need the auxilary battery in order to run, but depending on the accesories you have running, it may work okay, but as you add more of a load it won't. If you don't want Auto Stop/Start to activate, you need to defeat it a different way. I'll be doing another video on some of the ways to disable it. I'll also be getting a Smart Stop/Start device, which is really a great device that remembers the last state of the auto stop/start system. I would have hoped the system would have been smart enough to know that if the aux battery isn't available, that it wouldn't start the auto stop/start system, but that's not the way it works unfortunately. It's well documented that doing the auxiliary battery bypass, doesn't disable auto stop/start.
I did this 5 years ago. It works. But it is highly recommended to disable the Start/Stop, the main battery wasn't designed for it.
Oh.. for sure. I mentioned that in the video. Thanks for sharing !!
Very nice video. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Uhhh don't you just disconnect the switch next to the hood switch.??? if not - a Z Automotive tazer will solve this issue....,
I'm not positive, but even if you don't use the stop/start system, the auxilary battery will eventually go bad. When that happens, it will then drain and eventually cause the main battery to fail. I did the bypass, and also removed the hood switch to disable start/stop. I'll eventually install the smart stop/start system.
Just disable stop/start...it's what we've been doing for years.
Yeah.. I think the battery monitoring system will still attempt to charge the battery.. and if/when the auxillary battery starts to go bad (which it will), it likely will still be problematic. I'm doing both.
Did it sell?
It did.
I still have my 2003 Rubicon. Trouble free after 21 years. New Jeeps are in and out of shop, A TJ most garage mechanics can fix, If Jeep is your thing then why are you going for comfort ? You should buy a car. I want to see newer Jeeps going strong after 21 years. My first Jeep was a 1975 CJ 5 then went on to a CJ 7, then a Scrambler to a 1989 Jeep Islander. TJ is the way to go 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing. Is it wrong to want comfort and new technology, but still get a durable off-road vehicle. I think not. I drove a bunch of TJ's. Good torque off the line, but had issues just merging on the freeway at 60mph. No thanks. Great off-roader, and a good solid engine. But, i'll take my problem child JL any day. I might get a TJ one day, just as a dedicated off-roader.
Thanks, What about the performance and the engine of the car? Are they the same? and why Jeep created two models?
They are just different generations. The JL is the newest, the JK is on generation older. The JL has lots more engine options, and an upgrade 8 speed transmission. In general, the JL performs better than the JK.
@ Thanks 🙏
I'm having similar issues with my Jeep Compass Trail Hawk. Im definitely going to try this because it's been acting funny since the start/stop unavailable indicator came up.
Good luck. Let us know how it works out. I think there is also a little smart sensor cable that sometimes goes out as well that can cause issues with the start/stop system.
This is a great video, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Escape 17b meets the criteria similar to casita, 2640 lbs, 3500 m@x weight.
Thanks for sharing. They don't seem to prioritize a large bedding area, even on their 21' trailers. Does look like a good quality trailer though.
ALWAYS stay UNDER your max weight. You need to consider WIND RESISTANCE as well as cargo/liquids.
Absolutely. I'm in the 80% rule camp, but others are as low as 70%. I saw a Wrangler Towing a houseboat on my way home from a camping trip today. So ridiculous.
Thanks for this vid. EXACLTY the info I've been looking for. My tow vehicle falls directly into this category. And your criteria for a camper/trailer also falls within my requirements.
Cool.. Which one are you leaning towards?
Why doesnt anyone ever review the trailmanor. The concept seems better than a a-frame. Any thoughts or experiences?
Yeah.. lots of moving parts on those. I've heard some bad things about quality.
Great review!
Thanks so much!!
Thanks, very informative.. I just bought a JL and I want to remove the backseat.. or atleast 2/3 of it
Cool. Good luck !!
As for total weight. If one carries some supplies INSIDE the bed vs inside the trailer does it matter?
For sure.. putting it in the bed of the truck affects vehicle payload vs in the trailer affects trailer weight
You have given me some good ideas, I am also in the trailer market and have a Honda ridgeline so towing constraints also, I use the 70% towing ratio so will looking around 3.,500lb tow ratio. Good point on the single beds, this is a must for me. Will take a look at some of you recommendations.
Cool. With 3,500 lbs i'd also look at the Airstream Basecamps as well as the Intech Sol's. Those are real nice.
This happened on the JKs too, but mine was black so I just wire brushed it off and put black paint over it.
Little bit of a different issue. Thanks for sharing.
Great video!!!!
Thanks so much.
Looks like I'm going to take a closer look at the Ford Bronco.
There are some issues with Jeep right now. Hope the brand can turn things around.
We have a tiny camper made by Rustic Trails. Something to potentially look at in regards to basic, light weight tiny campers. They are made in North Carolina. The family just sold the company which will be moved to Raleigh NC.
Thanks so much for sharing.
For me it's twin beds.
Yep. Really like the option for twin beds.
